DSC on the other hand provided complex information on joint decomposition and carbon monoxide oxidation reactions - the proposed reaction mechanism includes completion of two reaction paths composed of consequent chemical reactions. A mechanistic view of the complex reaction path is discussed in terms of the diffusion barrier limiting the oxidation step.By means of density functional theory computations, we explored the electrochemical performance of an FeSe monolayer as an anode material for lithium and non-lithium ion batteries (LIBs and NLIBs). The electronic structure, adsorption, diffusion, and storage behavior of different metal atoms (M) in FeSe were systematically investigated. Our computations revealed that M adsorbed FeSe (M = Li, Na and K) systems show metallic characteristics that give rise to good electrical conductivity and mobility with low activation energies for diffusion (0.16, 0.13 and 0.11 eV for Li, Na, and K, respectively) of electrons and metal atoms in the materials, indicative of a fast charge/discharge rate. In addition, the theoretical capacities of the FeSe monolayer for Li, Na and K can reach up to 658, 473, and 315 mA h g-1, respectively, higher than that of commercial graphite (372 mA h g-1 for Li, 284 mA h g-1 for Na, and 273 mA h g-1 for K), and the average open-circuit voltage is moderate (0.38-0.88 V for Li, Na and K). All these characteristics suggest that the FeSe monolayer is a potential anode material for alkali-metal rechargeable batteries.Organic-metal chalcogenides (OMCs) are proposed as a new family of two-dimensional (2D) chemiresistive sensing materials. Few-layer Ag(SPh-NH2), one of the OMCs, fully and orderly covered with predesigned -NH2 groups as "receptors", shows the highest sensitivity, excellent selectivity and reversibility in response to NO2 among all the reported 2D chemiresistive sensing materials at room temperature. We have fabricated an ultrasensitive exosome biosensor based on a multipedal DNA walker with a core of target exosomes. Specific recognition is achieved by introducing a CD63 aptamer and facile separation is obtained with magnetic Fe3O4@Au nanoparticles. A limit of detection down to 6/μL is obtained with excellent selectivity.Anisotropic films composed of aligned CsPbBr3 nanowires (NWs) have been successfully fabricated using a mechanical rubbing method. The films with a dense and uniform morphology show polarization photoluminescence (PL) behavior. Combined with an optimal device structure, a polarized light-emitting diode (LED) with a turn-on voltage as low as 6.5 V was obtained.BACKGROUND Diagnosis of rare diseases possesses a great challenge in pediatric hepatology because expert knowledge in the field is extremely insufficient. The study aims to explore new findings and collect diagnostic experience from pediatric rare liver diseases. METHODS The large-sample case analysis study included pediatric patients who had liver-involved rare diseases. All cases underwent liver biopsy and/or gene sequencing. RESULTS A total of 1158 pediatric patients were identified. Liver-based genetic diseases were most frequent (737 cases), followed by liver damages involved in extrahepatic or systemic disorders (151 cases) and cryptogenic hepatobilliary abnormalities (123 cases). Of note, diagnoses of 16 patients were re-evaluated according to genetic results combined with clinical pointers. In addition, 101 patients who underwent gene sequencing remained undiagnosed. Of them, 55 had negative genetic findings, 30 harbored mutations that failed to meet their typically pathogenic condition, and 16 had de within rare genetic disease entities and not all rare disorders are genetic, clinicians should not over-depend on the genetic results in the diagnosis.BACKGROUND Birthweight is the most commonly used proxy marker but does not adequately define true nutritional status. Modalities like DXA (dual energy x-ray absorptiometry) and TOtal Body Electric Conductivity (TOBEC) have been validated to assess body composition but their accuracy in neonates has not been established. The PEAPOD (COSMED, Rome Italy) has been validated as an accurate tool for measuring percentage body fat (%BF) in newborns. The study aim was to determine the gender-specific %BF percentiles at different gestations (35-41 weeks) for a healthy population of newborn infants. A secondary aim was to determine whether there is any relationship between %BF and neonatal condition at birth (cord gas measurement). METHODS %BF was measured using air displacement plethysmography (PEAPOD) within 6 h of birth. RESULTS There is an increase in the mean %BF with increasing gestation for female and males from 36 weeks' gestation in the 7667 infants who underwent assessment. Females have a higher %BF than their male equivalents. There was no correlation between %BF and cord pH. CONCLUSION Gender and gestation are both important in determining the quantiles and mean %BF at birth. Selleck YO-01027 There was no correlation between low cord pH and %BF. IMPACT Measuring the percentage body fat (PEAPOD) at birth is a useful marker of an infant's nutritional status. This is the largest hospital-based cohort of gestational age and gender-specific %BF in healthy newborns. The normative graphs from this study will help to accurately determine high-risk infants with low %BF so they can be monitored appropriately.BACKGROUND Levetiracetam (LEV) is an antiepileptic drug that promotes recovery of neurological function by alleviating inflammatory reactions. However, it is not known whether it can improve secondary brain injury after intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH). The aim of this study was to determine whether LEV can reduce early inflammatory response after ICH in rats. MATERIAL AND METHODS An in