Oral Allopurinol has a synergistic effect when used with intra-lesional sodium Stibogluconate and effectively reduces the treatment duration required for complete cure of cutaneous Leishmaniasis. Treatment duration was reduced by 3 weeks in the present study when combination therapy was given to the patients of cutaneous Leishmaniasis.
The microbiome which is developed at the time of infancy remains predominant and influences the health in childhood and then throughout life through moderating different gut metabolic activities This study was designed to look for the impact of feeding practices on the diversity of gut microbiota in infants in a Pakistani cohort.
A cross sectional study was carried out in 46 healthy infants [23breast-fed (BF) and 23 formula-fed (FF)], aged 0-4 months, enrolled from different centers and localities in Peshawar. Infants were screened to exclude any pathological or physiological condition that can vary the gut microbial flora such as gut surgeries and the use of antibiotics. Their stool samples were collected. DNA was extracted and subjected to next generation sequencing.
The results revealed that phylum Firmicutes was dominant in formula-fed infants (FF=25.4±22.7, BF=4.58±5.21), p=0.001. Similarly, Bacilli, Streptococcaceae, and Streptococcus were significantly higher in formula-fed infants. On the other hand, Selenomonadales and Streptococcus_salivarius were significantly higher in breast-fed infants with a p-value of 0.037 and 0.029 respectively when compared with formula fed infants.
The primary colonizer of the infant's gut is phylum Firmicutes, followed by Bacilli, Streptococcaceae, and Streptococcus in formula-fed infants and Selenomonadales and Streptococcus_salivarius in breast-fed infants.

Various treatment modalities have been used in treating femoral shaft fractures, i.e., open intramedullary nailing, plating and external fixators but these does not always produce stable fixation and there is increased risk of infection, closed locked intramedullary nailing technique has being the gold standard and is a routine procedure but it requires proper orthopedic operation table with traction apparatus and the use of image intensifier. The use of open interlocking nailing technique doesn't require any special orthopaedic table nor it requires use of Image intensifier. The objective of this study is to find out and determine the frequency of fracture union and wound infection in open reamed interlocking nailing of close fractures of shaft of femur.
This study included fifty-eight patients from either gender, above 14 years of age with closed femoral shaft fracture presenting within 2 weeks. Data was collected on Performa about gender, age, address, date of fracture, date of operation and discharge, tients.
The open interlocking nailing technique for close fractures shaft of femur without the use of image intensifier achieved excellent results in terms of fracture union. Danusertib obtained are mostly similar to the results of close interlocking nailing and it also requires less expertise, recourses and without the use of image intensifier.

Better quality of life (QOL) is associated with longer survival in cancer patients. This study evaluated the QOL and relationship between functioning and symptoms among female breast cancer patients before chemotherapy.
Cross-sectional study was conducted by including 74 participants attending a cancer clinic. European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer Quality of Life Questionnaire(s)-Core30 was applied for assessing QOL. It was composed of three domains namely global health status/QOL, functioning (includes five categories) and symptoms (includes nine categories). Pearson correlation and multiple linear regression were performed to find the relationship between functioning and symptoms in participants. The study was approved by Institutional Review Board of Defence Services Medical Research Centre, Myanmar with approval number IRB/2018/34.
Global health status/QOL score was fair (61.8±20.1). Among the five categories of functioning, cognitive functioning score (83.6±19.8) was the highest and role functioning score (66.4±29.3) was the lowest. Among symptoms, insomnia score (29.3±30.7) was the highest and diarrhoea score (0.9±5.4) was the lowest. When Pearson correlation was performed, functioning and symptoms were negatively correlated. Fatigue had significant (p<0.001) moderate negative correlation with physical functioning, role functioning and emotional functioning, whereas pain with role functioning (p<0.001). When linear regression was performed, nausea & vomiting was the strongest predictor for impaired global health status/QOL (p<0.05), while fatigue was the strongest predictor for impairment in all five categories of functioning (p<0.05).
Functioning and symptoms were negatively correlated in breast cancer patients. Nausea & vomiting and fatigue were the strongest predictors for impaired QOL.

Psychiatric co-morbidity is a frequent finding in patients with chronic liver disease (CLD). Patients with CLD may have anxiety, depression, sleep disturbances and behavioural disorders as well as cognitive defects. #link# Therefore, this study was designed to determine the frequency of major depression in patients diagnosed with chronic liver disease.
This descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted at the department of gastroenterology Ayub Teaching Hospital Abbottabad from January-July 2017. One hundred and eleven patients diagnosed with chronic liver disease were included in the study using consecutive non-probability sampling technique. A detailed medical history was taken and physical exam was conducted before the patients were asked to answer a questionnaire (HADS-D). The answers were marked to obtain a final score. Quantitative variables like age, HADS-D score, and duration of CLD were described in terms of mean and standard deviation. Categorical variables like gender and depression were described in terms of frequencies and percentages.
