We report an enantio- and diastereoselective, complete hydrogenation of multiply substituted benzofurans in a one-pot cascade catalysis. The developed protocol facilitates the controlled installation of up to six new defined stereocenters and produces architecturally complex octahydrobenzofurans, prevalent in many bioactive molecules. We performed a retrospective cohort review of all patients who underwent adrenalectomy for phaeochromocytoma from 2000 to 2016. Patients were divided into three time periods, early 2000-2005 (n = 17), middle 2006-2010 (n = 15) and late 2011-2016 (n = 24). The posterior retroperitoneoscopic adrenalectomy was introduced in 2011. Demographics and clinicopathological details were extracted. Median values for nominal data were compared using Mann-Whitney U-test. A chi-squared test was used to compare categorical data.

Sixty-one adrenalectomies were performed on 56 patients 19 open, 17 laparoscopic and 20 posterior retroperitoneoscopic adrenalectomies. The median length of operation decreased from 135 to 90 min from the early to the late time period (P > 0.05). Due to COVID-19, many educators and allied health practitioners are facing the challenge of rapidly transitioning to telepractice delivery of instructional reading and spelling procedures without being fully informed of the evidence.

A rapid review was conducted to provide educators, allied health practitioners and policymakers with a synthesis of valid, relevant and actionable evidence relating to telepractice delivery of instructional reading and spelling procedures. The aim was to investigate the nature and outcomes of studies examining instructional reading and spelling procedures delivered via telepractice to school-aged students.

A rapid review was undertaken in accordance with the eight-step process published by the Cochrane Rapid Reviews Methods Group. Medline (all databases), Embase, Cochrane and ProQuest Central were systematically searched with predefined search terms organized across four key concepts relating to the research questions.

Nine studies were included in this rapid review. Readalth practitioners need a thorough understanding of the student's telepractice environment and require adequate training and support to engage in telepractice service delivery. Educators and allied health practitioners should consider students for telepractice on a case-by-case basis. Practitioners should proceed cautiously with telepractice reading and spelling assessment, intervention and instruction, with the knowledge that the current available evidence is of limited quality.

Empirical pulmonary vein isolation (PVI) remains the cornerstone for catheter ablation of atrial fibrillation (AF). Various ablation strategies and modalities are continually tested with the aim of improving ablation outcomes. Although focal impulse and rotor modulation (FIRM)-guided ablation is currently used as an adjunct to PVI, evidence supporting this strategy is conflicting. We sought to examine whether the utilization of FIRM-guided ablation with or without PVI is associated with a decrease in all-atrial arrhythmia recurrence as compared to PVI alone.

A systematic review of PubMed, Cochrane, and Embase was performed for head-to-head study designs comparing outcomes of patients who underwent FIRM-guided ablation with or without PVI to those who underwent PVI alone. The primary efficacy endpoint was all-atrial arrhythmia recurrence. The secondary endpoints were complications rates and procedural characteristics.

Overall, six studies comprising 674 patients undergoing either FIRM-guided ablation ± PVI versus PVI were included (mean age 63.4 ± 9.2, male 74%, 9% paroxysmal AF, 91% nonparoxysmal AF). After a mean follow-up of 18.8 months, FIRM-guided ablation with or without PVI was not associated with improvement in all-atrial arrhythmia recurrence rate compared to PVI alone (43.4% vs. 45.9%, risk ratio [RR] 1.06; 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.77-1.47; p = .70). No statistically significant difference was noted in complication rates between the two groups (RR 1.66; 95% CI 0.08-34.54; p = .74).
