Work on controlling the propagation of surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs) through the use of external stimuli has attracted much attention due to the potential use of SPPs in nanoplasmonic integrated circuits. We report that the excitation of edge plasmon by TE-polarized light passing across gapped-SPP waveguides (G-SPPWs) leads to the suppressed transmission of long-range SPPs (LRSPPs) propagating along G-SPPWs. The induced current density by highly confined edge plasmon is numerically investigated to characterize the extended radiation length of decoupled LRSPPs by the TE-induced edge plasmon. The suppressed transmission of LRSPPs is confirmed using the measured extinction ratio of the plasmonic signals which are generated from the modulated optical signals, when compared to the extended radiation length calculated for a wide range of the input power. It is also shown that LRSPP transmission is sensitive to the excited power of edge plasmon in the gap through the permittivity change near the gap. Such a control of SPPs through the use of light could be boosted by the hybridized edge plasmon mode and a huge field enhancement using nanogap, gratings or metasurfaces, and could provide opportunities for ultrafast nano-plasmonic signal generation that is compatible with pervasive optical communication systems. The beam splitter is one of the important elements in optical waveguide circuits. To improve the performance of an optofluidic beam splitter, a microchannel including a two-stage main channel with divergent side walls and two pairs of inlet channels is proposed. Besides, the height of the inlets injected with cladding fluid is set to be less than the height of other parts of the microchannel. When we inject calcium chloride solution (cladding fluid) and deionized water (core fluid) into the inlet channels, the gradient refractive index (GRIN) developed in fluids flowing through the microchannel splits the incident light beam into two beams with a larger split angle. Moreover, the designed inlets yield a GRIN distribution which increases the light collected around the middle horizontal line on the objective plane, and so enhances the transmission efficiency of the device. To demonstrate the performance of the proposed beam splitter, we use polydimethylsiloxane to fabricate the microchannel. The results obtained by simulation and experiment are compared to show the effectiveness of the device and the validity of numerical simulation. The influence of the microchannel geometry and the flow rate ratio on the performance of the proposed beam splitter is investigated.Piezoelectric actuators are widely used in the optical field due to their high precision, compact structure, flexible design, and fast response. This paper presents a novel piezoelectric actuator with a bridge-type mechanism, which can be used to stabilize the images of an infrared imaging system. The bridge amplification mechanism is used to amplify the actuation displacement, and its structural parameters are optimized by the response surface method. The control strategy of the image stabilization system is formulated, and the overall structure of the infrared image stabilization system is designed according to the principle of image stabilization and the control strategy. The prototype was fabricated and verified by a series of experiments. In the test, the laminated piezoelectric ceramics are used as the driving element, and its maximum output displacement was about 17 μm under a voltage of 100 V. find more Firstly, the performance of the piezoelectric amplification mechanism was tested, and the maximum displacement of the piezoelectric micro-motion mechanism was 115 μm. The displacement amplification ratio of the mechanism was 5.7. Then, the step distance and response time of the micro-displacement mechanism were measured by inputting the stepping signal. When the input voltage increased to 3 V, 5 V, and 7 V, the stepping displacements of the mechanism were 2.4 μm, 4.1 μm, and 5.8 μm. Finally, the image stabilization effect of the designed mechanism was verified by imaging timing control and feedback signal processing.Network-on-Chip is a good approach to working on intra-chip communication. Networks with irregular topologies may be better suited for specific applications because of their architectural nature. A good design space exploration can help the design of the network to obtain more optimized topologies. This paper proposes a way of optimizing networks with irregular topologies through the use of a genetic algorithm. The network proposed here has heterogeneous routers that aim to optimize the network and support applications with real-time tasks. The goal is to find networks that are optimized for average latency and percentage of real-time packets delivered within the deadline. The results show that we have been able to find networks that can deliver all the real-time packets, obtain acceptable latency values, and shrink the chip area. The need for passive sensors to monitor changes in temperature has been critical in several packaging related applications. Most of these applications involve the use of bar codes, inks and equipment that involve constant complex electronic manipulation. The objective of this paper is to explore solutions to temperature measurements that not only provide product information but also the condition of the product in real time, specifically shelf-life. The study will explore previously proposed solutions as well as plans for modified approaches that involve the use of smart polymers as temperature sensors. In our previous work, TaF5 and VCl3 were added to Mg, leading to the preparation of samples with good hydriding and dehydriding properties. In this work, Ni was added together with TaF5 and VCl3 to increase the reaction rates with hydrogen and the hydrogen-storage capacity of Mg. The