Administration of DSePA through intraperitoneal (IP) or oral route to mice in a dose range of 2 to 2.5mg/kg body weight has shown survival advantage against whole body irradiation and a significant protection to lung tissue against thoracic irradiation. Pharmacokinetic profiling of DSePA suggests its maximum absorption in the lung.
Research work on DSePA reported in fifteen years or so indicates that it is a promising multifunctional organoselenium compound exhibiting many important activities of biological relevance apart from radioprotection.

Activation of V1a and OT receptors in the anterior hypothalamus (AH) increases aggression in males, while decreasing aggression in females. In contrast, activation of 5-HT1A receptors in the AH decreases aggression in males and increases aggression in females. The mechanism underlying these differences is not known. The purpose of this study was to determine if dominance status and sex interact to regulate V1a, OT, and 5-HT1A receptor binding. Same-sex hamsters (N = 47) were paired 12 times across six days in five min sessions. Brains from paired and unpaired (non-social control) hamsters were collected immediately after the last interaction and processed for receptor binding using autoradiography. Differences in V1a, OT, and 5-HT1A receptor binding densities were observed in several brain regions as a function of social status and sex. For example, in the AH, there was an interaction between sex and social status, such that V1a binding in subordinate males was lower than in subordinate females and V1a receptor density in dominant males was higher than in dominant females. There was also an interaction in 5-HT1A receptor binding, such that social pairing increased 5-HT1A binding in the AH of males but decreased 5-HT1A binding in females compared with unpaired controls. These results indicate that dominance status and sex play important roles in shaping the binding profiles of key receptor subtypes across the neural circuitry that regulates social behavior.Dysregulation of mRNA translation is involved in the onset and progression of different types of cancer. Sunitinib cost To gain insight into novel genetic strategies to avoid this malady, we reviewed the available genomic, transcriptomic, and proteomic data about the translational machinery from the naked-mole rat (NMR) Heterocephalus glaber, a new model of study that exhibits high resistance to cancer. The principal features that might confer cancer resistance are 28S rRNA fragmentation, RPL26 and eIF4G overexpression, global downregulation of mTOR pathway, specific amino acid residues in RAPTOR (P908) and RICTOR (V1695), and the absence of 4E-BP3. These features are not only associated with cancer but also might couple longevity and adaptation to hypoxia. We propose that the regulation of translation is among the strategies endowing NMR cancer resistance.Improving the practices of antimicrobial use in hospitals, especially in developing countries, is a challenging duty.
The aim of the study was to determine the effect of certain stewardship actions on the use of antibiotics for device-associated infections in the emergency intensive care unit in Egypt.
The intervention included establishment of AS team, design an antibiogram and preparation of antibiotic use guidelines, education, and infection prevention and control measures. Pre- and postinterventions surveys tookplace including antibiotic prescription compliance, antibiotic cost, bacterial profile and antibiotic resistance rates.
Antibiotic prescription compliance improved, especially for prophylactic antibiotics prescription; in preintervention phase, 27.4% of cases received unindicated antibiotic prophylaxis vs 5.8% after intervention. A statistically significant decrease in cost after the intervention was reported (p = 0.04). Acinetobacter baumannii and Klebsiella pneumonia were the most frequentlyited resource settings.
Dengue fever has become a hampering menace in New Delhi India, since the disease has become hyperendemic, due to circulation of multiple serotypes of dengue virus (DENV). This hyperendemicity poses a greater risk of secondary infections in human health system. This is a major issue which leads to apprehension amongst the researchers and health organizations and thus requires regular epidemiological surveillance.
We analyzed the prevalence and serotypic distribution of dengue fever cases reported from the Southern part of New Delhi during continued surveillance from 2011 to 2017. The blood samples for the investigation were obtained from the patients suspected with dengue fever attending the OPD at a local Health Centre. The data for 2011-2016 was already published from our laboratory. The samples collected during 2017 were serotyped and characterized in the present study.
A total of 565 samples (59%) were positive for DENV of 958 samples tested by RT-PCR during 7 years (2011-2017). Our study has shown twill assist in formulation and implementation of effective control measures.New 1,3 dibenzyl -tetrahydropyridinylidene ammonium salts have been prepared from unsubstituted or N-benzylated tetrahydropyridinylidene ammonium salts. The antiplasmodial and antitrypanosomal activities as well as their cytotoxic effects were determined using microplate assays. In addition, their activities against two gram positive and two gram negative bacteria strains and a yeast strain were examined. Furthermore, anticancer effects against two cell lines were investigated. Physicochemical parameters were calculated and structure-activity-relationships discussed. One compound showed antiplasmodial activity against a multiresistant strain of Plasmodium falciparum in subnanomolar concentration. Antitrypanosomal activities were detected in low nanomolar concentrations. A single compound was active against grampositive and gramnegative bacteria, as well as yeast. One compound inhibited the growth of a HCT cell line in low concentration.
