01). Ocular involvement was seen in 94% of the patients with CNS involvement. Cases with bilateral involvement (P = 0.01), pediatric age group (P = 0.01) and CNS involvement (P = 0.02) had poor visual outcome.

Rickettsioses patients can have ocular manifestations with predominant posterior segment involvement during acute phase of illness. Ocular involvement was more common in the double antigen group. For any patient who presents with fever and rash living in endemic area, ophthalmic evaluation should be part of routine checkup during the acute phase of illness associated with less frequent ocular symptoms.

The aim of this work was to study the clinical presentation, management and outcomes of orbital and adnexal amyloidosis.

This retrospective analysis included all the patients diagnosed with orbital and adnexal amyloidosis between January 1990 and December 2019. Positive staining with Congo Red and apple-green birefringence on polarized light microscopy established the diagnosis. Data analyzed included demographic profile, varied presentations, management, and outcome.

Thirty-three eyes of 26 patients were included. The malefemale ratio was 11. The mean age of the study population was 42.6 ± 16 years. selleck products The median duration of symptoms was two years. Unilateral involvement was seen in 19 eyes (right = 11, left = 8). The most common presenting feature was acquired ptosis. Eyelid was the most commonly affected site followed by orbit and conjunctiva. Two patients had systemic involvement in the form of multiple myeloma and lymphoplasmacytic lymphoma. Complete excision was done in seven (26.9%) cases while 19 (73.1%) cases underwent debulking. Three patients underwent ptosis surgery. The median duration of follow-up was 1.5 years. Three cases had recurrence and underwent repeat surgery.

Orbit and adnexa is a rare site for amyloidosis. It is usually localized; however it can occur as a part of systemic amyloidosis. Eyelid is the most common site of involvement and patients usually present as eyelid mass or ptosis. Complete excision is difficult and most of the patients usually undergo debulking surgery. All patients should undergo screening for systemic amyloidosis.

To study topical timolol (0.5%) as a first-line treatment in ophthalmic pyogenic granuloma (PG) in terms of safety and efficacy.

This was a prospective, interventional, single-arm study conducted at a tertiary eye care hospital in central India. Only new cases of PG were counseled to get enrolled in the study. A total of 40 patients were analyzed in the study. Topical timolol eye drop (0.5%) was started in each patient twice daily for 4-6 weeks duration. The patients were divided into five categories according to the percentage reduction in the size of PG as follows i) 80-100% reduction - excellent responders, ii) 60-80% - good, iii) 40-60% - satisfactory, iv) 20-40% - poor, and v) <20% - very poor/nonresponder. After 6 months of starting treatment final evaluation was done.

The mean age of the patients was 23.5 ± 13.3 years. Etiology of the disease included chalazion (n = 11, 27.5%), trauma (n = 2, 5%), surgery (n = 7, 17.5%), foreign body (n = 2, 5%), and idiopathic (n = 18, 45%). An excellent response was achieved in 31 (77.5%) patients. Twenty-seven (67.5%) patients had complete resolution of lesions within 6 weeks. Recurrence of the lesion was not noticed in any patients.

Timolol 0.5% in topical form is a good treatment option for ophthalmic PG in all age groups. The treatment has no adverse effects when given to suitable individuals for a limited period.

Ocular suspensory ligament is an important part of the lower eyelid retractors. However, there is a scarcity of studies examining detailed en-block histologies of ocular suspensory ligaments.

In this study, we included the cadavers of Chinese adults as subjects. These cadavers of Chinese adults were processed using P45 plastination techniques. The polymer resulted in transparent plastination, and the P45 sheet-plastinated sections of the lower eyelid were observed. The gross anatomy results of three Chinese adult heads (six hemifaces) were included as gross dissection data. All photographic documentation was performed via a Canon EOS 7D Mark camera.

The results showed that the inferior rectus muscle, inferior oblique muscle, ocular suspensory ligament, and its arcuate expansion are under the eyeball. The medial and lateral parts of the ocular suspensory ligament end at the medial and lateral canthal ligament. The middle part, a hammock-like shape, is slightly lower. The ocular suspensory ligament holds up the inferior oblique muscle, inferior rectus muscle, and the eyeball. As the inferior oblique muscle passes through the sheath of the inferior rectus, the fascia is thickened, forming the ocular suspensory ligament. The ocular suspensory ligament connects to the intermuscular septum, the inferior tarsal muscle, and the medial and lateral check ligaments.

