65mm and Group II patients with EFT ≤4.65mm. Coronary angiograms were analyzed for the extent and severity of CAD using Gensini score. The mean EFT (mm) was found 6.1±1.0 in Group I and 3.5±0.7 in Group II (p4.65mm predicated the presence of significant coronary stenosis by 76.1% sensitivity and 69.9% specificity. EFT measured using Transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) significantly correlates with the severity of CAD. It is sensitive, easily available, and cost-effective and assists in the risk stratification and may be an additional marker on classical risk factors for CAD.Suicide is a major preventable public health problem globally however, under attended in Bangladesh. It happens because of multi-factorial involvement; nevertheless, past suicidal attempt is a significant predictor of future suicidal behavior. We aimed to assess the suicidal behaviors among the patients visiting for psychiatric care in a tertiary care hospital of Bangladesh. This cross-sectional study was conducted among the patients attending at department of Psychiatry, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University, Dhaka, from March 2018 to February 2019. A total of 379 patients were interviewed with pre-tested semi structured questionnaire. Non probability purposive sampling was used to collect data. Data were entered into Statistical Package for the Social Sciences 16.0 software and analyzed Among the 379 respondents, 197(52%) were male, 52.5% were married. Mean±SD age of the respondents was 29.94±11.32 year ranging from 18 to 75 years. About 24% percent of the respondents had family history of mental illness, 4% had family history of completed suicides. Prevalence of life time suicidal ideation among the patients was found as 32.5%, one-year prevalence rate 26.4%, one month 17.2% and within last two days it was found as 11.3%. The rate of suicidal plan was 14.0%, preparation 10.0% and attempt was 7.4%. Mean±SD age of onset of suicidal ideation was 24.33±8.9 year ranging from 14 to 57 years. About one in three psychiatric patients had life time suicidal ideation. Third decade of life was found to be vulnerable for onset of suicidal thoughts.Although huge improvement in neonatal mortality reduction in last two decades in Bangladesh but it is still very high compare with many other countries. High neonatal mortality also significantly contribute deaths among the under five children. Neonatal mortality reflects a nation's socio-economic status, efficiency and effectiveness of health care services. This was cross sectional study. The objective of this study was to analyse the diseases pattern and outcome of the neonates admitted in the newly established SCANU (Special care neonatal unit) of 250 bedded General Hospital of Tangail district, Bangladesh. Study period was one year from January 2017 to December 2017. Information from medical records of the SCANU was analysed. During the study period 1,379 neonates were admitted in the SCANU. The ratio between male and female was 1.51, 61% of the neonates admitted at first day of life. The reasons for admissions in SCANU were 31% of preterm and low birth weight, 23%birth asphyxia, 13% neonatal sepsis, 9% transient tachypnea of newborn, 5% congenital anomalies and 4% neonatal jaundice. Out of all neonates survival rate was 56% (779), while 25% (349) ended with fatality, 9% (122) were referred to tertiary level hospital and 10% (129) were left the hospital against medical advice. Among the fatal cases 63% died in first 24 hours and 88% in first week of life. Data shows that 47% deaths were due to preterm and low birth weight with its complication, other significant causes were birth asphyxia (30%), septicemia (16%) and congenital anomalies were (6%). Preterm and low birth weight, neonatal sepsis, birth asphyxia, transient tachypnea of newborn; congenital anomalies were the main reasons for admission in SCANU. Prematurity and its complication, birth asphyxia and neonatal sepsis as the major contributors to the neonatal mortality. The study findings will help researchers and policy makers to initiate further research and interventions to reduce fatality among the neonates in the SCANU.The history of ascariasis is very old. It is endemic in various parts of Bangladesh. Hepatobiliary ascariasis is a well-known complication of the intestinal ascariasis. Although cosmopolitan, it predominantly affects people in Asia, Africa, and South America. This was a prospective observational study conducted from July to December 2014 to explore the short term outcome of therapeutic ERCP in the treatment of biliary ascariasis in a tertiary care hospital of Bangladesh. A total of 60 cases of biliary ascariasis were selected conveniently in this study. Data were collected by face-to-face interviews and observation with the help of data sheet. Data were checked for quality control and analyzed by computer using SPSS software. The mean±SD age of the patients was 30.96±7.66 years. All the patients were aged between 17 and 55 years and predominantly affect women in the 3rd and 4th decades. The most common presentation was upper abdominal pain in 47(83.32%) of the patients. Ultrasound was the diagnostic tool of choice, where biliary ascariasis was found in 40(66.7%) of patients. ERCP is reserved mainly for therapeutic purposes and found successful in 57(95%) of the patients.Wilson disease is an autosomal recessive disorder in which copper pathologically accumulates primarily within the liver, brain and other tissues. It can presents clinically as liver disease, as a progressive neurological disorder or as psychiatric illness. The wide array of clinical manifestations of WD can lead to misdiagnosis with subsequent greater risk of irreversible damage to liver and brain. Many tests can be used to investigate patients of Wilson disease, including serum free copper, 24 hours urine copper estimation, hepatic copper estimation and genetic mutation testing. But there is no single ideal diagnostic test that can exclude or confirm the disease with certainty. The aim