The present study focussed on recovering the valuable carbon resources from agro-residues (wheat straw, rice husk) and waste plastics (polypropylene, polystyrene) using microwave pyrolysis and co-pyrolysis. The main objective of this study is to investigate the effect of the susceptor blending mechanism on the co-pyrolysis product distribution. Graphite was mixed with feedstock in a new approach to achieving homogeneity, and microwave power of 600 W was used. The average heating rate (52-67 (°C/min)), microwave energy required (2267-2936 (J/g)), heat energy utilized (1410-1444 (J/g)), and conductive heat losses (85-110 (J/g)) were analyzed. The selectivity of cyclic alkanes and alkenes (65.5%) was found to be high in polypropylene pyrolysis oil. Polystyrene pyrolysis oil predominantly contained cyclooctatetraene (61%) compound. Bio-oil obtained from wheat straw predominantly contained aromatic hydrocarbons (85%), whereas rice husk oil also contains high selectivity aromatic hydrocarbons (37.8%) along with aliphatic hydrocarbons (54.9%). The co-pyrolysis oils has high selectivity of aromatics. The valorization of organic waste into lactic acid (LA) via co-digestion has attracted tremendous research interests in recent years. This study investigated the feasibility of intensifying the LA accumulation from anaerobic digestion (AD) of swine manure (SM) by adding apple waste (AW) or potato waste (PW). Results indicated that AW or PW obviously enhanced the accumulation of LA, and when the optimal mixing ratio of AW or PW to SM of 7525, the maximum concentrations of LA were 27.61 and 8.91 g COD/L, which were around 3.53- and 1.14-folds of that of the mono-digestion of SM, respectively. Meanwhile, the co-digestion of SM and AW showed significantly higher LA production than that of SM and PW (p less then 0.05). High reducing sugar content of AW contributed to LA accumulation in AD process. In addition, AW increased the relative abundance of Lactobacillus and Clostridium, thus benefited the production of LA.Lactic acid is one of the essential platform chemicals, and despite the availability of a range of downstream processes, its effective recovery is still elusive. A phase partitioning process using n-butanol and a chaotropic salt ammonium sulphate was developed to recover lactic acid from the fermentation broth of Lactobacillus pentosus SKL-18. During the optimization of various process parameters, the extraction medium's pH was found to be critical, with 2.5 being the best. The optimized process resulted in a lactic acid yield of 86% and found it to be 93% pure. The purity and characteristics of lactic acid were confirmed by FTIR and NMR spectra. This solvent-based extraction procedure is an economical and straightforward downstream process for purifying lactic acid produced from agro- and bakery-residues. The pure lactic acid can further be used for enzymatic synthesis of high value-added product PLA, a biodegradable and biocompatible plastics.

This study sought to examine the trends in Internet support group (ISG) participation among U.S. adults and to investigate the sociodemographic and behavioral health profiles of ISG participants.

Data was derived from the National Survey on Drug Use and Health (2004-2018, n=625,883). Logistic regression was used to examine significance of trend year and correlates of ISG participation. Latent class analysis was conducted to identify subtypes of ISG participants.

The proportion of U.S. adults participating in ISG increased significantly from 2.29% (2004-2007) to 3.55% (2016-2018). ISG participants were less likely to be male, 35 or older, be part of an ethnic/racial minority group, or have household incomes between $20,000 and $49,999. Black/African American participants and those classified as "other" race showed the largest percent increases, while Hispanics showed no change. ISG participants were more likely to have experienced a depressive episode and to have used cannabis. Three subtypes of ISG partnvestigation also identified distinct subtypes of ISG participants and provides important implications for future research on ISG.Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) is characterized by difficulties in social cognition and social interactions, which exacerbate under stress. A previous study found better facial emotion recognition (FER) in patients with personality disorders and healthy controls (HC) after stress. We recently reported that emotional empathy scores, i.e. the emotional response to another person's emotional state, were significantly lower in BPD patients than in HC after psychosocial stress. Cognitive empathy scores remained unaltered. The present study aims to further investigate the effect of psychosocial stress induced by the Trier Social Stress Test (TSST) on FER as part of social cognition in patients with BPD. hypoxia-inducible factor cancer We randomized 43 women with BPD and 46 female HC to either the TSST or a placebo condition. Afterwards, participants were asked in an emotion recognition test to identify emotions in faces showing anger or sadness at low and high intensity. Both groups recognized emotions better at high intensity compared with low intensity. There was no effect of stress on FER performance and we found no difference between groups. This is in line with prior research on social cognition in BPD patients demonstrating that the ability to understand another person's perspective might be unaffected by acute stress.Diurnal mood variation (DMV), a common symptom of major depressive disorder (MDD), is associated with circadian related genes and dysregulation of the suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN). Previous research confirmed that the RORA gene is involved in the regulation of circadian rhythms. In this study, we hypothesized that polymorphisms of RORA may affect DMV symptoms of MDD through functional changes in the SCN. A total of 208 patients diagnosed with depression and 120 control subjects were enrolled and underwent a resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rs-fMRI). Blood samples were collected and genotyping of 9 RORA gene SNPs were performed using next-generation sequencing technology. Patients were categorized as an AA genotype or C allele carriers based on RORA rs72752802 polymorphism. SCN-seed functional connectivity (FC) was compared between the two groups and correlation with severity of DMV was analyzed. Finally, a mediation analysis was performed to further determine FC intermediary effects. We observed that rs72752802 was significantly associated with patients' DMV symptoms.
