Bladder pain syndrome/interstitial cystitis (BPS/IC) is a refractory disease accompanied by bladder-related pain and hyperactivity. Studies have shown that the translocator protein (TSPO) modulates neuroinflammation and central sensitisation associated with pain. Moreover, we previously demonstrated that brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) regulates neuroinflammation and mechanical allodynia in cyclophosphamide (CYP)-induced cystitis through activation of glial cells. Here, we aimed to explore whether activation of TSPO attenuates mechanical allodynia and bladder dysfunction by regulating BDNF induced neuroinflammation in a CYP-induced cystitis model.

Injection of CYP was performed to form a rat model of BPS/IC. The expression of TSPO was regulated by intrathecal injection of the TSPO agonist Ro5-4864. The von Frey filament test was applied to evaluate suprapubic allodynia. Bladder function was assessed using filling cystometry. Western blotting was used to detect the expression of TSPO, BDNF, GFAP, stitial cystitis.

The objective of this study is to assess the risk-stratified 10-year socio-economic burden of renal cell carcinoma (RCC) follow-up costs after initial treatment in Germany from 2000 to 2020.

A micro-costing method considering direct and indirect medical expenditure associated with follow-up procedures was employed to calculate survivorship costs per patient. The frequencies of physician-patient visits, examinations and diagnostic tests were extracted from guidelines, whilst expenses were sourced from literature and official scales of tariffs. Societal costs were calculated based on three perspectives patients, providers and insurers.

Mean societal 10-year follow-up costs per patient amounted to EUR 3,377 (95%CI 2,969-3,791) for low-risk, EUR 3,367 (95%CI 3,003-3,692) for medium-risk and EUR 4,299 (95%CI 3,807-4,755) for high-risk RCC in 2020. Spending increased by +32% from 2000 to 2020 for low-risk RCC, whilst medium-and high-risk RCC expenditure was cut by -39% and -22%, respectively. Patients shouldered 27%, providers 43% and insurers 35% of costs in 2020. Resources were consumed by medical imaging (52%), physician-patient consultations (31%), travel expenses (17%) and blood tests (1%).

Nationally representative reports on the characteristics and long-term survival of pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) from developing countries are scarce. The applicability of the current main risk stratifications and the longitudinal changes in goal-oriented treatments have yet to be elucidated in real-world settings. Therefore, we aimed to provide insights into the characteristics, goal-oriented treatments and survival of PAH in China and to explore the applicability of the main risk stratifications in our independent cohort.

PAH patients were consecutively enrolled from a national prospective multicentre registry. Data on baseline, follow-up re-evaluation and therapeutic changes were collected.

A total of 2031 patients were enrolled, with congenital heart disease (CHD)-PAH (45.2%) being the most common aetiology. The mean age was 35 ± 12 years, and 76.2% were females. At baseline, approximately 20% of the patients with intermediate or high risk received combination treatment. At follow-up, approxat follow-up, indicating more aggressive treatment should be implemented to optimize the goal-oriented treatment strategy.

This study aimed to evaluate the oleoylethanolamide (OEA) effects on oxidative stress and inflammatory factors in girls with primary dysmenorrhea.

This double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial was done on population consisted of female students who had dysmenorrhea pain based on the visual analogue scale (VAS) questionnaire. Patients were randomly allocated to groups consuming a capsule containing 125 mg of OEA per day (n=22) or placebo (n=22) for 2 months. The severity of the pain, total antioxidant capacity (TAC), malondialdehyde (MDA), C-reactive protein (CRP), and tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α) were measured at the beginning and the end of the study. In this study, SPSS software was used to analyze the data.

According to the results, oral supplementation with OEA for 60 days significantly increased TAC (p=0.022) and decreased the menstrual pain (p=0.040), MDA (p=0.011), CRP (p=0.01), and TNF-α (p=0.038) compared to the placebo group. Also, intragroup changes were statistically significant on the mean of pain (p=0.042), TAC (p=0.032), MDA (p=0.023), CRP (p=0.027), and TNF-α (p=0.029) at the end of the study in the intervention group. Changes in the studied factors at the end of the study compared to the beginning of the study in the placebo group were not statistically significant.

Effective nurse leaders not only need to have strong leadership and management skills but also strong business acumen to navigate the complexity of the system.

A scoping review of research was undertaken, using preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analyses (PRISMA) scoping extension checklist, with 571 studies found across multiple databases, 17 meeting final review eligibility.

Findings were noted surrounding three themes the value of business acumen in nursing, the gaining of business acumen in health care as a nursing leader and the utilizing business acumen as a nurse leader in the health care industry.

While nursing leadership and management were well researched, limited studies covered the specific focus of business acumen in health care for nurses or broader clinicians.

While evidence points towards business acumen being important for health care leaders in balancing care and cost, inadequate research limits the recognition of these professional capabilities of nurse leaders.
