The diagnosis of prostate cancer (PCa) can be challenging due to the limited performance of current diagnostic tests, including PSA, digital rectal examination and transrectal conventional US. Multiparametric MRI has improved PCa diagnosis and is recommended prior to biopsy; however, mp-MRI does miss a substantial number of PCa. click here Advanced US modalities include transrectal prostate elastography and contrast-enhanced US, as well as improved B-mode, micro-US and micro-Doppler techniques. These techniques can be combined to define a novel US approach, multiparametric US (mp-US). Mp-US improves PCa diagnosis but is not sufficiently accurate to obviate the utility of mp-MRI. Mp-US using advanced techniques and mp-MRI provide complementary information which will become even more important in the era of focal therapy, where precise identification of PCa location is needed.We describe the case of an adult female patient with symptomatic familial hypocalciuric hypercalcemia requiring a step-wise therapeutic approach and the eventual need for a total parathyroidectomy and thyroidectomy to cure symptoms. Genetic analysis demonstrated a heterozygous R227L inactivating CASR gene variant, previously only described in neonatal severe hyperparathyroidism. Post-operative histology showed diffuse hyperplasia of all four parathyroid glands along with the presence of intrathyroidal parathyroid tissue. The revised acknowledgements is given below.The Australian water rat, Hydromys chrysogaster, preys on a wide variety of aquatic and semiaquatic arthropods and vertebrates, including fish. A frequently observed predatory strategy of Hydromys is sitting in wait at the water's edge with parts of its vibrissae submersed. Here we show that Hydromys can detect water motions with its whiskers. Behavioural thresholds range from 1.0 to 9.4 mm s-1 water velocity, based on maximal horizontal water velocity in the area covered by the whiskers. This high sensitivity to water motions would enable Hydromys to detect fishes passing by. No responses to surface waves generated by a vibrating rod and resembling the surface waves caused by struggling insects were found.PURPOSE Abnormalities during Müllerian duct and female reproductive tract formation during embryonic development result in Müllerian duct anomalies (MDA). Previous studies have identified a role for mutations in related genes and DNA copy number variation (CNV). However, the correlation between gene methylation and MDA remains to be understood. METHODS Endometrial tissues were collected from patients with septate (n = 23) or normal uterus (n = 28). We detected the methylation status of CpG sites and mRNA levels of nine candidate genes, including HOXA10, EMX2, TP63, ITGB3, PAX2, LHX1, GSC, WNT4, and H19, using MethyTarget and quantitative real-time polynucleotide chain reaction (qRT-PCR), respectively RESULTS Compared with healthy controls, we detected three hypomethylated CpG sites (P 0.05). CONCLUSIONS Aberrant DNA methylation within the promoter of PAX2 may contribute to the development of MDA by regulating its gene expression. However, the methylation status of HOXA10, EMX2, TP63, ITGB3, LHX1, GSC, WNT4, and H19, may not contribute to the development of MDA.PURPOSE Despite the introduction of sentinel node biopsy in patients with vulvar cancer, still approximately 50% of all patients have to undergo an inguinofemoral lymphadenectomy. This is associated with a high incidence of postoperative complications, which may be influenced by inguinal drain management. The aim of this study was to investigate the feasibility of a new surgical technique regarding drain management with an inguinoperitoneal drainage. METHODS A retrospective analysis of 21 vulvar cancer patients with inguinofemoral lymphadenectomy was conducted. A silicone drain was circularly placed with the perforated end in the groin and the other end in the space of Douglas. The removal after 3 months was performed under local anesthesia. All patients were questioned during clinical follow-up regarding their personal experiences with the procedure, the occurrence of complications, and side effects using a clinical questionnaire. RESULTS In 100% of the patients, the procedure was feasible. Regarding the number of groin punctures due to lymphocyst formation, 15 (71.4%) patients did not need any intervention and 3 (14.3%) patients needed 1-3 punctures. The patient satisfaction with the internal drainage was ranked as good by 17 (81.0%) patients and as moderate by 1 (4.8%) patient. In 3 (14.3%) patients, information about the number of groin punctures and the patient satisfaction were missing. CONCLUSION Inguinoperitoneal drainage after inguinofemoral lymphadenectomy in vulvar cancer patients is feasible and safe and a patient satisfaction of 81% is promising. For definitive conclusions regarding the efficacy of this technique, further investigations and prospective multicenter trials are needed.PURPOSE The head of the hippocampus (H) is classically described as having two to four digitations both in ex vivo specimens and in vivo MR coronal images. The aim of this study was to develop and evaluate a new MR-based classification of the anatomical variants of the hippocampal head in a large sample population of healthy subjects. METHODS MR images of the brain of 238 young healthy subjects (138 men and 100 women; age range 18-39) were analyzed. The head of the H was identified on coronal reformatted 3D T1 weighted MR images. The frequencies were reported for hemisphere and sex. Inter-rater reliability was assessed. RESULTS Eight variants of the hippocampal head were described. Class 0 (11.4%) indicated a total absence of sulci. This class was further subdivided as follows 0A (one digitation, 10.1%) and 0B (no digitations or "null variant", 1.3%). Class 1 (25.6%) presented a single sulcus and was further subdivided into four types according to the location and the width of the sulcus [1A (8.8%), 1B (12.8%), 1C (1.
