394, 95% CI 1.121-1.734, P = .004) with adjustment for diet quality and relevant risk factors. The higher risk of mortality associated with a low-protein intake was consistent in subjects with or without albuminuria (P interaction .280). CONCLUSION A protein intake of less than 0.8 g/kg/day was associated with a higher risk of mortality in subjects with an eGFR ≧60 mL/min/1.73 m2 , irrespective of whether they had albuminuria. © 2020 John Wiley & Sons Ltd.This study reports the findings of a qualitative, grounded theory study which explored the experiences of partners and other long-term family carers living with and supporting loved ones with spinal cord injury. The study is exploratory in that little was previously known about the experience of long-term care-giving in this context in Australia. Most research in this area has focused on this experience during the first 5 years postinjury. This study focuses on the experiences of family carers beyond that 5-year period. The study aimed to explore the experience of partners and other long-term family carers of people with spinal cord injury, and illuminate their daily lives, interests, concerns and caring approaches in this context. selleck compound Data collection included in-depth interviews, a focus group and an on-line, password-protected research blog for participant narrative reflections. Findings revealed that the experience of long-term caring is complex, all-encompassing and lifelong. This experience is conceptualised here as lifetime active care which always involves what we describe as protective, negotiated, surreptitious and strategic caring. These dimensions of caring are interdependent and deeply embedded in the daily, active support provided by long-term carers of people with spinal cord injury. We argue that carers in this context are involved in processes that have, in other contexts, been conceptualised as narrative reconstruction and also that the four dimensions of caring identified involve significant emotion work. The social processes of lifetime active care may shed light on the experiences of family carers in other long-term care contexts. © 2020 John Wiley & Sons Ltd.Radioiodine (131 I, RAI) has traditionally been used in thyroid cancer treatment but its benefit should be balanced against possible risks. Among them, salivary gland dysfunction has often been discussed, although the reported data have been inconsistent. The aim of our prospective study was to evaluate salivary gland function in 31 thyroidectomised patients (6 men, 25 women; median age 52 yr) before and 4-6 months after RAI remnant ablation (RRA), using activity of 3.7 GBq 131 I-NaI. Salivary gland uptake and excretion fractions were quantitatively assessed with 99m Tc - pertechnetate salivary gland scintigraphy. Pre- and post-treatment values were compared using Wilcoxon signed rank test. No statistically significant difference in the pre- and post-treatment values was observed in parotid or submandibular glands uptake, or in the parotid or submandibular excretion fractions. The calculated power for minimum relevant difference of 25% with the sample size of 31 ranged between 86% and 96% for the individual variables, making our negative results reasonably reliable. The results suggest that RRA with the most commonly used activity of 3.7 GBq has no important impact on salivary gland function. Therefore, the concerns about putative salivary gland functional deterioration following RRA are probably unjustified. © 2020 The Authors. Of 16, 53 and 35 compounds identified in the stem, leaf, and flowers, respectively, only 5 are present in all three segments of the plant. The essential oil of the stem was mainly composed of Neryl acetate, Spathulenol, Carvacrol, Santolina alcohol, and trans -Caryophyllene oxide. However, the main identified components of leaf were 1,8-Cineole, Camphor, Aascaridole, trans -Isoascaridole, and Piperitone oxide and the main components of the flower oil were Ascaridole, trans -Isoascaridole, 1,8-Cineole, p-Cymene, and Camphor. The extracted oil from different segments demonstrated varying antibacterial properties against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, demonstrated by disk, minimum inhibitory concentration, and minimum bactericidal concentration methods. These suggest that the application of all segments of aerial parts of A. filipendulina may have a better therapeutic effect in fighting pathogenic systems. © 2020 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. The use of Picrosirius red staining associated with circularly polarized microscopy gave evidence of appreciable modifications of the fibrous connective tissue forming septa. Compact fibrotic bundles of collagen I forming interlobular septa appeared reduced or dissolved, in part substituted by the increase of more diffuse and finely reticular collagen III. Remodeling of fibrous collagen, which formed bridles involved in the appearance at the surface of the skin of dimpling/orange peer pattern typical of cellulite, was observed. © 2020 Wiley Periodicals LLC.Changes in intracellular calcium (Ca2+ ) signaling can modulate cellular machinery required for cancer progression. Neuronal Calcium Sensor 1 (NCS1) is a ubiquitously expressed Ca2+ -binding protein that promotes tumor aggressiveness by enhancing cell survival and metastasis. However, the underlying mechanism by which NCS1 contributes to increased tumor aggressiveness has yet to be identified. In this study we aimed to determine (1) whether NCS1 expression changes in response to external stimuli, (2) the importance of NCS1 for cell survival and migration, and (3) the cellular mechanism(s) through which NSC1 modulates these outcomes. We found that NCS1 abundance increases under conditions of stress, most prominently after stimulation with the pro-inflammatory cytokine tumor necrosis factor α (TNFα), in a manner dependent on nuclear factor kappa-light-chain-enhancer of activated B cells (NFκB). We found that NFκB signaling is activated in human breast cancer tissue, which was accompanied by an increase in NCS1 mRNA expression.
