S. identity belonging positively predicted caregivers' later ethnic identity belonging. The findings indicate that immigrant caregivers may retain their native culture to direct and respond to their children's changing cultural identifications.Although considerable research has examined factors that influence social-cognitive processes related to aggression, few studies have examined the factors that influence adolescents' appraisal of the effectiveness of responses, particularly nonviolent alternatives to aggression. This study addressed that gap by examining patterns of adolescents' perceived effectiveness of nonviolent and aggressive responses to hypothetical problem situations and their relations with aggression, victimization, and individual and contextual risk factors. The participants were a predominantly African American (90%) sample of 1469 students (55% female; mean age = 12.7 years; age range = 11-16) from three middle schools who completed measures of perceived effectiveness, self-efficacy, aggression and victimization, and contextual factors. Ratings of adolescents' physical, relational, and verbal aggression and victimization, nonviolent and prosocial behavior were also obtained from their teachers. Latent class analysis identified four subgroups of adolescents including distinguishes effective, mixed support, everything works, and nothing works. Subgroups differed on measures of aggression, victimization, prosocial and nonviolent behavior, self-efficacy for nonviolence, witnessing community violence, and parents' and peers' support for nonviolence and aggression. The findings underscore the importance of designing violence prevention programs to target the unique needs of subgroups of adolescents.Past research has found intergroup contact to be a promising intervention to reduce prejudice and has identified adolescence as the developmental period during which intergroup contact is most effective. Few studies, however, have tested whether contact-based interventions can be scaled up to improve intergroup relations at a large scale. The present research evaluated whether and when the National Citizen Service, a large-scale contact-based intervention reaching one in six 15- to 17-year-olds in England and Northern Ireland, builds social cohesion among adolescents from different ethnic backgrounds. In a diverse sample of adolescents (N = 2099; Mage = 16.37, age range 15-17 years; 58% female), this study used a pretest-posttest design with a double pretest to assess the intervention's effectiveness. Controlling for test-retest effects, this study found evidence that the intervention decreased intergroup anxiety and increased outgroup perspective-taking-but not that it affected intergroup attitudes, intergroup trust, or perceptions of relative (dis-)advantage. These (small) effects were greater for adolescents who had experienced less positive contact before participating and who talked more about group differences while participating. These findings suggest that the intervention might not immediately improve intergroup relations-but that it has the potential to prepare adolescents, especially those with less positive contact experiences before the intervention, for more positive intergroup interactions in the future. Our research examined the renewable energy consumption, foreign direct investment, international trade, and tourism impact on carbon dioxide discharge using system GMM, FMOLS, and DOLS models in selected developed countries of Europe and developing countries of Asia Pacific of the global employment for a period spanning 2000 to 2020. The results indicate that foreign direct investment and tourism comprise a positive affiliation with carbon discharge. Simultaneously, renewable energy utilization with international trade significantly negatively relates to carbon emissions in developed countries. On the other hand, renewable energy consumption, tourism, and global trade play an essential role in increased carbon emissions. Still, carbon dioxide emission decreases by foreign direct investment in developed countries. It is discovered that with long-run estimators, the long-run relationship of variables through carbon discharge in developed and developing countries. Selleckchem Olitigaltin The study findings are considered useful in future planning of renewable energy utilization, FDI, tourism policies, and trade openness to improve ecological excellence.Benzophenone-3 (BP-3) is used in a wide range of personal care products and plastics to resist ultraviolet light, which has aroused considerable public concern due to its endocrine-disrupting effects. In this work, we systematically investigated the chemical oxidation process of BP-3 by KMnO4. Selleckchem Olitigaltin The influences of several factors, such as pH, oxidant dose, temperature, coexisting water constituents, and water matrices, on BP-3 degradation efficiency were evaluated. The removal rate of 10 μM BP-3 could reach 91.3% in 2 h under the conditions of pH = 8.0, [BP-3]0[KMnO4]0 = 120, and T = 25 °C, with the observed rate constant (kobs) value of 0.0202 min-1. The presence of typical anions (Cl-, NO3-, SO42-) and HA could slightly increase BP-3 removal, while HCO3- caused a relatively significant promotion of BP-3 degradation. On the basis of mass spectrometry and theoretical calculations, hydroxylation, direct oxidation, and carbon-carbon bridge bond cleavage were mainly involved in the oxidation process. Selleckchem Olitigaltin Toxicity assessment revealed that the acute and chronic toxicities were reduced significantly, which suggested KMnO4 is a promising technique for BP-3 removal. The objective of the present study was to evaluate the feasibility of pine needle biochar as a soil amendment to promote the growth of Bidens pilosa L. and enhance its ability to phytoextract the cadmium from soil. Pot experiments (50 d) were designed as control experiment (C); metal treatment (MT), 20 mg Cd kg-1; biochar treatment (BT100 or BT200), 100 or 200 mg kg-1; and metal-biochar treatment (MBT100 or MBT200), 20 mg Cd kg-1 and 100 or 200 mg biochar kg-1. The Cd (20 mg kg-1) or biochar treatment (100 mg kg-1) increased the dry weight and root length of B. pilosa. The biochar amendment enhanced the metal concentration in root and shoot of the plant. The plant could accumulate 39.47±5.44 mg Cd kg-1 in shoots (MT), which increased to 45.96±17.3 mg Cd kg-1 and 55.01±5.65 mg Cd kg-1 under biochar treatment sets MBT100 and MBT200, respectively. The Cd uptake by B. pilosa in MT, MBT100, and MBT200 treatments were 67.81 μg/plant, 78.58 μg/plant, and 76.13 μg/plant, respectively. The biochar amendments increased the proline concentrations while decreased the chlorophyll content in leaves indicating the stress on the plant. Overall, the result indicates that soil amended with pine needle biochar at 100 mg kg-1 increased the phytoremediation ability of B. link2 pilosa. The impacts of chlorination on methylparaben (MP) removal, as well as of bromide and ammonia on the MP elimination kinetics, were studied. Bromide and ammonia react with chlorine and are promptly transformed into bromine and chloramines, respectively. Rate constants of chlorine, bromine, and monochloramine with MP were determined under different pH conditions. link2 At pH 8.5, the apparent second-order rate constants of MP reactions with chlorine and bromine were found to be 3.37(±0.50) × 101 and 2.37 (±0.11) × 106 M-1.s-1 for kChlorine/MP and kBromine/MP, respectively, yet there was low reactivity with monochloramine ([Formula see text] = 0.045 M-1.s-1). Regarding chlorination and bromination, in order to gain further insight into the observed pH-dependence of the reaction, the elementary reactions were considered and the corresponding second-order rate constants were calculated. The experimental and modeled values were quite consistent under these conditions. Then, chlorination experiments with different bromide and/or ammonia concentrations were performed to assess the impact of inorganic water content on MP elimination and a kinetic model was designed to assess MP degradation. link2 Under these conditions, MP degradation was found to be enhanced in the presence of bromide whereas it was inhibited in the presence of ammonia, and the overall impact was pH dependent. The aim of this research is to gain a better understanding of the effects of climate change with a comprehensive and dynamic perspective. link3 Therefore, by using the System Dynamics (SD) approach to simulate the effects of climate change on the quality and quantity of the Karoun River and regarding the water supply and demand systems in the region and their feedback relations, a model was developed in Vensim. CGCM3 outputs under A2, B1, and A1B emission scenarios have been used to investigate the effects of climate change on both the quality/quantity of the water resources system. Also, to determine the effects of climate change on agricultural demand, the water requirement of selected crops for the next period (2015-2050) has been calculated via CROPWAT model. The results show that the maximum and minimum temperature and evaporation will increase. The results of the developed SD model show that if the current development process continues under all three climate change scenarios, the system will be able to meet the domestic, industrial, and environmental demand. However, the supply of agricultural demand will be deficient. Also, the average EC value in Ahvaz station under three emission scenarios has increased more than 21%, compared to the 15-year average. The average pH value did not change much. link3 Then, several proposed management scenarios were evaluated to improve system performance. The results show that the scenario of optimal operation of upstream dams has the best performance. However, due to the unrealistic growing trend, despite applying this scenario, the development of the agricultural sector will fail down after a few years. link3 Therefore, to reach a long-term solution to the problem of water shortage, the growth trend of this sector for the next period should be reviewed in light of the effects of climate change. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the soil substitutes in land reclamation following mining activities. This study revealed different reconstructed soil materials have different effects on the chemical properties of reconstructed soil and explored the appropriate proportions of reconstructed soil materials. Using topsoil, coal gangue, fly ash, and rock and soil stripping material from the Shengli Mining Area of Inner Mongolia in China as raw materials, potting experiments were carried out according to different proportions. The variance analysis method was used to analyze the difference in the soil pH values, soil organic matter (SOM) content, soil total nitrogen (STN) content, soil available phosphorus (SAP) content and soil available potassium (SAK) content of the reconstructed soil, and the reasons for the difference were discussed. The results showed that in the treatment group where the topsoil substitute material was coal gangue, when the coal gangue content was 30%, 40%, and 50%, the pH values of reconstructed soil were lower than that of the control scheme. When the coal gangue content exceeded 10%, the soil nutrient status was obviously improved. In the treatment group where the topsoil substitute material was fly ash, the chemical properties of reconstructed soil tended to deteriorate. In the treatment group where the topsoil substitute material was rock and soil stripping material, when the content of rock and soil stripping material exceeded 20%, the chemical properties of reconstructed soil were mostly better than those of the control scheme. The study of the different proportions of coal gangue, fly ash, and rock and soil stripping material as topsoil substitute materials provide support for reclamation work in mining areas where topsoil is scarce, as well as a reference for ecological restoration projects in grassland open-pit mining areas around the world.
