g up the treatment capacity are key to achieving better outcomes.

The COVID-19 pandemic has changed health systems across the world, both in general hospitals and in oncology institutes or centres. For cancer specialists, particularly breast cancer (BC), the COVID-19 pandemic represents a combination of challenges since the hospital resources and staff have become more limited; this has obliged oncology specialists to seek a consensus and establish which patients with BC require more urgent attention and which patients can wait until there is a better control of this pandemic. The health system in Latin America has some special characteristics; in some of the countries, there are shortages which limit access to several specialities (surgery, clinical oncology and radiotherapy) in some regions.

After a systematic review of the most recent literature regarding the management of BC during the COVID-19 pandemic, the main objective is to understand the position of the different Latin American Societies of Mastology in terms of available alternatives for the treatment of BC.

their responses and recommendations for the treatment of BC during the COVID-19 pandemic. This article advances thinking on the political ecology of food and agriculture by reviewing research on milk and dairy. As increasingly contested foods, milk and dairy provide a window onto inter-linked social and environmental crises and attempts to solve them through adjustments to food production and consumption. We critically assess three trajectories of change (more milk, better milk, and less milk) that are representative of broader efforts to fix social-environmental crises through food. Arguing that these efforts eschew systemic change, we discuss how ideas from food studies, agrarian political economy, and development studies can be united in a potentially transformative research agenda on the political ecology of milk (as well as other foods). We reflect on how concepts of justice, power, and care might inform a political ecology of food and agriculture that can help envision and enact more democratic food futures. In this paper we make two contributions to the analysis of brain oscillations with CFC techniques. First, we introduce a new bispectral CFC measure which is selective to couplings between three or more brain sources. This measure can be derived from ordinary cross-bispectra by performing a total-antisymmetrization operation on them. Significant coupling values can then be attributed to at least three interacting signals. This selectivity to the number of sources can be helpful to test hypotheses on the number of brain sources involved in the generation of commonly observed brain oscillations, such as the alpha rhythm. In a second step we present the correct empirical distribution for the coupling measure, which is necessary to properly assess the significance of coupling results. More importantly however, this corrected statistic is not limited to our particular measure, but holds for all complex-valued coupling estimators. We illustrate how the very common misassumption of empirical normality of such estimators can lead to a systematic underestimation of p-values, the breakdown of multiple comparison control procedures and in consequence a drastic inflation of the number of false positives.

Few studies to date have characterized daily exclusive e-cigarette users, device characteristics, and use behaviors. This study describes daily e-cigarette user characteristics, and assesses the association between user behaviors and demographics.

From 2015-2017, 100 daily exclusive e-cigarette users and 50 non-users were recruited in Maryland, USA. Sociodemographic characteristics, health status, e-cigarette/tobacco use behaviors, device characteristics, and reasons for e-cigarette use were collected by interview. Chi-squared tests (categorical variables), Student's t-test (continuous variables), and linear regressions were used to assess relationships between variables.

Most daily exclusive e-cigarette users were men, White, former smokers, used MODs/tanks, and vaped on average 365 puffs/day (SD 720). A third of users first vaped within 5 minutes of waking in the morning, and 56% vaped throughout the day. E-liquid consumption ranged from 5-240 mL/week (median 32.5), with nicotine concentration 0-24 mglein, formaldehyde) compounds with known toxic effects, particularly to the lung. Further research is needed to characterize the long-term health effects of daily e-cigarette use.Women who use opiates and are involved in the criminal justice system in Appalachia may be prone to adverse health outcomes. In this study, we performed a latent class analysis of risk and protective factors on 400 drug-using women recruited from rural, Appalachian jails. A two-profile solution best fit the data. Both profiles evinced low levels of condom use, reproductive and physical health screens, and STD history. However, the primary substantive difference between the profiles was partner risk behavior the higher risk class had main male partners with histories of injection drug use and incarceration. Results suggest that interventions need to be tailored to unique profiles of risk and protective factors, which should include taking partner risk into consideration. We present a computational approach for identifying the important descriptors of the ionic conductivities of lithium solid electrolytes. Our approach discriminates the factors of both bulk and grain boundary conductivities, which have been rarely reported. The effects of the interrelated structural (e.g. grain size, phase), material (e.g. Li ratio), chemical (e.g. electronegativity, polarizability) and experimental (e.g. sintering temperature, synthesis method) properties on the bulk and grain boundary conductivities are investigated via machine learning. The data are trained using the bulk and grain boundary conductivities of Li solid conductors at room temperature. The important descriptors are elucidated by their feature importance and predictive performances, as determined by a nonlinear XGBoost algorithm (i) the experimental descriptors of sintering conditions are significant for both bulk and grain boundary, (ii) the material descriptors of Li site occupancy and Li ratio are the prior descriptors for bulk, (iii) the density and unit cell volume are the prior structural descriptors while the polarizability and electronegativity are the prior chemical descriptors for grain boundary, (iv) the grain size provides physical insights such as the thermodynamic condition and should be considered for determining grain boundary conductance in solid polycrystalline ionic conductors. The purpose of the study was to investigate the effect of dexmedetomidine hydrochloride (Dex) on the recovery of cognitive function, hemodynamics, and postoperative analgesia in patients undergoing intracranial aneurysm craniotomy.

