Following a systematic literature retrieval of studies, meta-analyses were conducted by pooling the standardized mean differences (SMDs) using random-effects models to assess the efficacy of tDCS on cerebellar ataxia, measured by standard clinical rating scales. Domain-specific effects of tDCS on gait and hand function were further evaluated based on 8-m walk and 9-hole peg test performance times, respectively. To determine the safety of tDCS, the incidences of adverse effects were analyzed using risk differences. Out of 293 citations, 5 randomized controlled trials involving a total of 72 participants with cerebellar ataxia were included. Meta-analysis indicated a 26.1% (p = 0.003) improvement in ataxia immediately after tDCS with sustained efficacy over months (28.2% improvement after 3 months, p = 0.04) when compared with sham stimulation. tDCS seems to be domain-specific as the current analysis suggested a positive effect on gait (16.3% improvement, p = 0.04) and failed to reveal differences for hand function (p = 0.10) with respect to sham. The incidence of adverse events in tDCS and sham groups was similar. tDCS is an effective intervention for mitigating ataxia symptoms with lasting results that can be sustained for months. This treatment shows preferential effects on gait ataxia and is relatively safe.

Despite recent advances in the study of amphimerosis, aspects related to the taxonomy of the opisthorchiid species involved in human infection in Ecuador are not completely known. In the present study, previous morphological descriptions of Amphimerus sp. found in human beings and animals from Ecuador were re-studied, aiming to the identification of the parasite.

The morphological traits and measures of isolates ofAmphimerus from Ecuadorian foci of transmission previously reported by different authors were critically analyzed and used to achieve the specific identification of the parasite. Morphological and morphometric data, including measures of structures, ratio between suckers, and disposition of vitellaria, were used for taxonomic identification based on taxonomic keys, reviews, and descriptive works.

The morphological study based on literature data reveals that Amphimerus lancea (Diesing, 1850) is a species potentially involved in human amphimerosis in Ecuador. The main characteristics here used fparasite distribution and animal reservoirs are updated and the possibility of new areas of occurrence of human diseases in South America is highlighted. Our aim was to investigate the psychosocial outcomes of the donors whose recipients died after living donor liver transplantation (LDLT).

Forty-one donors whose recipients died and 87 donors whose recipients were alive after LDLT at Inonu University Liver Transplantation Institute between 2012 and 2017 were included into the study. link2 Demographic data form, Beck anxiety scale, Beck depression scale, Beck Hopelessness Scale, Posttraumatic Growth Inventory, Decision Regret Scale, Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support, and general evaluation questionnaire (24 questions) were used in all donors by face to face questioning. In addition to the descriptive statistical analysis, chi-square and student's t tests were used to evaluate the differences between the groups.

Hepatocellular carcinoma is a heterogenous group of disease with a spectrum of disease presentations that developed on the setting of liver cirrhosis, although the achievements made in the imaging techniques have enabled the early diagnosis in nearly 60% of the cases in cirrhotic patients. However, hepatobiliary centers and tertiary liver transplant centers have to treat patients with advanced hepatocellular carcinoma with portal venous tumor thrombosis.

The environment inside a TEM is not favorable for biological material (high vacuum and high energy electrons). Also biological samples have little or no intrinsic electron contrast and rarely do they naturally exist in very thin sheets, as is required for optimum resolution in the TEM. To prepare these samples for imaging in the TEM therefore requires extensive processing which can alter the ultrastructure of the material. Here we describe a method which aims to minimize preparation artifacts by freezing the samples at high pressure to instantaneously preserve ultrastructural detail, then rapidly substituting the ice with resin to provide a firm matrix which can be cut into thin sections for imaging.
