Plasmolysis intensified during exposure to loading and PVS3 solutions, but decreased after unloading treatment. The proportion of intercellular spaces increased progressively throughout the cryopreservation protocol, culminating in root cortex disruption. Histochemical analyses revealed polysaccharides, proteins, and both lipidic and pectic substances in intercellular spaces. The vascular cylinder remained intact, ensuring the formation of new roots from the pericycle, showing that proliferative capacity of cryopreserved roots had not diminished.The stability of maize production is essential to global food security. Climate factors, such as temperature, precipitation, and solar radiation, directly affect the development of maize plants and hence the final grain yield. In this study, we investigated the spatial distributions and temporal trends of agro-climatic indices and severe weather indicators during the actual growing season for summer maize in Huanghuaihai region of China. The results showed that during the growing season, accumulated effective thermal time had significantly increased. From R3 to R6, accumulated effective thermal time, effective precipitation, and photosynthesis active radiation all showed an increasing trend, with the rate of 20.3 °C day, 1.1 mm, and 7.3 MJ m-2 per decade, respectively. From VE to R3, most of the study years showed a > 50% ratio of high-temperature days to subtotal days and > 7 consecutive days without available precipitation. During most of the study years, there were at least 0.5 thunderstorm events from V6 to VT stage in the locations of study; days with strong winds accounted for more than half the subtotal days during the V6-VT stage. And potential risk of lodging may be reduced by the decrease in days with strong wind. The results of this study could be used in optimizing agricultural management in summer maize production in order to take advantage of beneficial climatic elements while combating adverse climatic elements.PURPOSE Infrahepatic inferior vena cava (IIVC) clamping is beneficial for reducing the amount of bleeding during hepatic surgery, although the associated systemic circulatory deterioration is noticeable. The relationship between changes in the degree of IIVC clamping and postoperative renal function was retrospectively evaluated. METHODS A total of 59 patients who underwent elective hepatic surgery with surgical IIVC clamping in the two years were analyzed. In 2016, constant 80% clamping of the IIVC was performed (29 cases), and in 2017, hemodynamically adjusted IIVC clamping was performed (30 cases). Intraoperative parameters, including total blood loss and number of blood transfusions, were examined. The use of each vasoactive agents was analyzed. Renal function in the acute postoperative phase was evaluated using serum creatinine (Cr) and estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) values. RESULTS Comparison of the two groups showed that bolus doses of both ephedrine and phenylephrine were significantly higher in the 2016 group (P = 0.0221, 0.0017). Continuous doses of dopamine were significantly higher in the 2016 group, while those of noradrenaline were not. Postoperative serum Cr levels relative to baseline (%) were significantly higher in the 2016 group immediately after surgery and on postoperative day (POD) 1 (P = 0.0143, 0.0012). Postoperative eGFR relative to baseline (%) was significantly higher in the 2016 group immediately postoperatively and on PODs 1 and 2 (P = 0.0042, 0.0003, 0.0382). CONCLUSION Hemodynamically adjustable IIVC clamping might be superior to uniformly fixed clamping in preserving renal function without compromising the desired effect on hemostasis.The complete genome of a novel fungal virus, Puccinia striiformis narnavirus 1 (PsNV1), was sequenced and analyzed. The full-length cDNA sequence is 2340 bp in length with a GC content of 50.04%. PsNV1 contains a single open reading frame (ORF), which encodes a putative RNA-dependent RNA polymerase (RdRp) of 741 amino acids with a molecular mass of 81.8 kDa. RdRp phylogeny showed that PsNV1 grouped together with Fusarium poae narnavirus 1 (FpNV1) as a sister branch of narnaviruses, forming a distinct clade. The results of genome sequence comparisons and phylogenetic analysis indicate that PsNV1 is a new member in the genus Narnavirus. To our knowledge, this is the first report of a narnavirus genome sequence in the obligately parasitic fungus Puccinia striiformis f. sp. tritici.Silicon quantum dot (Si-QD) embedded in amorphous silicon oxide is used for p-i-n solar cell on quartz substrate as a photogeneration layer. To suppress diffusion of phosphorus from an n-type layer to a Si-QD photogeneration layer, niobium-doped titanium oxide (TiOxNb) is adopted. Hydrofluoric acid treatment is carried out for a part of the samples to remove the thermal oxide layer in the interface of TiOxNb/n-type layer. The thermal oxide acts as a photo-generated carrier-blocking layer. Solar cell properties using 10-nm-thick TiOxNb without the thermal oxide are better than those with the thermal oxide, notably short circuit current density is improved up to 1.89 mA/cm2. The photo-generated carrier occurs in Si-QD with quantum confinement effect. The 10-nm-thick TiOxNb with the thermal oxide layer effectively blocks P; however, P-diffusion is not completely suppressed by the 10-nm-thick TiOxNb without the thermal oxide. These results indicate that the total thickness of TiOxNb and thermal oxide layer influence the P-blocking effect. To achieve the further improvement of Si-QD solar cell, over 10-nm-thick TiOxNb is needed.BACKGROUND Antimicrobial therapy is a cornerstone in the treatment of infective endocarditis (IE). Typically, intravenous (i.v.) therapy is given for 6 weeks or longer, leading to prolonged hospital stays and high costs. Several trials evaluating the efficacy of partial oral therapy (POT) have been published. This article aimed to review and meta-analyze studies comparing i.v. therapy versus POT in non-critically ill patients suffering from IE. selleck chemicals llc METHODS A structured database search (based on PRISMA guidelines) regarding POT versus i.v. therapy in IE was conducted using PubMed/Medline. Primary endpoint was all-cause mortality and a secondary endpoint IE relapse. Risk rates were calculated using a random effects model (DerSimonian and Laird). Heterogeneity was assessed using the I2 statistics. RESULTS After screening 1848 studies at title and abstract levels, 4 studies were included. A total of 765 patients suffered from primary left-sided IE, whereas right-sided IE was observed in 72 patients. Mortality rates were lower in POT versus i.
