Standardized laboratory impact testing, such as the yearly NFL helmet test, is used to rank the protective performance of football helmets, motivating new technologies to improve the safety of helmets relative to existing equipment. In this work, we hypothesized that a helmet which transmits a nearly constant minimum force will result in a reduced risk of mTBI. To evaluate the plausibility of this hypothesis, we first show that the optimal force transmitted to the head, in a reduced order model of the brain, is in fact a constant force profile. To simulate the effects of a constant force within a helmet, we conceptualize a fluid-based shock absorber system for use within a football helmet. We integrate this system within a computational helmet model and simulate its performance on the standard NFL helmet test impact conditions. The simulated helmet is compared with other helmet designs with different technologies. Computer simulations of head impacts with liquid shock absorption predict that, at the highest impact speed (9.3 m/s), the average brain tissue strain is reduced by 27.6% ± 9.3 compared to existing helmet padding when tested on the NFL helmet protocol. This simulation-based study puts forth a target benchmark for the future design of physical manifestations of this technology.

Retrospective-observational-unicentric study was collected hospitalized patients in intravenous colistin treatment during the years 2018-2019. Nephrotoxicity was defined according to the RIFLE scale. The variables to determine it were serum creatinine (sCr) and glomerular filtration (GF). The variables analyzed were age, sex, treatment duration, loading and cumulative dose, empirical/targeted treatment, chronic kidney disease, concomitant use of intravenous contrast and nephrotoxic drugs.

A total of 90 patients (60% men) were included, with an average age of 58.2±18.1 years. The mean duration of treatment was 9±8.3 days, with an average cumulative dose of 69.8±71MU. There were no differences between sCr and GF at the beginning and end of treatment. The incidence of nephrotoxicity was 1.73 cases/100 days of treatment (prevalence of 15.56%).

The molecule layer structure is confirmed by histograms of molecule radius and apparent height obtained from STM images using a python based open source code. Annealing at 116 °C initiates a tilting of coronene molecules on Au(111) by about 11 ± 4° which is deduced from statistical image analysis. The structural analysis is combined with an assessment of apparent height modulation with bias voltage to ascertain the reliability of the statistical analysis. This is a descriptive study of maternal-fetal pairs with early FGR diagnosed prior to 30 weeks' gestation and delivering between 22w0d and 34w0d under the care of Wake Forest University Perinatology 01/2012-12/2016. Serial ultrasounds to assess fetal growth and umbilical artery flow Doppler velocimetry were evaluated. Pairs were dichotomized into those with maternal comorbidities leading to ultrasound diagnosis, and those with ultrasound indicated only by appreciation of uterine size less than dates on exam.
