We present a systematic investigation of the structure and dynamic properties of model soft-hard colloidal mixtures. Results of a coarse-grained theoretical model are contrasted with rheological data, where the soft and hard colloids are mimicked by large star polymers with high functionality as the soft component and smaller stars with ultrahigh functionality as the hard one. Previous work by us revealed the recovery of the ergodicity of glassy soft star solutions and subsequent arrested phase separation and re-entrant solid transition upon progressive addition of small hard depletants. Here, we use different components to show that a small variation in softness has a significant impact on the state diagram of such mixtures. In particular, we establish that rendering the soft component more penetrable and modifying the size ratio bring about a remarkable shift in both the phase separation region and the glass-melting line so that the region of restored ergodicity can be notably enhanced and extended to much higher star polymer concentrations than for pure systems. We further rationalize our findings by analyzing the features of the depletion interaction induced by the smaller component that result from the interplay between the size ratio and the softness of the large component. These results demonstrate the great sensitivity of the phase behavior of entropic mixtures to small changes in the molecular architecture of the soft stars and point to the importance of accounting for details of the internal microstructure of soft colloidal particles for tailoring the flow properties of soft composites.Self-learning hybrid Monte Carlo (SLHMC) is a first-principles simulation that allows for exact ensemble generation on potential energy surfaces based on density functional theory. The statistical sampling can be accelerated with the assistance of smart trial moves by machine learning potentials. In the first report [Nagai et al., Phys. Rev. B 102, 041124(R) (2020)], the SLHMC approach was introduced for the simplest case of canonical sampling. We herein extend this idea to isothermal-isobaric ensembles to enable general applications for soft materials and liquids with large volume fluctuation. As a demonstration, the isothermal-isobaric SLHMC method was used to study the vibrational structure of liquid silica at temperatures close to the melting point, whereby the slow diffusive motion is beyond the time scale of first-principles molecular dynamics. It was found that the static structure factor thus computed from first-principles agrees quite well with the high-energy x-ray data.Funneling dynamics in conjugated dendrimers has raised great interest in the context of artificial light-harvesting processes. Photoinduced relaxation has been explored by time-resolved spectroscopy and simulations, mainly by semiclassical approaches or referring to open quantum systems methods, within the Redfield approximation. Here, we take the benefit of an ab initio investigation of a phenylacetylene trimer, and in the spirit of a divide-and-conquer approach, we focus on the early dynamics of the hierarchy of interactions. We build a simplified but realistic model by retaining only bright electronic states and selecting the vibrational domain expected to play the dominant role for timescales shorter than 500 fs. We specifically analyze the role of the in-plane high-frequency skeletal vibrational modes involving the triple bonds. Open quantum system non-adiabatic dynamics involving conical intersections is conducted by separating the electronic subsystem from the high-frequency tuning and coupling vibrational baths. This partition is implemented within a robust non-perturbative and non-Markovian method, here the hierarchical equations of motion. We will more precisely analyze the coherent preparation of donor states or of their superposition by short laser pulses with different polarizations. In particular, we extend the π-pulse strategy for the creation of a superposition to a V-type system. HC-030031 in vitro We study the relaxation induced by the high-frequency vibrational collective modes and the transitory dissymmetry, which results from the creation of a superposition of electronic donor states. In this article, several optimization methods of two-electron repulsion integral calculations on a graphic processing unit (GPU) are presented. These methods are based on the investigations of the method presented by McMurchie and Davidson (MD). A new Boys function evaluation method for the GPU calculation is introduced. The series summation, the error function, and the finite sum formula method are combined; thus, good performance on the GPU can be achieved. By taking some theoretical study of the McMurchie-Davidson recurrence relations, three major optimization approaches are derived from the deduction of the general term formula for the Hermite expansion coefficient. The three approaches contain a new form of the Hermite expansion coefficients with corresponding recurrence relations, which is more efficient for one-electron integrals and [ss|∗∗] or [∗∗|ss] type two-electron integrals. In addition, a simple yet efficient new recurrence formula for the coefficient evaluation is derived, which is more efficient both in float operations and memory operations than its original one. In average, the new recurrence relation can save 26% float operations and 37% memory operations. Finally, a common sub-expression elimination (CSE) method is implemented. This CSE method is directly generated from some equalities we discovered from the general term formula other than by computer algebra system software. This optimized method achieved up to 3.09 speedups compared to the original MD method on the GPU and up to 92.75 speedups compared to the GAMESS calculation on the central processing unit. The intermolecular interactions responsible for the microsolvation of the highly flexible trimethylene oxide (TMO) and trimethylene sulfide (TMS) rings with one and two water (w) molecules were investigated using rotational spectroscopy (8-22 GHz) and quantum chemical calculations. The observed patterns of transitions are consistent with the most stable geometries of the TMO-w, TMO-(w)2, and TMS-w complexes at the B2PLYP-D3(BJ)/aug-cc-pVTZ level and were confirmed using spectra of the 18O isotopologue. Due to its effectively planar backbone, TMO offers one unique binding site for solvation, while water can bind to the puckered TMS ring in either an axial or equatorial site of the heteroatom. In all clusters, the first water molecule binds in the σv symmetry plane of the ring monomer and serves as a hydrogen bond donor to the heteroatom. The second water molecule is predicted to form a cooperative hydrogen bonding network between the three moieties. Secondary C-H⋯O interactions are a key stabilizing influence in trimers and also drive the preferred binding site in the TMS clusters with the axial binding site preferred in TMS-w and the equatorial form calculated to be more stable in the dihydrate.
