In order to study the hydrocarbon combustion in the low-temperature catalytic process of a catalytic gasoline particulate filter (CGPF) during cold start, a mathematical model of the CGPF is established and verified firstly. Voxel-based morphometry analysis and cortical thickness analysis were conducted to explore associations between the structural imaging data and balanced time perspective. Compared with males, females demonstrated a more balanced time perspective in the context of lower grey matter volume in the bilateral precuneus, right cerebellum, right putamen and left supplementary motor area. Analysis of cortical thickness failed to reveal any significant sex differences. Our findings point to a critical role for the precuneus in modulating a balanced time perspective, and extend our understanding of sex differences in human cognition. Future studies are required to determine whether sex differences in balanced time perspective are predictive of functional outcomes in daily life.This study explored women's gambling in response to male intimate partner violence (IPV). Twenty-four women were recruited through service providers and online advertising. All women had been victimised by IPV and all experienced problems relating to the gambling on electronic gaming machines (EGMs). Thematic analysis of their in-depth interviews identified three major themes. The main pattern of gambling and IPV (Theme 1) was where ongoing coercive control preceded the woman's gambling. Situational violence in response to gambling was also observed. Regardless of temporal sequence, a self-perpetuating cycle of gambling and IPV victimisation was typically apparent, with both issues escalating over time. Reflecting severe traumatic violence, push factors from IPV that motivated the women's gambling (Theme 2) included physical escape, psychological escape, hope of regaining control over their lives, and gambling to cope with the legacy of abuse. Pull factors attracting these women to gambling venues (Theme 3) appeared to have heightened appeal to these victims of IPV. These included venues' social, geographic and temporal accessibility, allowance for uninterrupted play on EGMs, and the addictive nature of EGMs. These push and pull factors led to these women's prolonged and harmful gambling while exacerbating their partner's violence. Concerted efforts are needed to assist women in this cycle of IPV and gambling, prevent violence against women, and reduce harmful gambling products and environments.

Ensuring the authenticity of raw materials is a key step prior to producing Chinese patent medicines. Pinellia ternata (Thunb.) Breit. is the botanical origin of Pinelliae Rhizoma (Banxia), a traditional Chinese medicine used to treat cough, insomnia, nausea, inflammation, epilepsy, and so on. Unfortunately, authentic Pinelliae Rhizoma is often adulterated by morphologically indistinguishable plant material due to the insufficient regulatory procedures of processed medicinal plant products. Thus, it is important to develop a molecular assay based on species-specific nucleotide signatures and primers to efficiently distinguish authentic Pinelliae Rhizoma from its adulterants.

The ITS2 region of 67 Pinelliae Rhizoma and its common adulterants were sequenced. Eight single nucleotide polymorphisms within a 28-43bp stretch of ITS2 were used to develop six primer pairs to amplify these species-specific regions. We assayed 56 Pinelliae Rhizoma products sold on the Chinese market, including medicinal slices, powder and Chinese patent medicines, which revealed that about 66% of products were adulterated. The most common adulterants were Pinellia pedatisecta (found in 57% of the assayed products), Arisaema erubescens (9%), Typhonium giganteum (2%) and Typhonium flagelliforme (2%).

Cerebral malaria is often pronounced as a major life-threatening neurological complication of Plasmodium falciparum infection. The complex pathogenic landscape of the parasite and the associated neurological complications are still not elucidated properly. The growing concerns of drugresistant parasite strains along with the failure of anti-malarial drugs to subdue post-recovery neuro-cognitive dysfunctions in cerebral malaria patients have called for a demand to explore novel biomarkers and therapeutic avenues. Due course of the brain infection journey of the parasite, events such as sequestration of infected RBCs, cytoadherence, inflammation, endothelial activation, and blood-brain barrier disruption are considered critical.

Herein, we describe the application of a nonabsorbable polymer Hem-o-lok clip for the closure of the stump. The supra-aortic vessels were looped using cloth tapes and clipped using Hem-o-lok clips with gentle traction of cloth tapes. Then, the supra-aortic vessels were sharply transected, leaving a 2-mm cuff of tissue. There were no incidents of clip failure during application or migration, and no significant intra-operative or post-operative bleeding occurred due to clipping failure. Hem-o-lok clips are an easy, quick, and reliable method for the closure of supra-aortic vessels' stump.
