Our objective was to systematically investigate this natural history of RPA and address the current rational for its treatment. METHODS The follow-up data of two nationwide series of PA was pooled with a focus on risk of MT and analyzed against the literature. RESULTS The combined nationwide data (n = 9003 PA patients) showed 3.1% with first recurrence of which 6.2% were malignant. In the literature first RPA rate was >7% at 20 years follow-up. MT occurred in 0% to 7%, and facial nerve damage increased from with each surgery 3% to 16% at first RPA to 18% to 30% at second RPA. CONCLUSIONS RPA showed a characteristic course with surgery being unreliable and damage to the facial nerve. The risk of MT was low. This might give flexibility towards a more conservative approach of management. © 2020 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.AIM This study aims to determine whether there is a relationship between compulsory citizenship behaviors and job stress among nurses working at public hospitals. BACKGROUND Nurses may face strong pressure form their managers or peers to perform role behaviors beyond what is found in their job definition. When mandated these extra duties are called compulsory citizenship behaviors. METHOD This descriptive study included 569 nurses who work in three hospitals. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistical analyses, linearity test, Pearson's correlation analysis, simple linear regression analysis, parametric and nonparametric tests. RESULTS There was a significant, strong and positive relationship between the nurses' job stress and compulsory citizenship behaviors. Statistically significant differences were found between the nurses' job stress scores according to the institution and unit they worked in and their professional experience duration. CONCLUSION This study found that nurses display compulsory citizenship behaviors, experience job stress at a high level. A significant relationship was found between these two variables. IMPLICATIONS FOR NURSING MANAGEMENT Special training programs should be held for informing managers and nurses about the negative outcomes of compulsory citizenship behaviors and positive outcomes of organizational citizenship behaviors. Appropriate opportunities and resources should be provided to cope with stress in hospital settings. This article is protected by copyright. The objectives of this study were to investigate the effects of three MPs (membranous polyethylene (PE), fibrous polypropylene (PP), and microsphere PP) on enzyme activities and microbial community structure in one loamy and sandy soil. The concentration of microsphere PP (2 mg g-1 ) was one-tenth of those of the other two MPs (20 mg g-1 ). The results showed that the effects of three MPs on urease, dehydrogenase and alkaline phosphatase activities followed the order fibrous PP > membranous PE > microsphere PP, membranous PE > microsphere PP > fibrous PP and fibrous PP > microsphere PP > membranous PE, respectively. Results from high-throughput sequencing of 16S rRNA revealed that the membranous PE and fibrous PP raised the alpha-diversities of the soil microbiota, whereas the diversity indexes of microbiota on MPs surfaces were significantly lower than those in the amended soils. MPs significantly altered the microbial community structure, especially for the enrichment of Acidobacteria and Bacteroidetes, the depletion of Deinococcus-Thermus and Chloroflexi. Aeromicrobium, Streptomyces, Mycobacterium, Janibacter, Nocardia, Arthrobacter were prone to inhabit on the MPs surfaces. This article is protected by copyright. A "champagne tap" colloquially refers to a lumbar puncture (LP) with no cerebrospinal (CSF) red blood cells (RBCs), which appears colorless (reminiscent of its clear bubbly namesake) and signifies a technically perfect procedure. In consideration of pore structures, the correlation between the pore volume and hydrogen storage capacity is examined and two empirical equations are rationalized to predict the hydrogen storage capacity of MOFs with different pore geometries. The total hydrogen adsorption under 100 bar and 77 K is predicted as ntot = 0.085× Vp - 0.013× Vp 2 for cage-type MOFs and ntot = 0.076× Vp - 0.011× Vp 2 for channel-type MOFs, where Vp is the pore volume of corresponding MOFs. The predictions by these empirical equations are validated by several MOFs with an average deviation of 5.4%. Compared with a previous equation for activated carbon materials, the empirical equations demonstrate superior accuracy especially for MOFs with high surface area (i.e., SBET over ≈3000 m2 g-1 ). Guided by these empirical equations, a highly porous Zr-MOF NPF-200 (NPF Nebraska Porous Framework) is examined to possess outstanding hydrogen total adsorption capacity (65.7 mmol g-1 ) at 77 K and record high volumetric working capacity of 37.2 g L-1 between 100 and 5 bar at 77 K. © 2020 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. With an increasing demand for more diverse functionalities, terahertz (THz) metamaterials are also expanding their domain, from the realm of mere passive devices to the broader area where functionalized active THz devices are particularly required. A brief review on THz metamaterials is given with a focus on research conducted in the authors' group. The first part is centered on enhanced THz optical responses from tightly coupled meta-atom structures, such as high refractive index, enhanced optical activity, anomalous wavelength scaling, large phase retardation, and nondispersive polarization rotation. Next, electrically gated graphene metamaterials are reviewed with an emphasis on the functionalization of enhanced THz optical responses. Finally, the linear frequency conversion of THz waves in a rapidly time-variant THz metamaterial is briefly discussed in the more general context of spatiotemporal control of light. © 2020 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. The tranquil (not apathetic) stoic prioritizes three core principles Virtue, Control of Emotions, and Community. Early Stoics built on Hippocrates's philosophy, but rarely does the medical literature highlight this timeless wisdom. Let us revive this surgically precise antidote for burnout. Overcome harmful, negative emotions by recognizing them as judgements. Strive to be "free from passions and yet full of love." Notice and appreciate the connection you have with other people, even the difficult ones. Most importantly, focus your attention on what you can control. This article is protected by copyright. Severe pathogenic mutations cause sporadic and inherited rare disorders that often involve the nervous system. However, some mutations cause mild organ-specific phenotypes that have a reduced clinical penetrance, and polymorphic variation of mtDNA is associated with an altered risk of developing several late-onset common human diseases including Parkinson's disease. mtDNA mutations also accumulate during human life and are enriched in affected organs in a number of age-related diseases. Thus, mtDNA contributes to a wide range of human pathologies. For many decades, it has generally been accepted that mtDNA is inherited exclusively down the maternal line in humans. Although recent evidence has challenged this dogma, whole-genome sequencing has identified nuclear-encoded mitochondrial sequences (NUMTs) that can give the false impression of paternation of The Journal of Internal Medicine.Monitoring water quality in hemodialysis systems is extremely important to maintain adequate quality services for patients suffering from kidney failure. This work aims to examine and evaluate bacteriological characteristics and endotoxin contamination levels in hemodialysis water produced in dialysis centers. Forty-eight water samples were collected and analyzed from four major hospitals in Baghdad for one year to evaluate seasonal effects. The analysis included the determination of total heterotrophic bacteria using the pour plate method, identification of bacterial isolate using the Vitek2 compact instrument, and the determination of endotoxins levels using Limulus amebocyte lysate (LAL) method. In addition, tap water samples (a source for the hemodialysis water) were also examined bacteriologically. Results showed that 44% of the tested samples for bacterial levels are higher than the maximum value of (100 CFU/ml) set out by the international standards. Endotoxin values for these centers fluctuated during the study period and 44% of them exceeded the international standards (>0.25 EU/ml). These results call for applying improved technology to modify the existing water treatment units for better control and for national standardization of the microbiological quality of hemodialysis water.
