Low back pain (LBP) individuals with high levels of fear of pain might display changes in motor behavior, which leads to disability. This study aimed to systematically review the influence of pain-related threat beliefs or disability on trunk kinematic or postural control in LBP.

Eight electronic databases were searched from January 1990 to July 1, 2020. Meta-analysis using random-effect model was performed for 18 studies on the association between pain-related threat beliefs or disability and lumbar range of motion. Pearson r correlations were used as the effect size.

Negative correlations were observed between lumbar range of motion (ROM) and pain-related threat beliefs (r = - 0.31, p < 0.01, 95% CI - 0.39, - 0.24) and disability (r =  - 0.24, p < 0.01, 95% CI - 0.40, - 0.21). Nonsignificant correlations were reported between pain-related threat beliefs and center of pressure parameters during static standing in 75% of the studies. In 33% of the studies, moderate negative correlations between disability and postural control were observed.

Motor behaviors are influenced by several factors, and therefore, the relatively weak associations observed between reduced lumbar ROM with higher pain-related threat beliefs and perceived disability, and postural control with disability are to be expected. This could aid clinicians in the assessment and planning rehabilitation interventions.

However, the underlying mechanisms and the effectiveness of cover crops in reducing nitrate leaching across species, soil types, agronomic management, and climates remain elusive. A random-effects analysis was established to investigate seven moderating variables in 41 articles. Results showed that globally, cover crops reduced nitrate leaching by 69% compared with fallow while demonstrating no effect on water drainage. Overall, cover crops from Brassicaceae and Poaceae families showed the greatest effect with 75% and 52% reduction in nitrate leaching, respectively. Outpatient therapies for mild-to-moderate disease have reduced hospitalizations and deaths in clinical trials, but the real-world effectiveness of monoclonal antibodies and oral antiviral agents in solid organ transplant recipients (SOTR) with coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) is largely uncharacterized. We conducted a single-center, retrospective review of 122 SOTR diagnosed with COVID-19 in the outpatient setting during the Omicron surge to address this knowledge gap. The mean age was 54 years, 57% were males, and 67% were kidney transplant recipients. The mean time from transplant to COVID-19 diagnosis was 75 months. Forty-nine (40%) received molnupiravir, 24 (20%) received sotrovimab, and 1 (0.8%) received nirmatrelvir/ritonavir. No outpatient therapy was administered in 48 (39%). All 122 SOTR had >30 days follow-up. Rates of hospitalization within 30 days of initiating therapy for molnupiravir, nirmatrelvir/ritonavir, and sotrovimab were 16% (8/49), 0% (0/1), and 8% (2/24), respectively, compared to 27% (13/48) in patients without outpatient therapy. There were no deaths in those who received any therapy versus 3 (6%) deaths in patients without outpatient therapy (p = .002). Overall, our experience suggests a role for monoclonal antibodies and oral antiviral agents in reducing COVID-19-related morbidity and mortality in SOTR.

This study aimed to introduce a digitally guided in situ autogenous onlay grafting technique and compare its effectiveness with the conventional (ex situ) onlay technique in augmenting horizontal bone defects of the anterior maxilla.

This retrospective cohort study included 24 patients who had received autogenous onlay bone grafts combined with guided bone regeneration (GBR) in the anterior maxilla. Fourteen patients were recruited into the in situ onlay grafting group (EG), and 10 were recruited into the ex situ onlay group (CG), defined by the donor sites. The clinical parameters, radiographic changes, micro-CT, and histological processes were evaluated after a mean follow-up period of 1.7years.

The field has diversified rapidly from one restricted to impacts on a handful of vertebrates, to one in which impacts have been quantified across a broad array of marine and coastal habitats and species. Here, we review the current understanding of ALAN impacts in diverse marine ecosystems. The review presents the current state of knowledge across key marine and coastal ecosystems (sandy and rocky shores, coral reefs and pelagic) and taxa (birds and sea turtles), introducing how ALAN can mask seabird and sea turtle navigation, cause changes in animals predation patterns and failure of coral spawning synchronization, as well as inhibition of zooplankton Diel Vertical Migration. Mitigation measures are recommended, however, while strategies for mitigation were easily identified, barriers to implementation are poorly understood. The relationship of the SDGs with neurological disorders and how the achievement of the SDGs intersects with the future of neurological practice have not been comprehensively examined. However, the incidence of neurological disorders, the outcomes of people living with neurological disorders, and the training of future neurologists can be interlinked, directly or indirectly, with programming for the SDGs and their eventual achievement. Each SDG is reviewed in the context of neurology. This lens can inform programming and policy, enhance research and training, and improve inter-sectoral action for neurological disorders worldwide.

Facial nerve palsy is a cardinal manifestation of neurosarcoidosis, but dedicated studies of this disease feature have not been conducted. We sought to clarify the impact of facial palsy on the diagnosis of neurosarcoidosis, its subsequent clinicoradiographic evolution, and eventual treatment decisions.

A single-center retrospective analysis of patients with neurosarcoidosis and facial palsy was conducted over the preceding 10years (01/01/2011-08/12/2021).

23/218 (10.6%) patients with neurosarcoidosis developed facial neuropathy. It was the inaugural manifestation of neurosarcoidosis in 17/23 (73.9%) and presented in isolation of other neurologic deficits or extra-facial MRI abnormalities in 12/23 (52.2%). At onset, facial palsy was unilateral in 20/23 (87.0%), and multiple cranial neuropathies were seen in 8/23 (34.8%). The Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS) created its competency framework in 2003 which initially consisted of nine competencies each regarded as equally important for a practising surgeon. The JDocs Framework is aligned to these competencies and provides guidance for junior doctors working towards the Surgical Education and Training program.

A novel assessment instrument was designed around the JDocs framework using 48 behaviourally anchored questions. The study was completed in 2020 across five public hospitals in the ACT and NSW. Participants were invited to complete the self-assessment form online.

Thirty-six of 59 (61%) trainees participated in the study, with 67 of 68 (98.5%) supervisors having completed the assessment form. Trainee self-rating scores were lower than that of supervisor ratings across all competencies except communication. The self-rating scores were negatively correlated with the seniority of a trainee's level in all nine competencies. The years of post-graduate experience was positively correlated with seven of the nine competencies.
