The mechanism of gingival growth that may occur during fixed orthodontic treatment is not yet fully understood and the amount of dental plaque is often incriminated. The objective of this study was to evaluate the prevalence of gingival growth during multi-attachment orthodontic treatment and to prioritize its predicting factors, especially the quantity of biofilm.

This comprehensive cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on orthodontic patients aged 9 to 30 years, in good health, treated by a fixed appliance. A meta-regression analysis using 116 studies evaluating P4P schemes published between January 2010 to February 2018. The effects of the research design, incentive schemes, use of incentives, and the size of the payment to revenue ratio on the proportion of statically significant effects in each study were examined.

There was evidence of an increase in the range of countries adopting P4P schemes and weak evidence that the proportion of studies with statistically significant effects have increased. Factors hypothesized to influence the success of schemes have not changed. Studies evaluating P4P schemes which made payments for improvement over time, were associated with a lower proportion of statistically significant effects. Anal fissure is a common complication of the anorectal region and one of the most reported causes of anal pain. Acute anal fissure can be cured by surgery or medical treatment. There is an increase in the use of topical therapy for the treatment of anal fissures. A common topical drug used is Diltiazem (DTZ), a calcium-channel blocker, which relaxes the anal sphincter and thus promotes healing of the anal fissure. Moist exposed burn ointment (MEBO) is an ointment that is effective for the treatment of burns and wound healing and is becoming popular in the treatment of anal fissures.

This is a 111 randomized, controlled, parallel design, with endpoint measures of change in pain score, wound healing, defecation strain score and patient's global impression of improvement. The study will be conducted at AUBMC over a 10-week period. Patients will be randomized to three treatment arms MEBO, Diltiazem, and a combination of MEBO and Diltiazem ointments.

The results of this study will allow physicians to assess the efficacy and safety of MEBO in the treatment of acute anal fissure, and also in comparison to Diltiazem. This trial will generate evidence-based conclusions regarding the use of a herbal/natural-based product (MEBO ointment) for the treatment of anal fissures.

Myeloid sarcoma is a rare, extramedullary, solid tumor derived from immature myeloid cell precursors. It is most frequently accompanied by acute myelogenous leukemia, though infrequently found in non-acute myelogenous leukemia patients. The tumor may involve any part of the body, but the lumbar spine is seldom involved. The present case study aims to understand the diagnosis and surgical treatment of a rare primary isolated myeloid sarcoma of the lumbar spine causing aggressive spinal cord compression in a non-acute myelogenous leukemia patient.

In this work, we aimed to demonstrate how to utilize the lab test results and other clinical information to support precision medicine research and clinical decisions on complex diseases, with the support of electronic medical record facilities. We defined "clinotypes" as clinical information that could be observed and measured objectively using biomedical instruments. From well-known 'omic' problem definitions, we defined problems using clinotype information, including stratifying patients-identifying interested sub cohorts for future studies, mining significant associations between clinotypes and specific phenotypes-diseases, and discovering potential linkages between clinotype and genomic information. We solved these problems by integrating public omic databases and applying advanced machine learning and visual analytic techniques on two-year health exam records from a large population of healthy southern Chinese individuals (size n = 91,354). When developing the solution, we carefully addressed the missing information, imbalance and non-uniformed data annotation issues.
