Paragangliomas are uncommon neuroendocrine neoplasms that occur in characteristic locations. While parasympathetic paragangliomas are mainly located at the head and neck, sympathetic paragangliomas are mostly located below the neck. Among parasympathetic paragangliomas, pheochromocytomas are the most common. Ninety percent of cases of pheochromocytomas arise within the adrenal gland. We report a case of a 63-year-old woman with an extra-adrenal pheochromocytoma of the organ of Zuckerkandl detected by CT and MRI and subsequently confirmed by postoperative histology and immunohistochemistry.Chiari 1 Malformation in children is defined as 6 mm or more caudal extension of cerebellar tonsils below the foramen magnum. It is one of the deformities in the spectrum of craniovertebral junction anomalies. We report an unusual case of newborn girl with hypoplasia of bassiocciput of the clivus and extension of brainstem into the oropharynx, in addition to extension of cerebellar tonsils below the foramen magnum. Right anterior arch and right posterior arch of C1 vertebra are absent. Dens of C2 vertebra is asymmetric. Laryngoscope showed a membrane covering the brainstem in the oropharynx. selleck inhibitor Endotracheal and orogastric tubes were placed. A ventriculo-peritoneal shunt was placed for hydrocephalus. The patient was discharged home at 4.5 months of age with home Hospice care. To the best of our knowledge, this has not been described in the literature. The case illustrates a rare defect in the clivus and unusual protrusion of brainstem into oropharynx.Subarachnoid fat is an uncommon finding that has several etiologies. It is important to determine the etiology in order to plan appropriate treatment. We present a case report of an 80-year-old female brought to the emergency department after a fall with complaints of headache and pain in the sacral region. Computed tomography and magnetic resonance images of the head demonstrated fat in the subarachnoid space. Computed tomography and magnetic resonance images of the sacrum demonstrated a Tarlov cyst with a sacral fracture extending into the cyst, likely representing the origin of the fat in the subarachnoid space. This case demonstrates a rare etiology of fat in the subarachnoid space.

The COVID-19 pandemic has presented an unprecedented strain on healthcare supplies. Currently there is a global shortage of personal protective equipment (PPE), especially N95 masks. In order to safeguard healthcare personnel in this critical time and to mitigate shortages of N95 respirators, reuse of N95 respirators has to be considered.

Using PubMed and Science Direct, a literature search was conducted to find and synthesize relevant literature on decontamination of N95 respirators for their subsequent reuse. Peer-reviewed publications related to methods of decontamination from January 2007 to April 2020 in the English language are included in this narrative review. Bibliographies of articles for relevant literature were also scrutinized.

. A total of 19 studies are included in this narrative review. The appraised methods include ultraviolet germicidal irradiation (UVGI), moist heat incubation (MHI), ethylene oxide (EtO), hydrogen peroxide vapor (HPV), microwave steam bags (MSB), microwave-generated s damage N95 respirators.COVID-19 is a new viral emergent disease caused by a novel strain of coronavirus. This virus has caused a huge problem in the world as millions of people are affected by this disease. We aimed at designing a peptide vaccine for COVID-19 particularly for the envelope protein using computational methods to predict epitopes inducing the immune system. The envelope protein sequence of SARS-CoV-2 has been retrieved from the NCBI database. The bioinformatics analysis was carried out by using the Immune Epitope Database (IEDB) to predict B- and T-cell epitopes. link2 The predicted HTL and CTL epitopes were docked with HLA alleles and binding energies were evaluated. The allergenicity of predicted epitopes was analyzed, the conservancy analysis was performed, and the population coverage was determined throughout the world. Some overlapped CTL, HTL, and B-cell epitopes were suggested to become a universal candidate for peptide-based vaccine against COVID-19. This vaccine peptide could simultaneously elicit humoral and cell-mediated immune responses. We hope to confirm our findings by adding complementary steps of both in vitro and in vivo studies to support this new universal predicted candidate. The purpose of the present review was to survey the available literature on computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM)-produced resin composite materials to provide clinicians with a current overview of the key components necessary for daily clinical use. An electronic search was conducted in the PubMed database. Peer-reviewed articles in English language on the use of resin composites in CAD/CAM dental crowns were included. A total of 122 full-text articles were identified, 15 of which were selected during the initial review. Two additional articles were also discovered through a manual search, to obtain a final total of 17 articles included in the present review. Of these, 16 were to in vitro studies, and one was an in vivo study. Findings from the in vitro studies indicate that resin composite block materials for CAD/CAM applications demonstrate excellent physical properties and are appropriate for the clinical restoration of premolars and molars. However, the in vivo study reported a low 3-year success rate, but high survival rate for resin composite CAD/CAM crowns placed in the premolar region. The key to ensuring the successful prognosis of a resin composite CAD/CAM crown is to ensure that all steps-such as proper case selection, abutment tooth preparation, occlusal adjustment, and bonding-are accurately performed.

