Substance use may affect sexual functioning in both men and women. Comorbid sexual dysfunction adds to the clinical burden of substance use disorders (SUD).

The broad aims were to identify research conduct, types of the available evidence, and research gaps in (i) estimating the incidence, prevalence, type, and severity of sexual dysfunction in adults with SUD; (ii) exploring correlates of sexual dysfunction in SUD.

We conducted systematic searches on PubMed, Google Scholar, and Embase for studies published in the English language between August 1954 and November 2020. We included prospective and cross-sectional observational studies that had examined the prevalence or incidence of any sexual dysfunction in adults of either gender with substance use disorders. Review articles and those with an exclusive focus on tobacco use disorders were excluded. The review was registered in PROSPERO.

Our search identified 65 relevant articles, including five prospective studies. All the prospective studies and mostcal population, stimulants, and cannabis use disorders, and effect of treatment of SUD in sexual functioning. The quality of evidence is poor. A novel infection, COVID-19, emerged in China and soon became a global pandemic. Pandemic conditions have resulted in stress in the workplace and led to anxiety among healthcare workers (HCWs), having negative impacts on different aspects of their lives, including their sexual function.

To evaluate the changes in the anxiety status of HCWs during the COVID-19 pandemic and the impact of anxiety on their sexual functions.

This is a longitudinal study based on an online survey conducted from April 2020 to February 2021 in hospitals designated as pandemic healthcare centers. An online survey link was sent to HCWs that provided consent for participation in the study. The anxiety status of the participants was assessed using the State Anxiety Inventory, and sexual function was evaluated using the International Index of Erectile Function-15 for men and Female Sexual Function Index for women.

Scores obtained at the beginning of the pandemic were compared with those obtained at 6 months into the pandemic to deer of participants across several institutions. However, being conducted in one country and the sample not being randomly selected and being based on voluntariness can be considered as limitations.

Our results show that the COVID-19 pandemic has led to an increase in the anxiety levels of both female and male HCWs, and this situation has negatively affected their sexual functions. Diagnostic criteria for the disorder are inconsistent, ranging from one to many clinical signs. CI-1040 concentration Methodology for clinical tests is inconsistent in measurement technique, visual targets, required repetitions, and normative values. This manuscript demonstrates the inconsistencies amongst published studies, and highlights the importance of consistent clinical diagnostic signs, measurement techniques, visual targets, and cut-off criteria. For each clinical sign, the recommended methodology for the procedure is described. Several studies do not take age into account when diagnosing CI in their cohorts. As such, the review emphasizes changes in diagnostic signs with age. This manuscript highlights the need for consistent and clear procedures and diagnostic criteria amongst clinicians and provides the basis for future studies in terms of diagnostic testing required for CI of varying age groups. In early 2020, many medical dosimetry programs began to offer lectures and clinical rotations remotely in response to COVID-19. Faculty instituted an IRB-approved study to investigate the effectiveness of medical dosimetry educational programs' immediate response to COVID-19 and modifications to teaching practices during the pandemic. The Program Response to COVID-19 Effectiveness Questionnaire (PRCEQ) survey was developed to measure students' perceptions of their learning experience during COVID-19. The subject of the study was the medical dosimetry current and former student population who received modified education delivery during the COVID-19 pandemic. This study suggests that generally students are satisfied with the quality of their virtual didactic and clinical education as well as communication between faculty and students and students to students. Programs should develop strategies to engage students during the virtual classes to motivate them to learn; utilize a variety of formats for the evaluation of students' learning, incorporate activities to help students make connections with real-world clinical situations, and schedule clinical visits for students to learn tasks that require their physical presence in clinic.Neutrophils are critical innate immune cells for the host anti-bacterial defense. Throughout their lifecycle, neutrophils are exposed to different microenvironments and modulate their metabolism to survive and sustain their functions. Although tumor cell metabolism has been intensively investigated, how neutrophil metabolism is affected in cancer remains largely to be discovered. Neutrophils are described as mainly glycolytic cells. However, distinct tumor-associated neutrophil (TAN) states may co-exist in tumors and adapt their metabolism to exert different or even opposing activities ranging from tumor cell killing to tumor support. In this review, we gather evidence about the metabolic mechanisms that underly TANs' pro- or anti-tumoral functions in cancer. We first discuss how tumor-secreted factors and the heterogenous tumor microenvironment can have a strong impact on TAN metabolism. We then describe alternative metabolic pathways used by TANs to exert their functions in cancer, from basic glycolysis to more recently-recognized but less understood metabolic shifts toward mitochondrial oxidative metabolism, lipid and amino acid metabolism and even autophagy. Last, we discuss promising strategies targeting neutrophil metabolism to combat cancer.Noscapine is a phthalide isoquinoline alkaloid with antitussive activity. Noscapine protects oligodendroglia from ischemic and chemical injury, binds to bitter taste receptors, antagonizes the bradykinin and histaminergic systems, which may be of benefit in treatment of multiple sclerosis. Noscapine normalizes axonal transport and exerts significant therapeutic efficacy in animal models of Parkinson's Disease and Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis. Noscapine exerts neuroprotective effects on oxygen- and glucose-deprived fetal cortical neuronal cells and reduces ischemic brain damage in neonatal rat pups. Pilot clinical studies indicated some beneficial effects of noscapine in stroke. Noscapine harbours anxiolytic activity and methyl-noscapine blocks small conductance SK channels, which is beneficial in alleviating anxiety and depression. Noscapine exerts anticholinesterase activity and acts inhibitory on the inflammatory transcription factor NF-κB, which may be harnessed in treatment of Alzheimer's Disease. With its blood-brain barrier traversing features and versatile actions, noscapine may be a promising agent in the armamentarium against neurodegenerative and psychiatric diseases.

