We aimed to develop a nomogram for evaluating the overall survival (OS) and cancer-specific survival (CSS) in patients with primary bone lymphoma (PBL). Patients diagnosed with PBL between 2007 and 2016 were collected from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database. All patients were randomly allocated to the training cohort and validation cohort (2  1). The nomogram was developed by the training cohort and validated by the validation cohort using the concordance index (C-index), calibration plots, and decision curve analyses (DCAs). The C-index for CSS and OS prediction in the training cohort were 0.76 and 0.77, respectively; in the validation cohort, they were 0.76 and 0.79, respectively. The calibration curve showed good consistency between nomogram prediction and actual survival. The DCA indicated obvious net benefits of the new predictive model. The nomogram showed favorable applicability and accuracy, and it will be a reliable tool for predicting OS and CSS in patients with PBL.

Emergency department (ED) triage regarding infection with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) is challenging. During the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak in Germany, the diagnostic outcomes of critically ill patients admitted to the resuscitation room in the ED of our academic 754-bed hospital should be analyzed.

All resuscitation room patients between March 1st and April 15th 2020 were included in this retrospective study. Every patient with suspicion of SARS-CoV-2 infection received a pharyngeal swab for real-time polymerase chain reaction (rt-PCR), divided in the clinical subgroups of "highly suspicious for COVID-19" and "COVID-19 as differential diagnosis." All respiratory and infectious symptoms were included as at least "differential diagnosis" as an expanded suspicion strategy.

We collected gene expression data from Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database containing 76 PCOS samples and 57 normal samples; five datasets were utilized, including one dataset for screening differentially expressed genes (DEGs), two training datasets, and two validation datasets. Firstly, based on RF, 12 key genes in 264 DEGs were identified to be vital for classification of PCOS and normal samples. Moreover, the weights of these key genes were calculated using ANN with microarray and RNA-seq training dataset, respectively. Sixty patients with stage 5 CKD and 30 healthy controls from The Second Affiliated Hospital of Shantou University Medical College, between March 21, 2019, and October 30, 2019, were recruited in this prospective cohort study. We analyzed the serum levels of NCOAs (NCOA1, NCOA2, and NCOA3), HIF-1α, vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), etc. and assessed whether there was any relationship between these parameters and CKD disease. We found that circulating NCOA1 was positively associated with circulating NCOA2, NCOA3, and HIF-1α. A positive correlation was also observed between NCOA2 and NCOA1, NCOA3, HIF-1α, and VEGF. Furthermore, statistically significant correlations between NCOA3 and NCOA1, NCOA2, and HIF-1α were observed. The serum levels of VEGF in the CKD group were higher than those of the healthy control group. Circulating NCOA1 and circulating NCOA2 were negatively associated with procalcitonin. In conclusion, there was an association between circulating NCOA1, NCOA2, NCOA3, and circulating HIF-1α, and circulating VEGF was a risk factor for CKD disease. However, more studies should be performed to confirm this hypothesis.The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has caused a catastrophic global health crisis. There is a lack of mitigation and clinical management strategies for COVID-19 in specific patient cohorts such as hemodialysis (HD) patients. We report our experience in treating the first case of COVID-19 in a HD patient in Singapore who had a severe clinical course including acute respiratory distress syndrome and propose a clinical management strategy. We propose a clinical workflow in managing such patients based on available evidence from literature review. We also highlight the importance of early recognition and intervention for disease control, dialysis support in an acute hospital isolation facility, deisolation protocol, and discharge planning due to prolonged viral shedding. The case highlights important points specific to a HD patient with a COVID-19 diagnosis, tailored interventions for each stage of the disease, and deisolation considerations in the recovery phase.Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a common presentation which can result from a number of different underlying pathological processes. Haematological malignancies, particularly multiple myeloma (MM), are known to frequently present with AKI. Anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA)-associated vasculitis (AAV) is a rare condition which can cause crescentic glomerulonephritis (GN), resulting in AKI. We present the case of a 60-year-old man who presented with clinical features suggestive of AAV in the context of blood tests which demonstrated AKI and positive perinuclear ANCA (p-ANCA) and anti-myeloperoxidase (anti-MPO) titres. Further investigations demonstrated an underlying diagnosis of MM. A renal biopsy was ultimately required to determine the cause of AKI, a cast nephropathy. This case is the first to our knowledge which demonstrates a rare situation in which myeloma kidney is associated with positive p-ANCA and anti-MPO titres, without any evidence of a crescentic GN. It highlights the importance of following up on all investigations sent in the context of AKI, even when a potential diagnosis seems evident.