The overall survival of patients with recurrent glioblastoma (rGBM) is quite different, so clinical outcome prediction is necessary to guide personalized clinical treatment for patients with rGBM. The expression level of lncRNA

was analyzed to determine its prognostic value in rGBMs.

We collected 109 samples of Chinese Glioma Genome Atlas (CGGA) RNA sequencing dataset and divided into training set and validation set. Then, we analyzed the expression of

, clinical characteristics, and overall survival (OS) information. Kaplan-Meier survival analysis was used to estimate the OS distributions. The prognostic value of

in rGBMs was tested by univariate and multivariate Cox regression analyses. Moreover, we analyzed the biological processes and signaling pathways of

.

We found that

was upregulated in rGBMs (

= 0.0009). The expression of

increased with the grades of gliomas (

< 0.0001). The OS of rGBMs in the low-expression group was significantly longer than that in the high-expression group (

= 0.0041). Similar result was found in the training set (

= 0.0340) and verified in the validation set (

= 0.0292). In multivariate Cox regression analysis,

was identified to be an independent prognostic factor for rGBMs (

= 0.003). Biological process and KEGG pathway analyses implied

To investigate the expression profiles of long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF).

The peripheral blood monocytes of a total of 20 patients with AF and 20 healthy subjects were collected for gene chip technology to detect differentially expressed lncRNAs from 2017.01 to 2017.08. Reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) was applied for further verification. Gene Ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) analyses were performed to identify the functions of differentially expressed genes and related pathways.

There were 19 lncRNAs differentially expressed (FC ≥ 2,

< 0.05), of which 6 were upregulated and 13 were downregulated. Two of three upregulated lncRNAs (

= 0.014 and 0.006 for HNRNPU-AS1 and LINC00861, respectively) and two of three downregulated lncRNAs (

= 0.028 and 0.032 for RP11-443B7.3 and CTD-2616J11.14, respectively) were randomly confirmed by RT-PCR and showed a significantly different expression with the RNA-seqo the pathogenesis of AF, which provide experimental basis and new therapeutic target for prognosis and treatment of patients with AF. HNRNPU-AS1 may play an important role in the pathophysiology and mechanisms of AF.

The expression of lncRNA in peripheral blood of AF patients is different from that of normal people. The physiological functions of these differentially expressed lncRNAs may be related to the pathogenesis of AF, which provide experimental basis and new therapeutic target for prognosis and treatment of patients with AF. HNRNPU-AS1 may play an important role in the pathophysiology and mechanisms of AF.

Vitamin D deficiency can lead to the increased severity and prevalence of metabolic disorders. However, the relationship between levels of 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH)D) and peripheral arterial disease (PAD) is controversial. Therefore, the purpose of our study was to explore the relationship between 25(OH)D levels and PAD in middle-aged and elderly type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients in China.

In this study, a total of 183 patients with T2DM were enrolled and categorized into groups with or without PAD. Clinical and biochemical parameters were assessed, and a Pearson analysis was used to identify a possible association between levels of 25(OH)D and glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c). Some biochemical parameters were also assessed in the T2DM patients with PAD according to vitamin D status. Interactions were also explored among HbA1c control, 25(OH)D levels, and PAD. The possible risk factors for PAD were measured by multivariable logistic regression analyses.

Firstly, the parameters including age, HbA1c, vitamin D level is not related to PAD, but HbA1c may be linked to the presence of PAD in middle-aged and elderly patients with T2DM in China.Glioma is defined as a common brain tumor which causes severe disability or death. As many genes are reported to relate with glioma's occurrence and development, their prognostic and therapeutic value still remains uncertain. This study aimed at investigating the association between STAT3/p-STAT3 and glioma prognosis. Nine studies (12 trials) scored ≥5 on the Newcastle-Ottawa scale were meta-analysed from the Medline, Embase, and Web of Science databases. We found that STAT3/p-STAT3 overexpression in glioma patients was associated with worse overall survival (hazard  ratio  (HR) = 1.40, 95%confidence  interval  (CI) = 1.05 ~ 1.86, P = 0.020), progression-free survival (HR = 2.05, 95%CI = 1.63 ~ 2.58, P less then 0.001), and better recurrence-free survival (HR = 0.37, 95%CI = 0.15 ~ 0.95, P less then 0.039). link3 Subgroup analysis implied that STAT3/p-STAT3 overexpression was associated with worse OS in standard treatment (HR = 1.80, 95%CI = 1.06 ~ 3.04, P = 0.030), and in China (HR = 2.18, 95%CI = 1.77 ~ 2.70, P less then 0.
