As per the Caprini risk assessment model, the majority of surgical patients treated at TASH were at risk of developing VTE. However, thromboprophylaxis was underutilized. The incidence of VTE was 1.93% in our study.

Effective management of hypertension and diabetes through accurate diagnosis and treatment can reduce the risk of complications and early deaths. This study was a descriptive cross-sectional study aimed at determining practices regarding hypertension and type 2 diabetes management among healthcare providers in Kaduna and Imo States, Nigeria. Data were collected using a semi-structured interviewer administered questionnaire consisting of questions across four major domains 1) screening; 2) diagnosis; 3) pharmacological; and 4) non-pharmacological treatment of hypertension and diabetes.

A total of 77 healthcare providers were interviewed and they included; 20 (26.5%) medical doctors, 25 (32.5%) nurses/midwives, 18 (23.4%) community health extension workers and 3 (3.9%) pharmacists. Lazertinib order Almost half (46.8%) of the respondents indicated that they prioritize routine blood pressure (BP) checks among all adult patients while only 30 (39.0%) and 8 (10.4%) correctly identified the diagnostic criteria for hypertension ato ensure better treatment outcomes.

A significant knowledge gap was identified in the diagnosis and treatment of hypertension and diabetes among the respondents due to unavailability of properly outlined management guidelines for these conditions for the different cadres of healthcare workers in Nigeria. There is a need for the development and wide distribution of guidelines highlighting cadre-specific roles for healthcare providers in hypertension and diabetes management and standard operating procedures based on such guidelines should be available at various points of care to ensure better treatment outcomes.

Rational use of medicines is a necessary constrict towards increasing access for those that desperately need them in society. In this study, we assess medicines prescribing patterns in healthcare facilities implementing free healthcare policy for pregnant women, lactating mothers and children under the age of five in Sierra Leone.

Using WHO drug use indicators, we evaluated prescription records from the pharmacies of four hospitals; one from each of the four regions in Sierra Leone. To study prescribing indicators, we systematically sampled 1200 prescriptions overall (300/hospital) retrospectively spanning a year, from June 2017 to July 2018. In evaluating patients care indicators, we randomly sampled 120 (30/hospital) patients encounter prospectively. We used MS Excel 2016 and IMB SPSS in data analysis, and p< 0.05 was considered significant for associational analysis.

The average drug per prescription was 3.6 (SD=1.3) overall, 3.5 (1.3) for children under five and 3.4 (1.4) for pregnant women/lactaise drug use in these hospitals.

Following WHO drug use indicators used in this study, drugs were irrationally prescribed within government hospitals providing free healthcare in Sierra Leone. Sustainability of the free healthcare scheme will require efficient medicine supply and management strategies. Therefore, the formulation of stewardship programs and/or an active Drug and Therapeutics Committee may be necessary to optimise drug use in these hospitals.

This research aims to explore the health knowledge mastery of preschool teachers in Chongqing.

A cross-sectional questionnaire survey of preschool teachers in Chongqing was conducted by random sampling. A total of 399 preschool teachers were included in this research. Multiple linear regression analysis was conducted to explore the influencing factors on preschool teachers' mastery of preschool child health knowledge.

This research found that the average score of preschool teacher's knowledge of preschool children was only 34.01±0.78, and the accuracy of the knowledge points of continuous short-distance eye use time was the lowest, at less than 5%. The conducting of eye exercises by the kindergarten and the scores of preschool teachers were negatively correlated (β=-0.257, p<0.001); the score of health knowledge of preschool teachers of the kindergarten whose screen time met the standard was lower (β=-0.113, p=0.017); whether the time and frequency for outdoor activities of the kindergarten met the sive measures can also be directly provided at the kindergarten level in the future to increase the health knowledge of preschool teachers.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), alcohol-based hand rubs (ABHRs) are regarded as the "gold standard" for hand disinfection in healthcare facilities. Local production of ABHRs in health facilities is recommended by WHO due to its availability and affordability reasons. However, fire hazard is a concern in health facilities during ABHRs production, storage, or use from dispensers.

To evaluate the preparedness of public hospitals found in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia towards potential fire hazards during ABHR production and storage practices.

A cross-sectional observational study was applied. An assessment checklist was used for evaluating public hospitals' measures taken for the potential fire hazards during ABHR production and storage practice. Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 23 was used for data entry and analysis.

Out of the 13 public hospitals observed in the study, fire extinguishers were not available in more than half of the hospitals' (7 hospitals) compounding prospitals were found to be well prepared for the potential risk of fire associated with ABHR solution production and storage practice. Generally, the practices taken by the studied hospitals for preventing the fire risk and minimizing the damage if fire hazards occurred during ABHR production and storage were not satisfactory. On the safety and precautions measures taken for the risk of fire, Tikur Anbessa Specialized Hospital (TASH), Amanuel Mental Specialized Hospital (AMSH), and Eka Kotebe General Hospital (EKGH) showed a relatively better preparedness compared to others. ABHR solutions should be manufactured and stored in a way that limits the risk of ignition and follows standard fire safety measures.