This study observed the ocular suspensory ligament and arcuate expansion through P45 sheet plastination for the first time and identified the distribution of the lower eyelid ligaments, thus laying the foundation for further research.

The aim of this study was to describe epidemiological and clinical characteristics of pediatric ocular motor cranial nerve palsy.

This was a retrospective record-based study, carried out at a tertiary eye care hospital in India, between January 2011 and January 2015 and included patients up to 16 years of age at the time of presentation, diagnosed with third, fourth, sixth nerve palsy or a combination of these with other cranial nerve palsy. Data analyzed included demographic details, etiologies, presence or absence of amblyopia, relevant investigations, and management.

A total of 90 cases were included in the study. Eighty patients (88.88%) presented with isolated nerve palsy. Forty-three patients (47.77%) had congenital nerve palsy. The most common nerve involved was third (n = 35, 38.88%) followed by sixth (n = 23, 25.55%) and fourth nerve (n = 22, 24.44%). Most common cause of third and fourth cranial nerve palsy was congenital (n = 18, 51.42% and n = 17, 77.30%, respectively), while it was trauma for the sixth nerve (n = 7, 30.40%). Amblyopia was most frequently associated with third cranial nerve palsy (n = 27, 77.14%). The radio-imaging yield was maximum (n = 7, 70%) for combined cranial nerve palsy. Overall 44 (48.88%) patients were managed conservatively, while 46 (51.11%) patients needed squint with or without ptosis surgery.

The most common ocular motor cranial nerve involved in the pediatric population was the third cranial nerve, and it was found to be the most amblyogenic in this age group. The neuroimaging yield was maximum for combined cranial nerve palsy. The most common conservatively managed nerve palsy in this study group was the fourth nerve palsy.

Patients with glaucoma undergoing trabeculectomy develop bleb cicatrix causing poor postoperative intraocular pressure (IOP) control and low success rates. Several approaches have been explored over the years for better outcomes. This study assesses the safety, efficacy, and outcome of trabeculectomy with HealaFlow

(Anteis S. A, Geneva, Switzerland), a high-molecular-weight cross-linked hyaluronic acid viscoelastic gel, and comparing it with the antimetabolite Mitomycin-C (MMC).

A prospective, interventional, case-controlled study conducted at a tertiary care hospital in Southern India on 60 eyes of patients requiring trabeculectomy divided in two groups - HealaFlow scleral implant and adjuvant low-dose MMC (0.1 mg/mL). Postoperative IOP reduction along with bleb morphology was assessed over follow-up at 1 week, 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, and 12 months.

Preoperatively IOP in the two groups was statistically similar. Postoperative IOP on day 1 had statistically significant reduction in both groups with greater reduction in MMC group. However, by 12 months, the IOP reduction was statistically similar in both groups, i.e., 46.24% (to 11.04 ± 2.55 mmHg) and 54.47% (to 11.99 ± 3.37 mmHg) in HealaFlow

group and MMC group, respectively (P > 0.05). The bleb morphologies were similar and complications were seen equally, which resolved by 4 weeks. A complete success rate of 89.29% and a qualified success rate of 10.71% were observed equally in both groups.

Absorbable biosynthetic cross-linked hyaluronic acid and low-dose MMC are equally safe and efficacious in trabeculectomy with significant IOP reduction and good bleb morphology. Therefore, it is a novel substitute for MMC.

Evaluation of circumpapillary vessel density (VD) and perfusion density (PD) on optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTa) in mild-moderate glaucoma patients having unilateral visual field defects, with their fellow eyes and controls.

Both eyes of 24 patients having a definitive nasal step or arcuate scotoma in one hemisphere of one eye only, and 24 controls, underwent OCTa.

In eyes with a superior field defect, the superior/inferior quadrant ratios, (SQ/IQ) of 3 mm scan of VD and PD were significantly higher in eyes with a superior arcuate scotoma than fellow eyes (P = 0.03,0.02) as also controls, (P = 0.004,0.001). The mean percentage loss of inferior quadrant VD between control to fellow eyes, and superior nasal step eyes were similar, 20.19%/19.57% respectively, P = 0.85, while a loss in arcuate scotoma eyes was 38.81% (P = 0.001). The percentage decrease in inferior quadrant PD in fellow eyes was 14.70%, superior nasal step 23.39%, and an arcuate scotoma 34.74% (P = 0.02). Eyes with a superior nasal step had significantly lower VD and PD absolute values in the inferior quadrant OCTa in 3 mm and 6 mm circle scan only as compared to control eyes, VD, P = 0.