Preoperative chemoradiotherapy (CRT) is the standard treatment for locally advanced rectal cancer (LARC). However, CRT failed to impact metastatic recurrence and the risk of side effects on bowel and genitourinary remained a concern. Neoadjuvant chemotherapy alone with mFOLFOX6 or FOLFOXIRI had been investigated in LARC. Here, we tried to compare the efficacy of mFOLFOXIRI with mFOLFOX6 as neoadjuvant chemotherapy in LARC.

Between January 2014 and December 2019, patients with LARC receiving neoadjuvant chemotherapy with mFOLFOXIRI or mFOLFOX6 were retrospective analyzed, including data from a prospective trial (NCT02217020). All patients underwent total mesorectal excision (TME). The propensity-score matching was preformed to adjust baseline potential confounders and to estimate differences in outcomes between patients receiving mFOLFOXIRI and mFOLFOX6. Survival analysis was done using Kaplan-Meier analysis and Cox proportional regression analysis.

The median follow-up time was 31.1 months. After propenIRI chemotherapy was well tolerated and led to higher rates of 3 year disease-free survival in patients with locally advanced rectal cancer.

This trial assessed the short-term and long-term effects of neoadjuvant chemotherapy with mFOLFOXIRI and mFOLFOX6 in patients with locally advanced rectal cancer. Comparing with propensity-score matched historical control of chemoradiotherapy, neoadjuvant mFOLFOXIRI chemotherapy was well tolerated and led to higher rates of 3 year disease-free survival in patients with locally advanced rectal cancer.

Current evidence has revealed the beneficial effects of mobile health applications on systolic and diastolic blood pressure. However, there is still no solid evidence of the underlying factors for these outcomes, and hypertension treatment is performed mainly by medication intake. This study aims to analyze the impacts of health applications on medication adherence of patients with hypertension and understand the underlying factors.

A systematic review and meta-analysis were conducted considering controlled clinical trials published, without year filter, through July 2020. The searches were performed in the electronic databases of Scopus, MEDLINE, and BVSalud. Study characteristics were extracted for qualitative synthesis. The meta-analysis examined medication-taking behavior outcomes using the generic inverse-variance method to combine multiple variables.

A total of 1,199 records were identified, of which 10 studies met the inclusion criteria for qualitative synthesis, and 9 met the criteria for meta-analysis with 1,495 participants.
