Mesenchymal stem cells derived from bone marrow can diminish Bleomycin-generated fibrosis of the lungs and inflammation in rats better than vitamin D treatment. The globally circulating H5N8 avian influenza viruses bearing the clade 2.3.4.4b hemagglutinin (HA) gene are responsible for the loss of more than 33 million domestic poultry since January 2020. Moreover, the H5N8 viruses have reassorted with other avian influenza viruses and formed H5N1, H5N2, H5N3, H5N4, and H5N5 viruses in Europe, Africa, and North America. In this study, we analyzed 15 H5N6 viruses isolated from poultry and seven H5N6 viruses isolated from humans, and found these viruses formed seven different genotypes by deriving the clade 2.3.4.4b HA gene of H5N8 viruses, the neuraminidase of domestic duck H5N6 viruses, and internal genes of different viruses that previously circulated in domestic ducks and wild birds in China. Two of these genotypes (genotype 3 and genotype 6) have caused human infections in multiple provinces. The H5N6 viruses isolated from poultry have distinct pathotypes in mice; some of them replicate systemically and are highly lethal in mice. Although these viruses exclusively bind to avian-type receptors, it is worrisome that they may obtain key mutations that would increase their affinity for human-type receptors during replication in humans. Our study indicates that the novel H5N6 reassortants bearing the clade 2.3.4.4b HA gene of H5N8 viruses were generated through reassortment in domestic ducks and may have spread across a wide area of China, thereby posing a new challenge to the poultry industry and human health. Our findings emphasize the importance of careful monitoring, evaluation, and control of the H5N6 viruses circulating in nature. The presence of antibiotic-resistant bacteria (ARB) and antibiotic-resistance genes (ARGs) in swine wastewater may present a threat to the environment and public health. Conventional swine wastewater treatment processes generally fail to effectively reduce the content of ARGs. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a highly efficient and low-cost treatment method to solve this environmental problem. In doing so, we evaluated the application of three common coagulants in the treatment of swine wastewater. Using metagenomics, we evaluated the removal efficiency of ARG loads, as well as the effect of coagulation on the structure and diversity of swine wastewater, and on the bacterial community. The results showed that the three coagulants could effectively reduce the physicochemical pollution indexes of swine wastewater (e.g., TP, NTU, COD). After treatment, the loads of a variety of antibiotics in the swine wastewater were significantly reduced, with the exception of NFX and SMD, which were all close to 100%. At the same time, in evaluating the total number of microbial colonies and the total number of fecal Escherichia coli bacteria under the three conditions, Polyaluminum Chloride (PAC) ranked first among the three coagulants with 89.18%, 93.07%, 89.92%, 98.76%, 99.60%, and 98.68%. Metagenomic analysis revealed that the abundance of cfcC, tetX, mphE, msrE, tet36, and other ARGs in the water sample after the LST treatment was significantly lower than that of the original swine wastewater sample. These findings demonstrate the feasibility of using coagulants to treat swine wastewater, which is of great significance for improving water quality and reducing the potential impacts of ARGs.Objective Online racial discrimination (ORD) is rampant; however, little is known about its associations with mental health among undergraduates. This study explored the relations between ORD and mental health among Black undergraduates. It also investigated gender differences in these relations. Participants Two hundred seventy-eight Black, cisgender men and women enrolled in a minority-serving public university in the Northeast U.S. Methods Participants completed measures of ORD, depression, generalized anxiety (GA), and social anxiety (SA) via a Web-based survey. Results Eighty-five percent of participants experienced at least one ORD incident in the last year. Men and women reported comparable exposure. Gender moderated the relations between ORD and depression and SA, respectively; these associations were stronger for women. Infigratinib Conclusions Exposure to ORD is prevalent among Black undergraduates and is associated with adverse mental health outcomes, especially for women. Campus mental health interventions should address online discrimination in the context of students' intersecting identities.
Sensorineural hearing loss in child has a profound impact on their neurodevelopment and on language acquisition. Thus, the diagnosis and early intervention are critical, namely in unilateral or bilateral asymmetric hearing losses, which are diagnosed later than symmetric bilateral hearing losses.
This study aims to examine the progression of asymmetric SNHL in children, and the link between hearing thresholds and the technological level of the hearing aid fitted.
Eighteen children with asymmetric SNHL were submitted to a pure tone audiogram at the age of 5 years (T0) and reassessed at the age of 10 years (T1). Children were divided according to the technological level of the hearing aid fitted basic, medium, and advanced.
A positive correlation was established between the hearing thresholds at T0 and T1, revealing an accelerated progression of hearing thresholds in the better ear after a 5-year period.
