To mimic a hypothetical pathway for protein evolution, we previously tailored a monomeric protein (cyt cb562 ) for metal-mediated self-assembly, followed by re-design of the resulting oligomers for enhanced stability and metal-based functions. We show that a single hydrophobic mutation on the cyt cb562 surface drastically alters the outcome of metal-directed oligomerization to yield a new trimeric architecture, (TriCyt1)3. This nascent trimer was redesigned into second and third-generation variants (TriCyt2)3 and (TriCyt3)3 with increased structural stability and preorganization for metal coordination. The three TriCyt variants combined furnish a unique platform to 1) provide tunable coupling between protein quaternary structure and metal coordination, 2) enable the construction of metal/pH-switchable protein oligomerization motifs, and 3) generate a robust metal coordination site that can coordinate all mid-to-late first-row transition-metal ions with high affinity.
To analyze the use of serum cancer antigen 19-9 (CA19-9), cancer antigen 125 (CA-125) and carcinoembryogenic antigen (CEA) in predicting the malignant potential of mucinous ovarian tumor, and to assess the clinical factors associated with these tumors.
This retrospective study collected the data from 314 patients who were diagnosed with mucinous ovarian tumor. These patients had preoperative serum CA19-9, CA-125, CEA available and underwent surgery at Ramathibodi Hospital between January 2010 and December 2016. The diagnostic performance of CA19-9, CA-125 and CEA was analyzed using the receiver operator characteristic curve. The associations between clinicopathological factors and serum CA19-9, CA-125 and CEA level were also analyzed.
A total of 314 patients were recruited in this study. They consisted of 221 patients with benign mucinous ovarian tumor (70.38%), 65 patients with borderline mucinous ovarian tumor (20.70%) and 28 patients with mucinous ovarian carcinoma (8.92%). However, the construction of 2D chiral nanopatterns through polymer self-assembly is a challenge. Reported herein is the formation of chiral stripe nanopatterns through surface self-assembly of polypeptide-based rod-coil block copolymers on microstripes. The nanostripes align oblique to the boundary of the microstripes, resulting in the chirality of the nanopatterns. The chirality of the nanopatterns is closely related to the width of the microstripes, i.e., a narrower width results in higher chirality. Besides, the chiral sense of the nanopatterns can be regulated by the chirality of the polypeptide blocks. This work demonstrates the transmission of chirality from polymer to nanoarchitecture on a confined surface, which can guide the preparation of nanopatterns with tuned chiral features.Zika virus was first identified in Uganda in 1947 but received little attention until 2015 when a large outbreak of Zika virus illness followed by an increased number of babies born with microcephaly occurred in Brazil. Although postnatal Zika virus infection typically causes mild or no symptoms, effects on infants born to prenatally infected mothers can be severe and include structural birth defects and neurodevelopmental effects. The risk of a structural birth defect among infants born to mothers with confirmed or suspected Zika virus infection during pregnancy has ranged from 5 to 10%. The timing of Zika infection during pregnancy affects risk, with higher risks with the first-trimester infection. Neurodevelopmental effects are seen even in infants who appear normal in the newborn period. Different treatment modalities (ENT surgery, CPAP, and non-invasive ventilation) can be applied to successfully treat these conditions.Golden bristlegrass-like unique nanostructures comprising reduced graphene oxide (rGO) matrixed nanofibers entangled with bamboo-like N-doped carbon nanotubes (CNTs) containing CoSe2 nanocrystals at each node (denoted as N-CNT/rGO/CoSe2 NF) are designed as anodes for high-rate sodium-ion batteries (SIBs). Bamboo-like N-doped CNTs (N-CNTs) are successfully generated on the rGO matrixed nanofiber surface, between rGO sheets and mesopores, and interconnected chemically with homogeneously distributed rGO sheets. The defects in the N-CNTs formed by a simple etching process allow the complete phase conversion of Co into CoSe2 through the efficient penetration of H2 Se gas inside the CNT walls. The N-CNTs bridge the vertical defects for electron transfer in the rGO sheet layers and increase the distance between the rGO sheets during cycles. The discharge capacity of N-CNT/rGO/CoSe2 NF after the 10 000th cycle at an extremely high current density of 10 A g-1 is 264 mA h g-1 , and the capacity retention measured at the 100th cycle is 89%.
