Vascular hyperpermeability by loss of endothelial barrier integrity is a hallmark of sepsis. Vimentin is involved in the regulation of the endothelial function and inflammatory response. However, the serum level of vimentin and its clinical relevance in pediatric severe sepsis (PSS) remain unknown.

We conducted a prospective study of PSS cases who were admitted to the pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) from January 2018 to December 2020.

A total of 108 patients with PSS with a median age of 19.5 month were enrolled. The hospital mortality rate was 19.44% (21/108). Comparing with healthy controls, serum vimentin levels on PICU admission were significantly higher in patients with PSS (P < 0.001). The area under the ROC curve for vimentin to predict the hospital mortality was 0.712 (95% CI 0.578-846) with a sensitivity of 71.43% and a specificity of 70.11%. Moreover, hospital mortality was significantly higher in patients with vimentin level over the cutoff value of 24.53 ng/ml than in patients with vimentin level below 24.53 ng/ml (P < 0.001).

To determine the validity and reliability of the CUIDAR instrument in mothers of premature infants.

Cross-sectional validation study. The study was conducted in two stages. First stage literature review, semantic adequacy, and judgement with 7 experts to establish content validity. In the second stage, the psychometric properties of the instrument were evaluated by exploratory factor analysis after its application to 207 mothers of premature infants.

In the expert's judgment, the content validity index was higher than 0.8, which indicated adequate representativeness of the items. Agreement between judges was moderate with a Fleiss Kappa of 0.51. The exploratory factor analysis established the adequacy of the sample with a Kaiser-Mayer-Olkin statistic of 0.859 and Bartlett's test of sphericity 2953.9 (p = 0.000). After considering various scenarios, a 7-dimensional, 33-item model explained 57.9% of the variance, with an overall Cronbach's alpha of 0.852 and adequate goodness-of-fit indices. The goodness-of-fit tests allowed us to establish through statistical significance χ<sup>2</sup> = 0.01, CFI = 0.92, BIC ≥ 10 and RMSEA = 0.05 indicating that the model has a good fit.

To analyse the impact that liver transplantation has had on the patient as a condition of their health.

A prospective study was carried out, the sample of which was made up of liver transplant patients at the Gregorio Marañón General University Hospital from November 2019 to August 2021. The hospital anxiety and depression scale, the Model for End-stage liver disease sodium and liver fragility index and the Transplant Effects Questionnaire Spanish were used. The data were analysed using descriptive statistics. The student's t-test was used for continuous variables and the chi-square test for categorical variables. For non-parametric samples, the Wilcoxon, Mann-Whitney U test and Kruskal-Wallis's sign were used.

The sample was made up of 60 patients with a mean age of 55.68 years, 70% being men. The mean anxiety and depression scores of the patients improved significantly after liver transplantation. The impact of physical health resulted that those patients with a higher Model for End-stage liver disease sodium were correlated with a greater feeling of guilt after transplantation. Furthermore, greater adherence to immunosuppressive treatment was directly correlated with greater disclosure and inversely with guilt, after transplantation.

Continuous Ambulatory Peritoneal Dialysis is an appropriate technique for older adults and its success is mainly based on the correct exchange technique. However, individuals may present barriers to compliance, due to deterioration of physical and cognitive function, depression, and prevalence of visual impairments.

A descriptive correlational study was conducted to determine the relationship between adherence to the continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis procedure and the limitations of care for older adults with chronic renal failure or their caregivers. For convenience, 54 participants from two institutions were selected. A home visit was made at exchange times and a certificate of sociodemographic variables was applied, data such as training days, time of performing the procedure and number of home visits they received were included. Adherence to the procedure was evaluated with a checklist of correctly performed steps in the dialysis technique with Ultra Bag® twin bag equipment (from Baxter).
