Alpha-lipoic acid (ALA)-containing dietary supplements are widely used in clinical practice, although their safety assessment is under-investigated. We characterize the safety profile of ALA-containing products by analysing spontaneous reports of suspected adverse reactions (ARs).

Suspected ARs to ALA-containing products were extracted from the Italian Phytovigilance System (IPS), and scrutinized in terms of seriousness and causality (through WHO UMC system), with a specific focus on important (IMEs) and designated medical events (DMEs). To characterize the reporting profile from an international perspective, the WHO-VigiBase was also queried.

From March 2002 to February 2020, out of 2147 total reports, 116 reports concerning 212 ARs to ALA-containing products were collected. Women were involved in 68.1% of cases. Skin (44.9%) and gastrointestinal disorders (10.8%) were the most frequently represented ARs. Causality assessment resulted as definite (15), probable (35), possible (24), unlikely (5), and un their safety profile through valuable spontaneous reporting systems such as IPS.

Data on the effects omega-3 fatty acids on coronary artery disease (CAD) are contradictory. While a recent metanalysis could not show improved cardiovascular outcomes, anti-atherogenic mechanisms are well known.

Aim was to assess the influence of Omega-3 polyunsaturated long-chain fatty acids (PUFA) supplementation on coronary atherosclerosis quantified by coronary computed tomography angiography (CTA).

106 patients (59.4y±10.7; 50% females) with low-to-intermediate risk referred to CTA were included. 53 patients under omega 3-PUFA (docosahexaenoic acid, DHA and eicosapentaenoic acid, EPA) supplementation were retrospectively matched with 53 controls (CR) for age, gender and coronary risk profile (smoking, arterial hypertension, family history, dyslipidemia, c-LDL, Cholesterol, TG, diabetes) (11, propensity score) and lifestyle habits (exercise, alcohol consumption and nutrition). CTA analysis included 1) stenosis severity score >70%severe, 50-70% moderate, 25-50%mild, <25% minimal), 2) total plaqan lipid-rich atheroma. Mean duration of Omega-3 intake was 38.6±52months (range, 2-240).

To describe a contrast medium distribution pattern after peribulbar injection in cadavers.

A cadaveric study.

A group of eight male dogs and four canine cadaver heads.

In phase 1, ultrasound-guided peribulbar injections (1.0 mL dye) were performed in four orbits using a subzygomatic approach. After dissection, the procedure was considered successful if 1) no dye was found in the retrobulbar space, 2) the peribulbar compartment was stained and 3) the dye reached the orbital fissure. In phase 2, using 16 orbits, the same technique was used to inject 0.1 mL kg



contrast medium into (group A, n= 8) or outside (group B, n= 8) the peribulbar compartment. After freezing at -20°C, orbits were imaged using computed tomography, and the contrast medium distribution was analysed.

In phase 1, the procedure was successful in all four eyes. In phase 2, two orbits (one in each group) were removed from the study one was not injected and the other was injected twice. Mothers with physical disabilities (MPDs) face the behavioral and psychosocial changes of the motherhood transition with fewer resources, additional barriers, and higher risks than nondisabled mothers. In this study we sought guidance from MPDs on adaptations needed to a health promotion toolkit for behavioral and psychosocial health that was originally developed for nondisabled, primarily low-income, women.

11 MPDs were interviewed by videoconferencing in a mixed-methods study about their perspectives on improving relevance of the existing toolkit for this population. The toolkit contained three components assessment scale, feedback template on assessment results, and a decision aid related to behavior change.
