Adopting the protection motivation theory and self-determination theory as frameworks, the present study examined whether the mental well-being of health care workers is determined by a combination of COVID-19-related factors (exposure and resources), organizational factors, and individual and attitudinal factors.

The present study is based on Eurofound's Living, Working, and COVID-19 survey, and the fieldwork for this survey was performed via uncontrolled convenience sampling throughout June and July 2020 in the 27 European Union countries. This research utilized a subsample of 1824 health sector employees and 11,750 workers in the other service industries. Further, to meet the objectives of this study, different linear regression models are estimated.

Despite the close contact of health care workers with COVID-19, we found that the risk of contracting the coronavirus does not explain their poor or high well-being. However, the availability of personal protection equipment and mistrust in the national health system contribute to well-being, along with other organizational (eg, job insecurity) and individual-attitudinal factors (eg, health and life satisfaction).

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of surgical mask use during high intensity interval exercise (HIIE) on physiological and perceptual responses in hot and temperate environments.

In a randomized fashion, 10 healthy participants completed two HIIE sessions in a 36°C hot (HUE-HOT) and two HIIE sessions in a 23°C temperate environment (HIIE-TEMP) while wearing (MASK) and not wearing a surgical mask (CON).

No differences in physiological variables were found between MASK and CON during HIIE. An increase in perceived dyspnea and average RPE was found comparing MASK and CON. Interaction effects showed the greatest changes in perceived dyspnea and average RPE occurred in the HIIE-HOT/MASK condition.

The prevalence of obesity and hypertriglyceridemia is an alarming worldwide health issue. Mitochondria play a central role in these disorders as they control cell metabolism.

The aim of the present study was to characterize mitochondrial homeostasis in subcutaneous and visceral adipose tissue (SAT and VAT) in grade III obese patients with and without hypertriglyceridemia. Moreover, this study presents the evaluation of mitochondrial fitness as a marker for hypertriglyceridemia improvement.

Participants consumed the glucose drink radiolabeled with 99mTc-phytate colloid following an overnight fast. GE (scintigraphy), plasma glucose, GLP-1, insulin, and C-peptide were measured between 0 and 180 minutes.

Dual blockade of Bruton's tyrosine kinase with ibrutinib and selinexor has potential to deepen responses for patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) and non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL).

In this phase I study (clinicaltrials.gov NCT02303392), adult patients with CLL/NHL, relapsed/refractory to ≥1 prior therapy were enrolled. Patients received weekly oral selinexor and daily oral ibrutinib in 28-day cycles until progression or intolerance. Primary objective was to determine MTD.

Included patients had CLL (n = 16) or NHL (n = 18; 9 Richter transformation, 6 diffuse large B-cell lymphoma, and 3 mantle cell lymphoma). Median prior therapies were 4 (range = 1-14) and 59% previously received ibrutinib. The established MTD was 40 mg of selinexor (days 1, 8, 15) and 420 mg daily ibrutinib. Common nonhematologic adverse events were fatigue (56%), nausea (53%), anorexia (41%), and diarrhea (41%) and were mostly low grade. Overall response rate was 32%. An additional 47% achieved stable disease (SD), some prolos to deepen remissions in patients with CLL receiving ibrutinib therapy.

Tree growth in plateau forests is critically limited by harsh climatic conditions. Many mathematical statistical methods have been used to identify the relationships between tree growth and climatic factors, but there is still uncertainty regarding the relative importance of these factors across different regions. We tested major climatic limits at 30 sites to provide insights into the main climatic limits for juniper trees (Juniperus tibetica Kom.) across the southern Tibetan Plateau.

We analysed the linear and non-linear relationships between tree growth and climatic factors using Pearson correlation statistics and a process-based forward Vaganov-Shashkin-Lite (VS-Lite) model, respectively. These relationships were used to identify the strength of the influence of different climatic factors throughout the species' growing season and to identify the main climatic factors limiting tree growth.

The educational quality that these students experience will affect future success, but little research to date has focused on the professional development (PD) of their instructors. We offer an exploratory study on PD needs and preferences of ten 2-year college biology instructors who have experience with evidence-based instructional practices. Using a literature review and interview data, we address four research questions. We contextualize the interview results by describing interviewee teaching styles and their teaching and inclusion strategies, drawing on categorizations from education research literatures in and beyond biology. We then summarize interviewee experiences, preferences, and recommendations for PD. Most interviewees preferred PD that could be readily applied to their courses and included follow-up community support. While our purposive sample is limited, we note high levels of interest in PD supporting inclusive pedagogy and non-biology learning goals, such as study skills, metacognition, and quantitative skills. We describe implications for inclusive design of biology instructor PD.Silk fibroin (SF) is an attractive material for composing bioinks suitable for three-dimensional (3D) bioprinting. However, the low viscosity of SF solutions obtained through common dissolution methods limits 3D-bioprinting applications without the addition of thickeners or partial gelation beforehand. Here, we report a method of 3D bioprinting low-viscosity SF solutions without additives. We combined a method of freeform reversible embedding of suspended hydrogels, known as the FRESH method, with horseradish peroxidase-catalyzed cross-linking. Using this method, we successfully fabricated 3D SF hydrogel constructs from low-viscosity SF ink (10% w/w, 50 mPa s at 1 s-1 shear rate), which does not yield 3D constructs when printed onto a plate in air. Studies using mouse fibroblasts confirmed that the printing process was cell-friendly. Additionally, cells enclosed in printed SF hydrogel constructs maintained > 90% viability for 11 days of culture. These results demonstrate that the 3D bioprinting technique developed in this study enables new 3D bioprinting applications using SF inks and thus has a great potential to contribute to tissue engineering and regenerative medicine.Quantifying the effect of public health actions on population health is essential when justifying sustained public health investment. Two types of lab-scale, 3D printed plastic, fixed-film, flow-through photocatalytic reactors are described, both of which are sinusoidal in shape, and only differ in that one has no baffles, reactor A, whereas the other has, reactor B. Both reactors are lined with a P25 TiO2/polylactic acid (PLA) coating, which, after UVA pre-conditioning, is used to photocatalyse the bleaching of circulating aqueous solutions of either methylene blue, MB, or phenol, PhOH, repeatably, without any obvious loss of activity. The rate of the photocatalysed bleaching of MB exhibited by reactor B shows a much lower dependence upon flow rate than reactor A, due to the greater lateral mixing of the laminar flow streams produced by the baffles. The photonic efficiencies of reactor A for the photocatalysed bleaching of MB and PhOH were determined to be 0.025% and 0.052%, respectively, and the photocatalytic space-time yields (PSTY) to be 0.