of the study was to find out the efficacy of different diagnostic test for the diagnosis of Wilson disease. This cross-sectional analytical study was conducted at department of Paediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University, Dhaka, Bangladesh from January 2016 through January 2018. A tlue and accuracy of 24 hour urinary copper were 100%, 63%, 80% and 85.1% respectively. The sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, negative predictive value and accuracy of KF ring, serum ceruloplasmin and basal 24 hour urinary copper excretion when combined together came out to be 70.4%, 100%, 100%, 59.3% and 79.3% respectively. This study result showed that serum ceruloplasmin and 24 hour urinary copper can be used as a screening test for the diagnosis of Wilson disease.Rotavirus is responsible for acute severe watery diarrhoea in young children. Early and rapid detection of Rotavirus infection can help to reduce inappropriate administration of antibiotics and has future positive impact on prevention of drug resistance. This cross-sectional study was designed to determine the role of Rotaviral antigen detection by ICT from stool sample of acute diarrhoeal children below five years admitted in Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital, Sylhet and was carried out in the Department of Microbiology in collaboration with the Department of Paediatrics during the period from 1st January 2018 to 31st December 2018. Total 184 children of under five years of age with acute watery diarrhoea were enrolled in this study. Rotaviral antigen was detected by ELISA (Enzyme Linked Immunosorbent Assay) and ICT (Immunochromatographic test) from stool samples. Out of 184 stool samples, Rotaviral antigen was found positive in 84 and 86 cases by ICT and ELISA methods, respectively. ICT showed sensitivity of 90.70% and specificity of 93.88% when compared with ELISA. The Rotavirus infection was found highest in male children (61.90%) and in age group of 7 to 12 months (51.89%). Considering the importance of Rotaviral diarrhoea, rapid detection of Rotavirus infection by ICT is essentially needed and might be practiced routinely as it is relatively reliable, easy to perform and cost-effective. It is particularly important in Bangladesh, where diarrhoea is still contributing a significant proportion of morbidity and mortality in under five children.Platelets are involved in regeneration at sites of bony defect, apart from their function in coagulation. An autologous preparation platelet-rich plasma gel applied to sites of bony defects after surgical treatment of jaw cyst. This case-control study was conducted in Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) in the department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery from September 2017 to August 2018. Total 30 patients were chosen having jaw cyst. They were divided into 2 groups; Group A and Group B, where Group A got the platelet rich plasma, after removal of the cystic lesion; and Group B got the normal usual treatment. Platelet rich plasma gel was prepared using a standardized technique and applied to the surgical site of the Group A. The differences of radiographic changes between the two groups at 6th, 12th, 18th and 24th weeks after surgery were analyzed. Study showed significant changes in early bone regeneration in group A at 12th and 18th weeks post operatively. Platelet rich plasma induces early bone regeneration and it has proven successful outcome.Menstruation, an essential part of the reproductive cycle, is experienced by all adolescent girls. Poor menstrual hygiene is associated with serious ill-health and drop-out from school. An intervention study was carried out to evaluate the outcome of health education on menstrual hygiene practice among randomly selected 45 adolescent girls attending in a purposively selected Shomospur Girls' High School, Khoksha at Kushtia district in 2018. Data were collected before and after intervention by pre-tested, semi-structured interview schedule with a view to explore the practice during menstruation. Majority 23(51.11%) subjects were between 10 to 14 years of age with a mean of 14.42±1.03 years. Mean age at menarche was 12.38±1.15 years. During menstrual period, adolescent girls used to refrain from performing daily household chores (34), skip from attending school (26), stay alone (26) and avoid to mix with others (25). Over two-thirds 31(68.89%) girls forbade nutritious foods like fish, meat, egg and tamarinds. Asunlight with a statistically significant difference (p less then 0.05). Change of behaviour as to frequency of changing sanitary pad (p less then 0.05) and methods of disposal of sanitary materials was revealed. It can be concluded that imparting knowledge to adolescent girls is effective to keep away from harmful social behaviours, food intake practice and use of sanitary napkin, replace of menstrual absorbent at regular interval and cleaning and storage of reusable sanitary materials with their hygienic disposal.Among the quinolones, fluoroquinolones are broad spectrum antimicrobial agents used for treating many clinical infections including Salmonellosis. Although high level of resistance to fluoroquinolones remains low in Salmonella but reduced susceptibility is increasing worldwide. Vistusertib clinical trial Plasmid-mediated quinolone resistance (PMQR) of qnr type (qnrA, B and S) has been identified now a day in several enterobacterial species including Salmonella spp. This cross-sectional study was held at department of Microbiology, Mymensingh Medical College, Mymensingh, Bangladesh from March 2019 to February 2020. This study was conducted to determine the current quinolone resistance pattern and to detect the presence of qnrA, qnrB and qnrS genes among Salmonella isolates. Antimicrobial susceptibility test of 36 Salmonella isolates were done by disc diffusion method. MIC of ciprofloxacin was detected by agar dilution method. Then amplification with specific primers of qnrA, qnrB and qnrS genes were performed for all Salmonella isolates.
