Global health has become fashionable and an important topic on the international policy agenda. Even before the COVID-19 pandemic, cross-border infectious diseases had provoked a great deal of media and public interest, academic research and foreign-policy agendas. This paper analyses the relevance of health security in global health. It stresses global health as an explicitly political concept taking into consideration existing inequalities and power asymmetries. Global health represents the necessary evolution of public health in the face of ubiquitous global challenges and the growing number of international players. Some of them tend to divert global health towards technification, marketisation and privatisation, promoting biomedical reductionism and predominantly technological solutions. Overall, the current global health concept fails to adequately consider the global burden of disease, which is largely determined by non-communicable conditions. Global health goes beyond preventing infectious diseases and health security and must first and foremost focus on the social, economic, ecologic and political determination of health, which interacts with non-communicable and communicable diseases, turning them into syndemics. Health-in-all policies in a global perspective are required for sustainably reducing health inequalities within and between countries, instead of primarily focusing on security and safeguarding the status quo in a changing world.

The COVID-19 pandemic has drastically increased use of remote-delivered mental health services. This study identifies advantages and limitations of remote-delivered services on college campuses to inform mental health delivery post-pandemic.

Clinicians (

 = 30) were asked to evaluate COVID-19's impact on their work, environment, and wellness in an online survey. Qualitative data was coded using a thematic analysis approach, while quantitative data was analyzed using descriptive statistics.

Many clinicians reported benefits of remote services, including increased accessibility, greater convenience, no change in therapeutic alliance, and decreased stress for clinicians. Clinicians also experienced challenges such as social isolation, technological difficulties, and personal/family concerns. Clinicians envisioned a hybrid service combining online and in-person activities post-pandemic.

Dysregulation of long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) contributes to the pathogenesis of PE. The current study sought to investigate the effect of lncRNA small nucleolar RNA host gene 5 (SNHG5) on trophoblast autophagy in PE. A PE mouse model was established, followed by detection of parameters such as blood pressure, proteinuria, triglycerides, total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein, and high-density lipoprotein, observation of alterations of mouse placenta and kidney, and detection of B-cell chronic lymphocytic leukemia/lymphoma-2, Bcl-2-associated X protein, and SNHG5 expression patterns. The expressions of LC3, Beclin-1, and p62 in the placenta of PE mice were detected. Moreover, the SNHG5 expression was downregulated in the established HTR-8/SVneo trophoblast model, followed by evaluation of cell proliferation, apoptosis, and autophagy. After combination treatment with 3-MA (an autophagy inhibitor) and si-SNHG5, the behaviors of HTR-8/SVneo cells were observed. The binding relations between SNHG5 and miR-31-5p, and miR-31-5p and SPARC were verified. The expressions of miR-31-5p and SPARC in the placenta of mice and trophoblasts were determined. Our results demonstrated a poor expression of lncRNA SNHG5 in PE mice. SNHG5 overexpression reduced the PE phenotype and tissue damage in mice. SNHG5 silencing reduced the proliferation, migration, and invasion of trophoblasts, but elevated apoptosis and autophagy. SNHG5 sponged miR-31-5p to promote SPARC transcription. Additionally, miR-31-5p knockdown or 3-MA treatment reverted the stimulative effect of SNHG5 silencing on trophoblast autophagy. Collectively, our study demonstrated that lncRNA SNHG5 alleviated the PE phenotype and inhibited trophoblast autophagy by sponging miR-31-5p and promoting SPARC transcription.This study aimed to calculate the dose-response relationship and predictors of visual acuity (VA) improvement following occlusion therapy at the IWK Health Center Eye Clinic and to add to amblyopia therapy dose-response relationship literature. A retrospective chart review was performed, considering patients who reached an occlusion therapy outcome at the IWK Eye Clinic between 2012 and 2019. The treatment outcome was defined as equal VA or stable VA for three consecutive clinical visits despite reported compliance. Subjective patching hours from parental reports, not prescribed hours, were used for statistical analyses. One hundred and thirty-four patients (66 females and 68 males) ages 2-11 years were included. Results showed a dose-response relationship of 224 hours/0.1logMAR increase in VA and total dose of 1344 hours for full-time occlusion and 504 hours for part-time occlusion was required to reach outcome VA. The fastest VA improvement occurred with younger age at treatment initiation, during the first 4 weeks of treatment, and in patients with strabismic and/or severe amblyopia. Classification of amblyopia, age, VA chart, initial distance VA (amblyopic eye), and treatment dose predicted the hour dose-response relationship. Dose-response relationship was faster in younger participants, in participants with strabismic and severe amblyopia, and during the first month of occlusion. The effect of SETD7 in in vitro cell model of cerebral I/R injury was investigated in this study. Firstly, adrenal pheochromocytoma cell (PC12) was conducted with oxygen-glucose deprivation/reoxygenation (OGD/R) to establish cell model of cerebral I/R injury. OGD/R-enhanced SETD7 expression in PC12 cells. Cell viability of OGD/R-induced PC12 was reduced, while the apoptosis was promoted. Secondly, knockdown of SETD7 reversed the effect of OGD/R on cell viability and apoptosis of PC12. Moreover, OGD/R-induced inflammation in PC12 with decreased interleukin (IL)-10, increased IL-6, IL-1β, tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), and cyclooxygenase 2 (COX-2) were restored by knockdown of SETD7. Thirdly, knockdown of SETD7 attenuated OGD/R-induced decrease of superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px), and catalase (CAT), as well as increase of malondialdehyde (MDA) and reactive oxygen species (ROS) in PC12. Lastly, OGD/R-induced decrease of NF-κB inhibitor α (IκBα), increase of phosphorylated (p)-p65, p-IκBα, and Keap1 (Kelch-like ECH-associated protein 1) were reversed by silence of SETD7. Silence of SETD7 increased heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) and nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) expression in OGD/R-induced PC12. In conclusion, suppression of SETD7 ameliorated OGD/R-induced inflammation and oxidative stress in PC12 cell through inactivation of NF-κB and activation of Keap1/Nrf2/ARE pathway.

To review the effects of external lumbar supports on various aspects of sensorimotor function including joint position sense (JPS), postural control, anticipatory postural adjustments (APAs), and compensatory postural adjustments (CPAs).

A systematic literature search was performed in PubMed, EMBASE, Scopus, Ovid, Cochrane library, and Web of Science. Two reviewers selected studies which assessed the effect of lumbosacral orthosis or kinesio-tape on JPS, postural control or APAs/CPAs in subjects with and without low back pain (LBP). The methodological quality of included studies was assessed using a modified version of Downs and Black's checklist.

Findings demonstrated moderate effects of lumbosacral orthosis on specific aspects of sensorimotor control including JPS and to a lesser extent standing stability. These domains were not or minimally affected by application of kinesio-tape. Both orthosis and kinesio-tape had negligible effects on APAs and CPAs.
