Leisure time physical activity associates with reduced risk of cardiovascular disease and all-cause mortality, while these relationships for occupational physical activity are unclear. We tested the hypothesis that leisure time physical activity associates with reduced major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) and all-cause mortality risk, while occupational physical activity associates with increased risks.

We studied 104046 women and men aged 20-100 years in the Copenhagen General Population Study with baseline measurements in 2003-2014 and median 10-year follow-up. Both leisure and occupational physical activity were based on self-report with four response categories. We observed 7913 (7.6%) MACE and 9846 (9.5%) deaths from all causes. Compared to low leisure time physical activity, multivariable adjusted (for lifestyle, health, living conditions, and socioeconomic factors) hazard ratios for MACE were 0.86 (0.78-0.96) for moderate, 0.77 (0.69-0.86) for high, and 0.85 (0.73-0.98) for very high activityisk, while higher occupational physical activity associates with increased risks, independent of each other.

Plant-based diets are gaining attention globally due to their environmental benefits and perceived health-protective role. A vegan diet may have cardiovascular benefits; however, evidence remains conflicting and insufficiently assessed.

We evaluated the utility of the vegan diet in cardiovascular disease (CVD) prevention.

We conducted a systematic review of studies evaluating the association between vegan diets and cardiovascular outcomes. We searched 5 databases (Ovid MEDLINE, EMBASE, Web of Science, Scopus, and OpenGrey) through 31 October 2020. Four investigators independently screened the full texts for inclusion, assessed quality, and extracted data from published reports.

Out of the 5729 identified records, 7 were included, comprising over 73,000 participants, of whom at least 7661 were vegans. Three studies, with at least 73,426 individuals (including at least 7380 vegans), examined risks of primary cardiovascular events (total CVD, coronary heart disease, acute myocardial infarction, total strowever, more high-quality research on this topic is needed. Recent technological advances have led to a rising movement towards advancing the science of human-milk biology. Herein, we describe the rationale and critical need for unveiling the multifunctionality of the various nutritional, nonnutritional, immune, and biological signaling pathways of the components in human milk that drive system development and maturation, growth, and development in the very early postnatal period of life. We provide a vision and conceptual framework for a research strategy and agenda to change the field of human-milk biology with implications for global policy, innovation, and interventions.

Several studies have recently highlighted important roles for adipose tissue in cancer. However, few have examined adipose tissue cholesterol, and no study has been performed in breast adipose tissue associated with breast tumors.

The present work was designed to determine if breast adipose tissue cholesterol from the tumor-surrounding area is associated with breast cancer aggressiveness.

Between 2009 and 2011, 215 breast adipose tissue samples were collected at the Tours University Hospital (France) during surgery of women (aged 28-89 y) with invasive breast cancer. Associations of free cholesterol (FC), esterified cholesterol (EC), and total cholesterol (TC) amounts with clinical variables (age, BMI, and treated or untreated hypercholesterolemia) and tumor aggressiveness parameters [phenotype, grade, presence of inflammatory breast cancer (IBC), and multifocality] were tested using Student's t test and after ANOVA.

The predominant form of cholesterol in adipose tissue was FC, and 50% of patients hade in breast adipose tissue cholesterol content may contribute to breast cancer aggressiveness (HER2 phenotype, multifocality of triple-negative tumors, and IBC).

This study is the first of this magnitude that analyzes cholesterol concentrations in adipose tissue from female breast cancer patients. An increase in breast adipose tissue cholesterol content may contribute to breast cancer aggressiveness (HER2 phenotype, multifocality of triple-negative tumors, and IBC).