Hearing thresholds in the worse ear influence the progression of the SNHL. Moreover, technologically advanced hearing aids led to a slower progression of the hearing thresholds over time.

Although ESAs relieve the symptoms of anemia, they have adverse effects and do not reduce the adverse outcomes associated with anemia. This evaluation is of the phase 3 ASCEND clinical trials of the hypoxia-inducible factor (HIF) prolyl hydroxylase inhibitor daprodustat versus ESAs in subjects with CKD undergoing dialysis or not. Daprodustat was non-inferior to ESAs in increasing hemoglobin, and in the incidence of cardiovascular events and adverse effects. Daprodustat is effective in subjects who are hyporesponsive to ESAs, and this is one circumstance when daprodustat may be preferred to ESAs. However, to become a widely used medicine in subjects with CKD responsive to ESAs, daprodustat needs to be well tolerated, used by a high percentage of subjects over a long time, and be superior to ESAs in improving clinical outcomes. As this may not be the case, there is not a strong basis for recommending daprodustat over ESAs. The other 'dustats' (roxadustat, vadadustat) have also not been shown to be superior to the ESAs, and none have been approved by the FDA to date. Background Evidence regarding short-term effects of electronic nicotine delivery systems (ENDS) and tobacco smoke on lung ventilation and perfusion is limited. Purpose To examine the immediate effect of ENDS exposure and tobacco smoke on lung ventilation and perfusion by functional MRI and lung function tests. Materials and Methods This prospective observational pilot study was conducted from November 2019 to September 2021 (substudy of randomized controlled trial NCT03589989). Included were 44 healthy adult participants (10 control participants, nine former tobacco smokers, 13 ENDS users, and 12 active tobacco smokers; mean age, 41 years ± 12 [SD]; 28 men) who underwent noncontrast-enhanced matrix pencil MRI and lung function tests before and immediately after the exposure to ENDS products or tobacco smoke. Baseline measurements were acquired after 2 hours of substance abstinence. Postexposure measurements were performed immediately after the exposure. MRI showed semiquantitative measured impairment of lung P = .02). Spirometry indexes did not change in any participants. Conclusion MRI showed a decrease of lung perfusion after exposure to tobacco smoke and an increase of lung perfusion after use of electronic nicotine delivery systems. © RSNA, 2022 Online supplemental material is available for this article. Purpose To investigate if very early changes in bone marrow relative fat fraction (rFF) and apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) histogram metrics, occurring after one cycle of induction therapy in participants with newly diagnosed MM, could help predict overall best response status. Materials and Methods This prospective study included participants with MM who were enrolled between August 2014 and December 2017. Histogram metrics were extracted from ADC and rFF maps from MRI examinations performed before treatment and after the first treatment cycle. Participants were categorized into the very good partial response (VGPR) or better group and the less than VGPR group per the International Myeloma Working Group response criteria. ADC and rFF map metrics for predicting treatment response were compared using the Wilcoxon rank test, and the false discovery raive fat fraction histogram metrics, calculated from MRI examination at baseline and after only one cycle of induction therapy, may help to predict very good partial response or better in participants with newly diagnosed multiple myeloma. © RSNA, 2022 Online supplemental material is available for this article.Online supplemental material is available for this article. Background Brain injury and subsequent neurodevelopmental disorders are major determinants for later-life outcomes in neonates with transposition of the great arteries (TGA). Purpose To quantitatively assess cerebral perfusion in neonates with TGA undergoing arterial switch operation (ASO) using transfontanellar contrast-enhanced US (T-CEUS). Materials and Methods In a prospective single-center cross-sectional diagnostic study, neonates with TGA scheduled for ASO were recruited from February 2018 to February 2020. Measurements were performed at five time points before, during, and after surgery (T1-T5), and 11 perfusion parameters were derived per cerebral hemisphere. Neonate clinical characteristics, heart rate, mean arterial pressure, central venous pressure, near-infrared spectroscopy, blood gas analyses, ventilation time, time spent in the pediatric intensive care unit, and time in hospital were correlated with imaging parameters. Analysis of variance or a mixed-effects model were used for groupwise companits au ± 77] × 102 vs [270 au ± 164] × 102, P = .049]), washout ([15 au ± 11] × 103 vs [65 au ± 38] × 103, P = .020]) and both wash-in and washout ([24 au ± 18] × 103 vs [92 au ± 53] × 103, P = .023). Conclusion Low-flow hypothermic conditions resulted in reduced cerebral perfusion, as measured with transfontanellar contrast-enhanced US, which inversely correlated with age at surgery.
