For the 256 slice GE revolution CT scanner, a length constant of [Formula see text] can be used for pediatric head, adult head, body (large filter), body (medium filter), and body (small filter) at 120 kV when growth function fit is used. The estimated [Formula see text] using the proposed polynomial based method is within 86.79% (83.14%-90.38%) of [Formula see text] obtained from fitting the growth function for beam widths from 40 to 160 mm. The proposed polynomial based estimation to the equilibrium dose, [Formula see text] can be readily implemented in practice for point dose measurements of wide beam CT scanners.Studies investigating the effects of computed tomography (CT) image acquisition and reconstruction parameters have mostly been limited to non-human phantoms to limit exposure to patients. This study investigates these variations using a cadaveric liver and determines harmonization methods to mitigate these variations. A reference CT scan of a cadaveric liver was acquired along with 16 modified scans. Modified scans were obtained with altered image acquisition and reconstruction parameters. In each slice, the liver was segmented and used to calculate 142 features. Student's t-tests assessed differences between reference and modified scans for each feature after correcting for multiple comparisons. Features were harmonized between reference and modified scans using histogram normalization, pixel resampling, Butterworth filtering, resampling and filtering combined, and ComBat harmonization. The number of features reflecting significant differences before and after harmonization were compared across imaging paramures on image acquisition and reconstruction parameters varies in a cadaveric liver; however, various harmonization methods have shown promise in mitigating these dependencies, particularly ComBat.The synthesis of heterostructured core-shell nanocrystals has attracted significant attention due to their wide range of applications in energy, medicine and environment. To further extend the possible nanostructures, non-epitaxial growth is introduced to form heterostructures with large lattice mismatches, which cannot be achieved by classical epitaxial growth techniques. Here, we report the synthetic procedure of Au@ZnTe core-shell nanostructures by cation exchange reaction for the first time. For that, bimetallic Au@Ag heterostructures were synthesized by using PDDA as stabilizer and shape-controller. Then, by addition of Te and Zn precursors in a step-wise reaction, the zinc and silver cation exchange was performed and Au@ZnTe nanocrystals were obtained. Structural and optical characterization confirmed the formation of the Au@ZnTe nanocrystals. The optimization of the synthesis led to the bright nanocrystals with a photoluminescence quantum yield up to 27%. The non-toxic, versatile synthetic route, and bright emission of the synthesized Au@ZnTe nanocrystals offer significant potential for future bio-imaging and optoelectronic applications.External quality assessment (EQA) is important for evaluating clinical laboratories and enhancing their testing quality. EQA schemes are variable; thus, it is crucial that the EQA organizers share their experiences to continuously improve the EQA scheme. The Korean Association of External Quality Assessment Service (KEQAS) has been the leading, authorized EQA institute for the standardization and quality management of laboratory testing in Korean medical institutions since 1976. The EQA scheme underwent a major change in 2016, and the number of EQA programs increased significantly since then. The key changes implemented in EQA scheme include a fully computerized assessment to accelerate feedback and unification of the testing and reporting methods. We provide an overview of the EQA schemes and performance evaluation criteria of the KEQAS and suggest directions for achieving the global harmonization of EQA.In response to the ongoing coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, an online laboratory surveillance system was established to monitor severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) real-time reverse transcription-PCR (rRT-PCR) testing capacities and results. SARS-CoV-2 rRT-PCR testing data were collected from 97 clinical laboratories, including 84 medical institutions and 13 independent clinical laboratories in Korea. We assessed the testing capacities to utilize SARS-CoV-2 rRT-PCR based on surveillance data obtained from February 7th to June 4th, 2020 and evaluated positive result characteristics according to the reagents used and sample types. A total of 1,890,319 SARS-CoV-2 rRT-PCR testing were performed, 2.3% of which were positive. Strong correlations were observed between the envelope (E) gene and RNA-dependent RNA polymerase (RdRp)/nucleocapsid (N) genes threshold cycle (Ct) values for each reagent. No statistically significant differences in gene Ct values were observed between the paired upper and lower respiratory tract samples, except in the N gene for nasopharyngeal swab and sputum samples. Our study showed that clinical laboratories in Korea have rapidly expanded their testing capacities in response to the COVID-19 outbreak, with a peak daily capacity of 34,193 tests. Rapid expansion in testing capacity is a critical component of the national response to the ongoing pandemic.Stool examination is the gold standard for the detection of intestinal parasites. We assessed the performance of a newly developed AVE-562 analyzer (AVE Science & Technology Co., Hunan, China) for the vision-based detection of eggs of Clonorchis sinensis-the most common intestinal parasite in Korea-in stool samples. In total, 30 stool samples with a high or low egg count or without eggs (as negative control samples) (N=10 each) were prepared and analyzed. find more The performance of the AVE-562 analyzer was compared with that of the formalin-ether concentration (FEC) method. The overall correct identification rate of the AVE-562 analyzer based on FEC results was 66.6%. The sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, and negative predictive value of the AVE-562 analyzer for detecting C. sinensis eggs were 36.4%, 100.0%, 100.0%, and 73.1%, respectively. The average time required to run five tests simultaneously was 27 min using the AVE-562 analyzer and 58 min using the FEC method. Although the AVE-562 analyzer enables rapid and convenient stool examination, its sensitivity needs to be improved, particularly considering the prevalence of low-burden C.