vitro model of early inflammation was created by treating microglia cells with lipopolysaccharide (LPS). After exposure to various concentrations of LEV, the expression levels of NF-kappaB and STAT3 and inflammatory factors such as interleukin (IL)-1ß and tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-alpha in microglia were detected. In vivo, autologous blood was used to induce the rat ICH model. The effects of LEV on post-cerebral hemorrhagic inflammatory response were examined using neurobehavioral tests, FJC staining, brain water content testing, and analysis of protein expression levels of NF-kappaB, JAK2, STAT3, and inflammatory factors. RESULTS LEV treatment significantly reduced the expression of inflammatory factors and protein expression levels of NF-kappaB and STAT3 in LPS-treated microglia cells (P less then 0.05). In male Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats, LEV treatment markedly decreased the volume of hematoma and the number of degenerative neurons (P less then 0.05). link2 It also improved the neurological function and relieved brain edema. The protein expression levels of NF-kappaB, JAK2, and STAT3 were significantly lower in the ICH+LEV group than in the control group (P less then 0.05). CONCLUSIONS Our study suggests that treatment with LEV alleviates early inflammatory responses induced by ICH. Mechanistically, LEV inhibited the JAK2-STAT3 signaling pathway and reduced neuronal injury around the hematoma, and ameliorated brain edema, all of which promoted recovery of nerve function after hemorrhage. The format of the original Hamilton Rating Scale for Depression (HAM-D) was unstructured only general instructions were provided for rating individual items. Over the years, a number of modified versions of the HAM-D have been proposed. They differ not only in the number of items, but also in modalities of administration. Structured versions, including item definitions, anchor points and semi-structured or structured interview questions, were developed. This comprehensive review was conducted to examine the clinimetric properties of the different versions of the HAM-D. The aim was to identify the HAM-D versions that best display the clinimetric properties of reliability, validity, and sensitivity to change. The search was conducted on MEDLINE, Scopus, Web of Science, and PubMed, and yielded a total of 35,473 citations, but only the most representative studies were included. The structured versions of the HAM-D were found to display the highest inter-rater and test-retest reliability. The Clinical Interview for Depression and the 6-item HAM-D showed the highest sensitivity in differentiating active treatment from placebo. The findings indicate that the HAM-D is a valid and sensitive clinimetric index, which should not be discarded in view of obsolete and not clinically relevant psychometric criteria. The HAM-D, however, requires an informed use unstructured forms should be avoided and the type of HAM-D version that is selected should be specified in the registration of the study protocol and in the methods of the trial. © 2020 S. Venetoclax has shown synergism with BCR-ABL1 tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKI) in preclinical studies. However, clinical activity of venetoclax and TKI-based regimens is unknown. METHODS We conducted a retrospective study on patients with Ph+ AML (n = 7) and CML-MBP (n = 9) who received venetoclax combined with TKI-based regimens at our institution. RESULTS Median patient age was 42 years, and the median number of prior therapy cycles was 5 (range 2-8). Nine patients received decitabine-based, and 7 received intensive chemotherapy-based regimens. Ten patients (63%) received ponatinib. The overall response rate (ORR) in 15 evaluable patients was 60% (1 complete remission [CR], 6 CR with incomplete hematologic recovery [CRi], 1 morphologic leukemia-free state, and 1 partial response). The ORR was 43% in Ph+ AML and 75% in CML-MBP. The median overall survival (OS) for all patients was 3.6 months, for AML OS was 2.0 months, and for CML-MBP OS was 10.9 months. The median relapse-free survival for AML and CML-MBP was 3.6 and 3.9 months, respectively. Compared to nonresponders, patients achieving CR/CRi had higher baseline Ph+ metaphases and BCR-ABL1 PCR. CONCLUSIONS Combination therapy of venetoclax with TKI-based regimens shows encouraging activity in very heavily pretreated, advanced Ph+ leukemias, particularly CML-MBP. © 2020 S. Karger AG, Basel.INTRODUCTION Peptic lesions usually develop when there is an imbalance between aggressive drivers and gastro-protective mediators that guard the lining of the gastrointestinal tract. The most crucial of these mediators are antioxidants, whose loss may predispose to oxidative stress, which is believed to be the main aggravator of several diseases including peptic ulcer. Proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) are drugs that are highly effective and widely used for therapeutic management of peptic disorders through inhibition of gastric acid secretion. In spite of this, oxidative damage may continue to be a major issue that can predispose to future lesions. OBJECTIVE The present study is designed to explore the possible antioxidant capability of different PPIs, including omeprazole, esomeprazole, lansoprazole, pantoprazole, and rabeprazole, in an aim to suggest an agent that, in addition to its acid-suppression properties, can provide antioxidant profit. link3 METHODS The antioxidant activity of different PPIs was evaluated calorimetrically to test the ability of each drug to quench oxygen free radical, using the well-known stable free radical α,α-diphenyl-β-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH), and compared to ascorbic acid (AA; vitamin C).
