Online gaming has become a concern for health professionals due to its dysfunctional effects. This study aimed to conceptualise and summarise the impact that gaming platforms like PUBG can have on an individual's mental health. A systematic review was conducted using the PRISMA model. A total of five papers were shortlisted and reviewed for the purpose of this study. The results indicated the use of gaming platforms like PUBG by players to address and cope with anxiety and depression, and it also highly influences the presence of other concerns like ADHD and suicidality, self-harm and aggressive behaviours. While the literature points to the detrimental effects of PUBG, this study highlights the importance of undertaking more research to establish the causal patterns in PUBG use and how to address the issues posed from both psychological and legal perspectives.Eula Bingham, a toxicologist who invigorated the Occupational Safety and Health Administration as its director and set stringent standards to protect workers from hazardous materials, died on 13 June 2020 in Cincinnati. selleck compound Throughout Dr. Bingham's long career, she insisted tirelessly that workers had the absolute right to be safe on the job. Her thoughtful and generous wisdom shaped the entire field of occupational safety and health. Her bold and courageous actions prevented countless illnesses and injuries in workers around the world. This article presents the edited transcript from a Virtual Memorial Remembrance of Eula Bingham.Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women worldwide. Traditional therapies are expensive and cause severe side effects. Targeted therapy is a powerful method to circumvent the problems of other therapies. It also allows drugs to localize at predefined targets in a selective manner. Currently, there are several monoclonal antibodies which target breast cancer cell surface markers. However, using antibodies has some limitations. In the last two decades, many investigators have discovered peptides that may be useful to target breast cancer cells. In this article, we provide an overview on anti-breast cancer peptides, their sources and biological activities. We further discuss the pros and cons of using anticancer peptides with further emphasis on how to improve their effectiveness in cancer therapy.

Coil embolization of aneurysms of the ophthalmic segment of the internal carotid artery (ICA-OphA ANs) has potential risks of visual complications. We analyzed this risk and focused on the relationship of the ophthalmic artery (OphA) origin with the aneurysm neck.

From January 2003 to April 2018, 179 unruptured ICA-OphA ANs were treated with endovascular surgery in our institution. Two ruptured and four aneurysms with missing data were excluded. Finally, 173 unruptured aneurysms were included in this study. The aneurysms were classified into three groups according to the location of the OphA origin Separate, Shared, and Dome type. We retrospectively assessed visual complications based on the relationship between types of aneurysm and postoperative angiographic findings for the OphA.

Visual deficits remained permanent in eleven cases (6.4%). In the Dome type, visual complications were significantly more frequent compared to the Separate type. Change in the OphA flow was significantly associated with a higher complication rate of 2.9%, but patients with changed OphA flow had a significant rate of 7.5% (

= 0.020). We found no significant difference in the incidence of visual complications concerning the use of perioperative antithrombotic therapy.

The location of OphA origin regarding the aneurysmal neck and postoperative OphA flow were significantly correlated with the visual outcome after coil embolization for ICA-OphA ANs. Post-procedural flow in the OphA was an important factor affecting the rate of ischemic retinal complications. Retinal embolic events occurred with preserved flow in the OphA, albeit at a lower rate.

The levels of β-klotho (KLB), the co-receptor required for FGF21 action, are decreased in brown (BAT) and white (WAT) adipose tissues during obesity, diabetes, and lipodystrophy. Reduced β-klotho levels have been proposed to account for FGF21 resistance in these conditions. In this study, we explored whether downregulation of β-klotho affects metabolic regulation and the thermogenic responsiveness of adipose tissues using mice with total (KLB-KO) or partial (KLB-heterozygotes) ablation of β-klotho. We herein show that KLB gene dosage was inversely associated with adiposity in mice. Upon cold exposure, impaired browning of subcutaneous WAT and milder alterations in BAT were associated with reduced KLB gene dosage in mice. Cultured brown and beige adipocytes from mice with total or partial ablation of the KLB gene showed reduced thermogenic responsiveness to β3-adrenergic activation by treatment with CL316,243, indicating that these effects were cell-autonomous. Deficiency in FGF21 mimicked the KLB-reduction-induced impairment of thermogenic responsiveness in brown and beige adipocytes. These results indicate that the levels of KLB in adipose tissues determine their thermogenic capacity to respond to cold and/or adrenergic stimuli. Moreover, an autocrine action of FGF21 in brown and beige adipocytes may account for the ability of the KLB level to influence thermogenic responsiveness.NEW & NOTEWORTHY Reduced levels of KLB (the obligatory FGF21 co-receptor), as occurring in obesity and type 2 diabetes, reduce the thermogenic responsiveness of adipose tissues in cold-exposed mice. Impaired response to β3-adrenergic activation in brown and beige adipocytes with reduced KLB occurs in a cell-autonomous manner involving an autocrine action of FGF21.
