A random forest-based classifier can categorize images based on the presence of middle ear effusions and biofilms. This study demonstrates that our briefcase OCT system coupled with machine learning can provide user-invariant classification results of middle ear conditions, which may greatly improve the utility of this technology for the diagnosis and management of middle ear infections. The global prevalence of obesity has been increasing in recent years and is now the major public health challenge worldwide. While the risks of developing metabolic disorders (MD) including obesity and type 2 diabetes (T2D) have been historically thought to be essentially driven by increased caloric intake and lack of exercise, this is insufficient to account for the observed changes in disease trends. Based on human epidemiological and pre-clinical experimental studies, this overview questioned the role of non-nutritional components as contributors to the epidemic of MD with a special emphasis on food contaminants and social stress. This overview examines the impact of early life adverse events (ELAE) focusing on exposures to food contaminants or social stress on weight gain and T2D occurrence in the offspring and explores potential mechanisms leading to MD in adulthood. Indeed, summing up data on both ELAE models in parallel allowed us to identify common patterns that appear worthwhile to study in MD etiology. This overview provides some evidence of a link between ELAE-induced intestinal barrier disruption, inflammation, epigenetic modifications, and the occurrence of MD. This overview sums up evidence that MD could have developmental origins and that ELAE are risk factors for MD at adulthood independently of nutritional status. We compared music emotion ratings and their physiological correlates when the participants listened to music at home and in the laboratory. We hypothesized that music emotions are stronger in a familiar environment, that is, at home. Participants listened to their self-selected favorite and neutral music excerpts at home and in the laboratory for 10 min in each environment. They completed the questionnaires about their emotional states and gave saliva samples for the analyses of the stress hormone cortisol. We found that in the context of music listening, the participants' emotion ratings differed between home and the laboratory. Furthermore, the cortisol levels were generally lower at home than in the laboratory and decreased after music listening at home and in the laboratory. However, the modulatory effects of music listening on cortisol levels did not differ between the home and the laboratory. Our exploratory multimethodological data offer novel insight about the psychological and physiological consequences of music listening. These data reveal the sensitivity of the current research methods to investigate human emotions in various contexts without excluding the use of laboratory environment in investigating them. The response to immunotherapy has been little investigated in overweight and obese cancer patients. We evaluated the relationships between BMI, toxicity, and survival in patients treated by immunotherapy for metastatic cancer. We included metastatic cancer patients treated by immunotherapy between January 2017 and June 2020 at the Centre Léon Bérard. In total, 272 patients were included 64% men and 36% women, with a median age of 61.4 years. BMI ≥ 25 in 34.2% and 50% had non-small cell lung cancer (n = 136). Most received monotherapy, with nivolumab in 41.9% and pembrolizumab in 37.9%. Toxicity, mostly dysthyroiditis, occurred in 41%. Median overall survival (OS), estimated by Kaplan-Meier analysis, was significantly longer for patients with a BMI ≥ 25 than for those with a BMI less then 25 (24.8 versus 13.7 months HR = 0.63; 95% CI 0.44-0.92, p = 0.015), and for patients experiencing toxicity than for those without toxicity (NR versus 7.8 months, HR = 0.22; 95% CI 0.15-0.33, p less then 0.001). Adjusted OS was associated with toxicity, and the occurrence of toxicity was associated with sex and histological features but not with BMI. Thus, being overweight and experiencing toxicity was associated with longer overall survival in patients treated by immunotherapy. More attention should be paid to body composition in the care of cancer patients. The constantly growing resistance of bacteria to antibiotics and other antibacterial substances has led us to an era in which alternative antimicrobial therapies are urgently required. One promising approach is to target bacterial pathogens using metal complexes. Therefore, we investigated the possibility of utilizing series of manganese(II) complexes with heteroaromatic ligands Alcohol, aldehyde, ketone, and carboxylic acid as inhibitors for biofilm formation of Pseudomonas aeruginosa. check details To complete the series mentioned above, Mn-dipyCO-NO3 with dipyridin-2-ylmethanone (dipyCO) was isolated, and then structurally (single-crystal X-ray analysis) and physicochemically characterized (FT-IR, TG, CV, magnetic susceptibility). The antibacterial activity of the compounds against representative Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria was also evaluated. It is worth highlighting that the results of the cytotoxicity assays performed (MTT, DHI HoloMonitorM4) indicate high cell viability of the human fibroblast (VH10) in the presence of the Mn(II) complexes. Additionally, the inhibition effect of catalase activity by the complexes was studied. This paper focused on such aspects as studying different types of intermolecular interactions in the crystals of the Mn(II) complexes as well as their possible effect on anti-biofilm activity, the structure-activity relationship of the Mn(II) complexes, and regularity between the electrochemical properties of the Mn(II) complexes and anti-biofilm activity.Incorporation of crop straw into the soil along with inorganic fertilization is a widespread agricultural practice and is essential in nutrient-scarce soils, such as iron-rich (ferruginous) paddy soils. The responses of soil bacterial communities to straw incorporation under different nitrogen inputs in iron-rich soils remain unclear. Therefore, 6000 kg ha-1 dry wheat (Triticum aestivum L. cv. Zhengmai 12) straw was applied to a rice paddy with and without nitrogen amendment (0, 80, 300, and 450 kg ha-1 N as urea), to investigate its effects on soil fertility and bacterial community structure. Organic matter, total nitrogen, and water contents tended to decrease in straw-incorporated soils with different nitrogen inputs. Proteobacteria was the dominant bacterial phylum across all treatments (26.3-32.5% of total sequences), followed by Chloroflexi, Acidobacteria, and Nitrospirae. Up to 18.0% of all the taxa in the bacterial communities were associated with iron cycling. Straw incorporation with nitrogen amendment increased the relative abundance of iron oxidizers, Gallionellaceae, while decreasing the relative abundance of iron reducers, Geobacteraceae.
