Time-restricted feeding and food enriched in polyphenols are strategies to prevent or reduce metabolic disorders. Bean leaves (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) are a recognized source of polyphenolic compounds, whose effects on metabolic pathways are not well studied. We evaluated the combined effects of dietary supplementation with Phaseolus vulgaris leaves (10% w/w) (BL) and a 7-h daytime-restricted feeding protocol (RF) under a hypercaloric diet (high fat + high fructose) (HFFD) on the metabolic parameters related to glucose and lipid handling. Adult male Wistar rats were treated for 8 weeks with standard and HFFD diets with or without BL. The results showed that RF improved metabolic alterations induced by HFFD (e.g., hepatic steatosis, increased triacylglycerols, and serum lipoproteins). Supplementation with BL significantly enhanced this effect and downregulated the mRNA expression of carbohydrate and lipid metabolism genes in the liver. These results indicate that dietary supplementation with BL enhances the benefits elicited by RF.A bidirectional pathophysiological link connects heart failure and atrial fibrillation, creating a frequent and challenging comorbidity, which includes neurohormonal hyperactivation, fibrosis development, and electrophysiologic remodeling, while they share mutual risk factors. Management for these devastating comorbidities includes most of the established treatment measures for heart failure as well as rhythm or rate control and anticoagulation mostly for atrial fibrillation, which can be achieved with either pharmaceutical or non-pharmaceutical approaches. The current manuscript aims to review the existing literature regarding the underlying pathophysiology, to present the novel trends of treatment, and to predict the future perspective of these two linked diseases with the numerous unanswered questions.Sen's Capability Approach is one of the most significant theoretical contributions to welfare analysis across a range of disciplines. A part of the literature argues that its conceptual linear flow-from resources to 'functionings', which result in well-being-potentially ignores more complex relations with the feedback loops where a single item could be viewed as having a different role by different people, in different contexts. We explore perceptions of existing feedback relationships in interviews with 74 women from nine seaweed farming villages in Indonesia, engaged in two distinct activities seaweed farming and artisanal seaweed processing. We find that capability sets required for farming and for processing are distinct and in both cases we observe feedback loops. Several factors, notably social networks and transportation (motorbikes), were mentioned in almost all contexts indicating that not all resources are of equal 'value' and might yield different levels of well-being.
Major depressive disorder (MDD) affects millions of people worldwide. While the exact pathogenesis is yet to be elucidated, the role of neuro-immune signaling has recently emerged. Despite major advances in pharmacotherapy, antidepressant use is marred by limited efficacy and potential side effects. Cannabidiol (CBD), a phytocannabinoid, exerts antidepressant-like effects in experimental animals. This study investigated the impact of CBD on sickness behavior (SB), a measure of depressive-like response, and neuro-immune changes induced by lipopolysaccharides (LPS) in mice.
Socially isolated rodents were administered with LPS to trigger SB. and treated with CBD or its vehicle. Animals were submitted to forced swimming test, to evaluate depressive-like behavior, and to open field test, to evaluate locomotory activity. Immediately after behavioral analyses, animals were euthanized and had their hypothalamus, prefrontal cortex and hippocampus dissected, to proceed neurotrophins and cytokines analyses. ELISA was used to detect IL-1β, BDNF and NGF; and cytometric beads array to measure IL-2, IL-4, IL-6, IFN-γ, TNF-α and IL-10 levels.
CBD effectively prevented SB-induced changes in the forced swim test without altering spontaneous locomotion. This phytocannabinoid also partially reversed LPS-evoked IL-6 increase in both the hypothalamus and hippocampus. In addition, CBD prevented endotoxin-induced increase in BDNF and NGF levels in the hippocampus of SB animals.
Apparently, CBD prevents both behavioral and neuro-immunological changes associated with LPS-induced SB, which reinforces its potential use as an antidepressant which modulates neuroinflammation. This opens up potentially new therapeutic avenues in MDD.

Radiation necrosis (RN) represents a serious post-radiotherapy complication in patients with brain metastases. Bevacizumab and laser interstitial thermal therapy (LITT) are viable treatment options, but direct comparative data is scarce. We reviewed the literature to compare the two treatment strategies.
PubMed, EMBASE, Scopus, and Cochrane databases were searched. All studies of patients with RN from brain metastases treated with bevacizumab or LITT were included. Treatment outcomes were analyzed using indirect meta-analysis with random-effect modeling.
Among the 18 studies included, 143 patients received bevacizumab and 148 underwent LITT. Both strategies were equally effective in providing post-treatment symptomatic improvement (P = 0.187, I
= 54.8%), weaning off steroids (P = 0.614, I
= 25.5%), and local lesion control (P = 0.5, I
= 0%). Mean number of lesions per patient was not statistically significant among groups (P = 0.624). Similarly, mean T1-contrast-enhancing pre-treatment volumes werurvival benefits in select patients. Further studies are required to identify the best patient candidates for each treatment group. This case-control study compared dietary sugar exposure and oral health status between children with and without Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), aged 5-12 years (n = 136, each). Data regarding socio-demographics, child's oral hygiene practices and behavior, diet-related behavior, oral habits and dental trauma were obtained. Child's diet on the previous day was recorded using 24-h recall method and sugar exposure was calculated using Dental Diet Diary (D3) mobile application. Oral Hygiene Index-Simplified (OHI-S), deft and DMFT were recorded. NS 105 chemical structure Results showed no significant differences in sugar exposure, deft and DMFT between the groups. Although oral hygiene practices were significantly better in children with ASD, their OHI-S was significantly worse. Significantly more children with ASD reported mouth-breathing, bruxism and self-injurious habits.
