UPVC Replacement Door Handles

Over time the handles on your doors will wear out and will require replacement. When doing this it is important that the new handles match the dimensions of the previous handle.

The three measurements you need to examine are the top screw position as well as the key hole and lever dimensions. Check the size guide for assistance in this.

Inline Lever/Lever

A lever/lever door handle is a modern handle that can be used on new or replacement doors. This style door handle is offered in a variety of styles & finishes. This handle is available from a number of manufacturers including Avocet ERA Fullex Hoppe Mila Millenco Yale.

Fab and Fix Windsor Inline Sprung Lever Door Handle

The door handles made of uPVC/Composite are constructed of durable materials and are perfect for multi point lock doors that require a strong design. The handles are inline and operate with the same spindle as well as screw fixings, so they can be easily fitted to existing or new uPVC/Composite doors.

The spring lever design allows the handle to be set and angled to provide a comfortable grip and is suitable for all users. The handle has been tested to 200,000 cycles, this will ensure the quality of the finish and the performance of the handle over time. The sprung lever can also be cut to fit more locks. This is useful for narrower doors where the cylinder is further back in the door. upvc door handle shortened lever can also be used for doors with a latch that can be activated with the thumb on the inside.

Lever Pad

The lever pad upvc handle differs from the lever handles commonly found on doors. The handle can use a single spindle (inline) or independently from each side by using two offset or inline spindles (pad). They are typically used on UPVC doors with double glazing. They come in a variety of finishes and variations.

The handles are available in a variety of finishes, including White chrome, and Gold. The finish is BS EN 1670 Grade 5 and is resistant to rust. This provides the handle with a high performance and durability for its intended purpose.

All UPVC handle lever pads include a spindle and screws and can be installed on the uPVC door. The 211mm backplate fixation centres permit a larger handle, which is often a benefit when replacing an old or damaged multi-point door lock mechanism. The levers for these handles have a spring, which solves the issue of door handles that sag out of their horizontal position when not in use.

When selecting the replacement UPVC handle and spindle it is crucial to match the PZ dimensions of both the multipoint lock and the uPVC door. This measurement is also called the 'handle centre' or 'cylinder centres which is a crucial aspect to match the correct handles.

Once you have the proper PZ size you will then need to ensure that the lever pads and push pads are a suitable shape for the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant handles that you require for your doors. These are typically square or round with an internal lever and an external push pad.

The majority of UPVC lever pads that we sell are sprung, meaning that they will return to their horizontal position when they are not in use, rather than hanging out and possibly securing in the frame. This prevents draughts from entering the home. The majority of UPVC lever pad style handles are available in left and right handed versions that allow them to be placed on either side of the doors.

Euro Cylinder

Cylinder locks can be found on uPVC and other kinds of doors. They operate by using a key that unlock a cylinder that then reveals pins which can be aligned to those inside the lock body, allow them to rotate the cam, thereby opening the door. Euro Cylinders can be fitted with up to six pins, with external and internal doors generally requiring different levels of security.

The choice of the correct cylinder is crucial; it is dependent on the way your door and handle are utilized. For example, external doors require an extra secure cylinder, while doors inside can be secured using a standard cylinder. Some cylinders have extra features that can improve security, for instance, anti-drill or anti-bump properties.

A euro cylinder must be properly measured to ensure that it is the right size for your door. The cylinder should be measured from the hole for fixing screws in the middle to each end of the cylinder including the thumb turn if you have one. It is recommended to do this while the lock is in place however, in the event that this is not possible, you may remove it to measure. A cylinder that is protruding beyond the handle and escutcheon could be vulnerable to attacks such as lock snapping, so it is crucial to make sure it's not too long.

The design of the latest cylinders comes with anti-drilling as well as bump resistance features. These are designed to reduce the chances of an attack by forcing the cylinder rotate in an opposite direction. This can to deflect attacks and protect your door.

There are cylinders constructed to withstand snapping. This is a common attack on cylinders. A special tool is used to break the break line of the lock and then the front of cylinder is snapped off. This is faster and less difficult than opening the door with a multipoint lock and leaves little evidence of a break-in which can impede an insurance claim.

Spring Cassette

This spring cassette is found within the base plate of the door handle. It provides a sprung solution to bring your multipoint lock handles to their original position after usage. The handles were previously equipped with no spring and would drop when the locking mechanism was removed. The addition of this simple element is among the most effective ways to fix this issue and is an effective way to keep your doors made of upvc from becoming stuck in the open or closed position, as they aren't always easy to close manually.

These spring cassettes are specially made for use with multipoint locks sprung, they will not fit multipoint handles that are not sprung and you will need to have a bespoke hole cut into your backplate to allow these to fit (please look at the image for a technical diagram). They are a replacement for broken or missing cassettes within the backplates of door handles of various kinds of uPVC doors. They are sold as a single unit. They have a square-cut out that accommodates an 8mm shaft.

These spring cassettes are a great value solution to the problem of door handles that are sagging. These spring cassettes are easy to install and will increase the lifespan of your uPVC door.
