We determined trends in life expectancy and cause-specific late mortality after autologous blood or marrow transplantation (BMT) performed over a 30-year period, using the BMT Survivor Study.

We constructed a cohort of 4,702 individuals with hematologic neoplasms who lived ≥ 2 years after autologous BMT performed between 1981 and 2014 at three transplant centers. The end of follow-up was April 19, 2021. The primary exposure variable was autologous BMT performed in four eras 1981-1999; 2000-2005; 2006-2010; and 2011-2014. Vital status and cause of death were obtained from National Death Index Plus program and Accurinct databases.

The median age at BMT was 53 years (range, 0-78 years), 58.7% were male, 67.8% were non-Hispanic White, and 28.3% had undergone transplantation between 2011 and 2014. Autologous BMT recipients experienced a 7-year reduction in life expectancy. The adjusted hazard of 5-year all-cause mortality declined over the four eras (reference 1981-1999; hazard ratio [HR]

Three-level meta-analysis, three-level meta-regression, and network meta-analyses were conducted on data from 46 cucumber (Cucumis sativus) CDM fungicide efficacy studies conducted in the eastern United States retrieved from Plant Disease Management Reports published between 2009 and 2018. Three response variables were examined in each analysis disease severity, marketable yield, and total yield, from which percent disease control and percent yield return compared with nontreated controls was calculated. Moderator variables used in the three-level meta-analysis or three-level meta-regression included year, disease pressure, number of fungicide applications, and slicing or pickling cucumbers. In the network meta-analysis, fungicides were grouped by common combinations of Fungicide Resistance Action Committee Codes and modes of action. Overall, fungicides significantly (P less then 0.001) reduced disease severity and increased marketable and total yields, resulting in a mean 54.0% disease control and 61.9% marketable and 73.3% total yield return. Subgroup differences were observed for several fungicide applications, control plot disease severity, and cucumber type for marketable yield. Based on the meta-regression analysis for disease severity by year, fungicide efficacy has been decreasing from 2009 to 2018, potentially indicating broad development of fungicide resistance over time. The use of plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria is an effective and environmentally friendly strategy for controlling diseases caused by P. cinnamomi. In this study, we investigated the antagonistic mechanism of Pseudomonas aurantiaca ST-TJ4 against P. cinnamomi through different antagonistic approaches, observations of mycelial morphology, study of mycelial metabolism, and identification of antagonistic substances. The results showed that Pseudomonas aurantiaca ST-TJ4 was able to significantly inhibit mycelial growth, causing mycelial deformation and disrupting internal cell structures. Additionally, pathogen cell membranes were damaged by ST-TJ4, and mycelial cell content synthesis was disrupted. Ultraperformance liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry analyses showed that phenazine compounds and 2-undecanone were the main antagonistic components. The ammonia produced by the ST-TJ4 strain also contributed to the inhibition of the growth of P. cinnamomi. In conclusion, our results confirm that Pseudomonas aurantiaca ST-TJ4 can inhibit P. cinnamomi through multiple mechanisms and can be used as a biological control agent for various plant diseases caused by P. cinnamomi.

The use of a standardized geriatric assessment (GA) to inform treatment decisions in older adults with cancer improves quality of life, reduces treatment-related toxicity, and is guideline-recommended. This study aimed to assess community oncologists' knowledge and utilization of GAs.

Between September 2019 and February 2020, practicing US-based oncologists were invited to attend live meetings and complete web-based surveys designed to collect information on treatment decision making and various practice-based challenges in oncology care.

Among the 349 oncologists surveyed, 74% practiced in a community setting. Sixty percent did not use a formal GA to inform treatment decisions for any of their older patients; the most common reasons for not using a GA were "Too cumbersome to incorporate into routine practice" (44%) and "Adds no value beyond the comprehensive history and physical exam" (36%). Validated GA instruments used in routine clinical practice included Mini-Mental State Exam (54%), Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment (23%), Cancer and Aging Research Group toxicity tool (12%), and Chemotherapy Risk Assessment Scale for High-Age Patients tool (9%). Nineteen percent of oncologists were not aware of any validated GA instruments. Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group performance status and comorbidities were the most frequently used assessment factors to inform treatment decisions (88% and 73%, respectively).

Many oncologists have not incorporated GA tools because of perceptions that GAs are difficult to implement or do not add any value. Increasing education of the benefits of GA-directed therapy could help to increase GA utilization among community oncologists.

It has been planted in Pingli County (109.35 E, 32.39 N), Ankang, Shaanxi province, China for a long history with more than 3000 ha per year. In April 2021, typical root-knot nematode disease symptoms, stunting and galled roots with massive egg masses, were observed on local G. pentaphyllum plants in several gardens. Meloidogyne females and egg masses were dissected from the infected roots. The female was spherical in body shape with a project neck; the excretory pore was at level of or posterior to stylet knobs, 10-20 annules behind head; the perineal pattern had a high dorsal arch, sometimes square or trapezoidal in shape, without obvious lateral lines. The male head was not offset with body, head cap was of stepped outline and concaved at center of top end in lateral view; stylet knobs were prominent, usually demarcated from shaft. Trin, a kind of grass weeds in paddy rice fields, has recently been developing rapidly as the most harmful weed for rice production in addition to Echinochloa crusgalli and Leptochloa chinensis in partial areas of Anhui, Jiangsu, and Zhejiang provinces (Zhou et al.). In September 2019, inflated sori in the ovaries of E. japonica were identified in fields in Chuzhou County, Anhui Province. The disease incidence was approximately 50% at the survey site. Smut sori were in some spikelets of infected inflorescence destroying the inner most floral organs. Sori were ovoid and initially covered with a thin peridium (Figure 1). The sori busted after maturation, and the black powdery spores spread to the plant and soil. The sori were crushed using the sterilized tweezers. The black powdery spores were suspended with sterilized water and spread onto potato dextrose agar (PDA) medium. Spores were covered with spines, and the shape of spores varied from globose to ovoid. Scanning electron micr inoculated for 2 weeks, and U. planetella was isolated and identified with the methods described above. No sori were observed in the water-inoculated control plants. U. planetella had been reported to infect Eragrostis japonica in Thailand (Vánky, 2007). To our knowledge, this is the first report of U. planetella causing Smut on E. japonica (Thunb.) Trin in central region of China. The current study may help solve the negative effect of E. read more japonica in paddy rice production via using U. planetella in the future.Cassava (Manihot esculenta) is one of the main food sources of energy in developing countries owing to its starch-rich roots (Pinweha et al., 2015). Anthracnose is considered the most destructive disease of the aerial part of this crop (Bragança et al., 2016; Liu et al., 2019), and it is caused by species such as Colletotrichum plurivorum, C. karstii, C. fructicola, C. siamense (Liu et al., 2019), and C. theobromicola (Oliveira et al, 2016). In 2019, leaves with irregular necrotic spots, typical symptoms of anthracnose, were collected in Pará, Brazil. Commercial sampled fields showed 20% of incidence of anthracnose. Colletotrichum strains were isolated and cultured on potato dextrose agar at 25 ºC with a 12-h light photoperiod from surface-disinfected (70% alcohol and 1% sodium hypochlorite) lesion transition area. Five of the obtained isolates exhibited brown colonies on the upper and lower surfaces. Conidia were hyaline, cylindrical and aseptate, 12.82-15.23 μm × 3.52-5.25 μm in size.
