Three self-collected vaginal swabs (VS) and a first-void urine (FVU) from 300 consented women were tested by Aptima MG (AMG), ResistancePlus MG (RPMG) and Seeplex STD6 ACE (STD6) for detection of MG. Aptima MG and STD6 MG positives were tested for MRM using MG 23S rRNA polymerase chain reaction with Sanger sequencing (23SMGSS) compared with MRM determination in the RPMG assay. Unique AMG positives were tested with confirmatory Aptima assays.

M. genitalium prevalence ranged from 7.1% to 19.7%, influenced by the assay used and the specimen tested. Overall agreements for MG detection were 96.3% (κ = 0.91) for VS and 93.3% (κ = 0.72) for FVU between AMG and RPMG with lower agreements with STD6. Using a rotating reference standard, sensitivities on VS and FVU were 100% and 100% for AMG, 100% and 83.3% for RPMG, and 54.2% and 48.4% for STD6. Specificities were high for RPMG and STD6 and AMG detected extra positives, most of which were confirmed. We aimed to (1) estimate the prevalence of HIV and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs) among female sex workers (FSWs) in Bamako, Mali, and (2) identify factors associated with STIs including HIV infection in this population.

We analyzed baseline data from a prospective observational cohort study on cervical cancer screening, human papillomavirus, and HIV infections among FSWs 18 years or older recruited in Bamako. Multivariable log-binomial regression was used to estimate the adjusted prevalence ratios (APRs) with 95% confidence interval (95% CI) for HIV infection and STIs versus associated factors.

Among 353 women participating in the study, mean age was 26.8 (±7.6) years. HIV prevalence was 20.4%, whereas 35.1% of the FSWs had at least one STI. Factors significantly associated with HIV were older age (P < 0.0001, test for trend), duration of sex work ≥6 years (APR, 1.92; 95% CI, 1.22-3.02), uneducated status (APR, 2.24; 95% CI, 1.16-4.34), less than 10 clients in the last 7 days (APR, 1.55; 95% CI, 1.02-2.34), and gonococcal (APR, 1.85; 95% CI, 1.21-2.82) and chlamydial (APR, 2.58; 95% CI, 1.44-4.62) infections. Younger age (P = 0.018, test for trend), having ≥10 clients in the last week (APR, 1.47; 95% CI, 1.11-1.94), and HIV infection (APR, 2.00; 95% CI, 1.49-2.69) were significantly associated with STIs.

To examine the impact of a single-capsule 17β-estradiol (E2)/progesterone (P4) on weight and blood pressure (BP) when treating moderate to severe vasomotor symptoms in postmenopausal women with a uterus.

Healthy postmenopausal women with a uterus (aged 40-65, body mass index ≤34 kg/m2, BP ≤140/90 mm Hg) were randomized to daily E2/P4 (mg/mg; 1/100, 0.5/100, 0.5/50, 0.25/50) or placebo in the phase 3 REPLENISH trial (NCT01942668). Changes in weight and BP from baseline to month 12 were evaluated. Potentially clinically important changes were defined as increases or decreases from baseline in weight by ≥15% and ≥11.3 kg, systolic BP by ≥20 mm Hg (absolute value ≥160 or ≤90 mm Hg), and diastolic BP by ≥15 mm Hg (absolute value ≥90 or ≤60 mm Hg).
