On-chip micro-supercapacitors (MSCs), integrated with energy harvesters, hold substantial promise for developing self-powered wireless sensor systems. However, MSCs have conventionally been manufactured through techniques incompatible with semiconductor fabrication technology, the most significant bottleneck being the electrode deposition technique. Utilization of spin-coating for electrode deposition has shown potential to deliver several complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS)-compatible MSCs on a silicon substrate. Yet, their limited electrochemical performance and yield over the substrate have remained challenges obstructing their subsequent integration. We report a facile surface roughening technique for improving the wafer yield and the electrochemical performance of CMOS-compatible MSCs, specifically for reduced graphene oxide as an electrode material. A 4 nm iron layer is deposited and annealed on the wafer substrate to increase the roughness of the surface. In comparison to standard nonroughened MSCs, the increase in surface roughness leads to a 78% increased electrode thickness, 21% improvement in mass retention, 57% improvement in the uniformity of the spin-coated electrodes, and a high yield of 87% working devices on a 2″ silicon substrate. Furthermore, these improvements directly translate to higher capacitive performance with enhanced rate capability, energy, and power density. Tipifarnib cost This technique brings us one step closer to fully integrable CMOS-compatible MSCs in self-powered systems for on-chip wireless sensor electronics. The molar ratios of Ag to Zn in the precursor solutions were 0, 1, 3, and 5%. The microstructure of the Ag-ZnO sensor was characterized by scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy. The existence of metallic Ag was confirmed by X-ray diffraction and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and the gas sensing properties of Ag-ZnO were investigated. The results showed that the ZnO nanoparticles after Ag nanoparticles modification exhibited excellent gas sensing performance to ethanol and hydrogen sulfide (H2S). The optimal working temperature of the Ag-ZnO sensor significantly decreased for ethanol compared with pure ZnO. The 3% Ag-ZnO sensor exhibited the fastest response to ethanol with the response/recovery times of only 5 and 9 s, respectively. However, all the Ag-ZnO-based gas sensors showed a high response value to H2S, especially the 3% Ag-ZnO gas sensor exhibited a maximum response value of 298 at 10 ppm H2S. These results could be attributed to the spillover effect and electron sensitization effect of Ag nanoparticles, which led to more absorbed oxygen species and active sites, and thereby can further enhance the gas sensing performances of ZnO-based gas sensors. In particular, G-quadruplex structures are folded or unfolded by their binding proteins and affect transcription and other biologic functions. Here, we investigated the effect of the RNA recognition motif (RRM) and arginine-glycine-glycine repeat (RGG) domain of nucleolin on G-quadruplex formation. Our findings indicate that Phe in the RGG domain of nucleolin is responsible for G-quadruplex binding and folding. Moreover, the RRM of nucleolin potentially binds to a guanine-rich single strand and folds the G-quadruplex with a 5'-terminal and 3'-terminal single strand containing guanine. Our findings contribute to our understanding of how the RRM and RGG domains contribute to G-quadruplex folding and unfolding. There is significant interest in the redox processes of rechargeable batteries for high capacity applications. In this paper, the redox processes of triphylite-NaFePO4 and maricite-NaFePO4 materials have been analyzed based on first-principles calculations and analysis of Bader charges. Different from LiFePO4, anionic (O2-) redox reactions are evidently visible in NaFePO4. Electronic structures and density of states are calculated to elaborate the charge transfer and redox reactions during the desodiation processes. Furthermore, we also calculate the formation energies of sodium extraction, convex hull, average voltage plateaus, and volume changes of Na1-x/12FePO4 with different sodium compositions. Deformation charge density plots and magnetization for NaFePO4 are also calculated to help understand the redox reaction processes. In this study, the physicochemical properties of the ensuing Fe3O4/Cu-BDC/GO are investigated using Fourier transform infrared spectrum, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray detector, and atomic absorption spectroscopy. The salient features of the nanocomposite such as Cu-MOF, synergistic effect with GO sheets, and magnetic separation characteristics make it an excellent ternary heterostructure for aerobic oxidation of alcohols. The proposed nanocatalyst and co-catalyst 2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine-N-oxyl substantially enhance the catalytic performance for the aerobic oxidation under very mild and sustainable reaction conditions. The heterogeneity of Fe3O4/Cu-BDC/GO composite catalyst is affirmed with the added advantage that the initial activity is well maintained even after seven cycles. It was then polymerized with benzene-1,4-diamine and 2,7-diaminocarbazole to form polyazomethines. Polymerizations were performed under microwave irradiation and without transition-metal-based catalysts. These biobased conjugated polyazomethines present a broad fluorescence spectrum ranging from 400 to 600 nm. Depending on the co-monomer used, polyazomethines with molar masses of around 10 kg·mol-1 and with electronic gaps ranging from 2.66 to 2.85 eV were obtained. Furthermore, time-dependent density functional theory (TD-DFT) calculations were performed to corroborate the experimental results. Copyright © 2020 American Chemical Society.