general anesthesia was performed on patients undergoing intracranial aneurysm craniotomy in neurosurgery. Patients were randomly divided into three groups Dex 1 group (Dex dose 1μg/kg), Dex 2 group (Dex dose 0.5μg/kg), and blank control group (normal saline). The changes of heart rate, arterial pressure, intraoperative brain function index, and postoperative pain score were recorded and compared.

in Dex 1 group and Dex 2 group, the heart rate of T1 and T2 phase was significantly lower than that of T3-T7 phases (P<0.05); compared with the control group, the heart rate of Dex 1 group and Dex 2 group was significantly lower (P<0.05). The average arterial pressure of the control group and Dex groups was significantly different (P<0.05). Compared with the control group, there were significant differences between Dex 1 group and Dex 2 group S100 β protein in T7-T10, NSE (neuron specific enolase) in T9 and T10, pain score in T8, T9 and T10 after operation.

the application of Dex in the resection of intracranial aneurysms can protect the brain of patients, minimize the influence of operation on hemodynamics, and relieve postoperative pain, which is worthy of clinical application.

Although the onset may occur at any age, it typically emerges in the second to fourth decades of life. As in the case presented here, Behçet's disease can manifest with the central nervous system involvement early in life and pulmonary involvement in adulthood. The use of some agents as radioprotectors has been evaluated for protection against normal tissue toxicity following exposure to ionizing radiation. Resveratrol, a natural flavonoid, with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties has attracted research interests for its radioprotective potential. This study systematically evaluates existing studies to examine the radioprotective effectiveness of resveratrol. A literature search of the electronic databases, including PubMed, Scopus, and Embase was conducted to retrieve articles investigating the protective effect of resveratrol against ionizing radiation-induced damage to normal tissues. The search timeframe ranged from the inception of each database to January 2020. From an initial search of 231 articles, and after the removal of duplicates as well as applying the predetermined inclusion and exclusion criteria, 33 articles were finally included for this systematic review. Results showed promising protective effect of resveratrol against ionizing radiation-induced damage to normal tissues. Furthermore, no adverse effect was observed after administering resveratrol. Resveratrol showed the potential to protect against ionizing radiation-induced damage to normal tissue cells via notable mechanisms, including anti-apoptotic and anti-inflammatory effects. However, further studies on the efficacy of clinical translation of resveratrol would open up more insights, while other gray areas such as the optimal radioprotective dosage of resveratrol requires further investigation. Overall, resveratrol is a potential double-edged sword in cancer therapy while protecting healthy tissues.Autism spectrum disorder [ASD] is characterized by deficits in communication and social interactions combined with repetitive and restricted patterns of behaviors. Bidirectional changes in brain-gut microbiota are known to be responsible for the pathophysiology of many brain-related disorders, such as autism, as well as well-known gastrointestinal diseases, including gut disorders. Imbalance in the composition of gut microbiota is frequently observed in individuals with ASD. It is therefore believed that this imbalance is significant in the frequent occurrence of gastrointestinal symptoms. The integrity of the intestinal barrier and the blood-brain barrier [BBB] in individuals with ASD is affected. Incompletely digested peptides, toxins, and proinflammatory cytokines cross the BBB by entering the bloodstream and reach the central nervous system. As a result of the accumulation of these elements, brain function is adversely affected. It is hypothesized that incompletely digested peptides acting as opioid agonists reduce pain sensitivity and increase the severity of autism-specific behaviors.