addition of Ni together with TaF5 and VCl3 improved the hydriding and dehydriding properties of the TaF5 and VCl3-added Mg. MgH2 was also added with Ni, TaF5, and VCl3 and Mg-x wt% MgH2-1.25 wt% Ni-1.25 wt% TaF5-1.25 wt% VCl3 (x = 0, 1, 5, and 10) were prepared by reactive mechanical milling. The addition of MgH2 decreased the particle size, lowered the temperature at which hydrogen begins to release rapidly, and increased the hydriding and dehydriding rates for the first 5 min. Adding 1 and 5 wt% MgH2 increased the quantity of hydrogen absorbed for 60 min, Ha (60 min), and the quantity of hydrogen released for 60 min, Hd (60 min). The addition of MgH2 improved the hydriding-dehydriding cycling performance. Among the samples, the sample with x = 5 had the highest hydriding and dehydriding rates for the first 5 min and the best cycling performance, with an effective hydrogen-storage capacity of 6.65 wt%.In this paper, a common and widely used micro-heat sink (H/S) was redesigned and simulated using computational fluid dynamics methods. This H/S has a large number of microchannels in which the walls are wavy (wavy microchannel heat sink WMCHS). To improve cooling, two (Al2O3 and CuO) water-based nanofluids (NFs) were used as cooling fluids, and their performance was compared. For this purpose, studies were carried out at three Reynolds numbers (Re) of 500, 1000, and 1500 when the volume percent (φ) of the nanoparticles (NPs) was increased to 2%. The mixture two-phase (T-P) model was utilized to simulate the NFs. Results showed that using the designed WMCHS compared to the common H/S reduces the average and maximum temperatures (T-Max) up to 2 °C. Moreover, using the Al2O3 NF is more suitable in terms of WMCHS temperature uniformity as well as its thermal resistance compared to the CuO NF. Increasing the φ is desirable in terms of temperature, but it enhances the pumping power (PP). Besides, the Figure of Merit (FOM) was investigated, and it was found that the value is greater at a higher volume percentage.Micro-electromechanical systems (MEMS) bandpass filters based on arrays of electrostatically driven coupled beams have been demonstrated at MHz frequencies. High performance follows from the high Q-factor of mechanical resonators, and electrostatic transduction allows tuning, matching and actuation. For high-order filters, there is a conflict between the transduction mechanism and the coupling arrangement needed for dynamic synchronization it is not possible to achieve synchronization and tuning simultaneously using a single voltage. Here we propose a general solution, based on the addition of mass-loaded beams at the ends of the array. These beams deflect for direct current (DC) voltages, and therefore allow electrostatic tuning, but do not respond to in-band alternating current (AC) voltages and hence do not interfere with synchronization. Spurious modes generated by these beams may be damped, leaving a good approximation to the desired response. The approach is introduced using a lumped element model and verified using stiffness matrix and finite element models for in-plane arrays with parallel plate drives and shown to be tolerant of the exact mass value. The principle may allow compensation of fabrication-induced variations in complex filters.MgH2 has become a hot spot in the research of hydrogen storage materials, due to its high theoretical hydrogen storage capacity. However, the poor kinetics and thermodynamic properties of hydrogen absorption and desorption seriously hinder the development of this material. Ti-based materials can lead to good effects in terms of reducing the temperature of MgH2 in hydrogen absorption and desorption. MXene is a novel two-dimensional transition metal carbide or carbonitride similar in structure to graphene. Ti3C2 is one of the earliest and most widely used MXenes. Single-layer Ti3C2 can only exist in solution; in comparison, multilayer Ti3C2 (ML-Ti3C2) also exists as a solid powder. Thus, ML-Ti3C2 can be easily composited with MgH2. The MgH2+ML-Ti3C2 composite hydrogen storage system was successfully synthesized by ball milling. The experimental results show that the initial desorption temperature of MgH2-6 wt.% ML-Ti3C2 is reduced to 142 °C with a capacity of 6.56 wt.%. The Ea of hydrogen desorption in the MgH2-6 wt.% ML-Ti3C2 hydrogen storage system is approximately 99 kJ/mol, which is 35.3% lower than that of pristine MgH2. The enhancement of kinetics in hydrogen absorption and desorption by ML-Ti3C2 can be attributed to two synergistic effects one is that Ti facilitates the easier dissociation or recombination of hydrogen molecules, while the other is that electron transfer generated by multivalent Ti promotes the easier conversion of hydrogen. These findings help to guide the hydrogen storage properties of metal hydrides doped with MXene. The jumping motion of legged robots is an effective way to overcome obstacles in the rugged microgravity planetary exploration environment. At the same time, a quadruped robot with a manipulator can achieve operational tasks during movement, which is more practical. However, the additional manipulator will restrict the jumping ability of the quadruped robot due to the increase in the weight of the system, and more active degrees of freedom will increase the control complexity. To improve the jumping height of a quadruped robot with a manipulator, a bio-inspired take-off maneuver based on the coordination of upper and lower limbs is proposed in this paper. The kinetic energy and potential energy of the system are increased by driving the manipulator-end (ME) to swing upward, and the torso driven by the legs will delay reaching the required peak speed due to the additional load caused by the accelerated ME. When the acceleration of ME is less than zero, it will pull the body upward, which reduces the peak power of the leg joints.
