Perianal and perineal pruritus is often associated with Enterobius vermicularis in children. Although this roundworm is common in pediatric practice, most doctors are unaware that it can cause appendicular colic with/or appendicitis, severe urogenital complications, bowel perforation, and peritonitis. We report a case of a young male who presented with signs and symptoms of acute peritonitis. Dur-ing the operation, perforation of the jejunum with a purulent exudate under the transverse colon, a left lateral canal, a Douglas cavity were found as well as single enlarged mesenteric lymph nodes. Histological studies detected Enterobius vermicularis in the lumen of the appendix and jejunum, as well as in the purulent exudate in the intestinal wall and serosa. A mesenteric lymph node, histologically presented with chronic nonspecific lymphadenitis. In conclusion, infection with Enterobius vermicularis should be considered in peri-tonitis, appendicitis, and enlarged mesenteric lymph nodes, especially in young patients.Hemolytic anemia is an uncommon complication after mitral valve repair. We present a case of a 55-year-old man who presented with post-operative hemolytic anemia after mitral valve repair with prosthetic ring. The hemolytic anemia improved after the patient had the prosthetic ring removed and the valve replaced by a prosthetic mitral valve. However, the post-operative course of the redo operation was complicated by acute renal failure and respiratory dysfunction, but the hemolytic anemia was finally abolished and the patient was discharged 20 days post-operatively in good condition. We report a case of a patient with a relapse of neuromyelitis optica. The relapse was initially treated with intravenous corticosteroids. A therapy with intravenous gamma globulin was started as there was no symptomatic improvement. The patient responded well to the treatment with no significant side effects. Worldwide experience with gamma globulin treatment of neuromyelitis optica is limited and randomised control trials are lacking, therefore accumulation of data from case reports is of paramount importance.Lung cancer is the most common neoplasia and the most common cause of cancer mortality. The condition is usually diagnosed at a locally advanced or metastatic stage, which is a bad prognostic factor. Around 40% of all oncology patients with brain metastases have lung cancer.Modern linear accelerators allow clinicians to perform radiosurgery and deliver a high radiation dose to low volume with a high dose gradient. Herein we present a 55-year-old male patient who received radiosurgery four times over three years - two times with Gamma Knife and two times with CyberKnife. Re-irradiation gives the opportunity to treat a local progression of a metastasis, which already has been irradiated. A series of control brain magnetic resonance imaging confirmed a good local control of treated lesions with no necrosis in surrounding healthy tissue or significant oedema. The neurological symptoms were completely controlled and the quality of life of the patient improved considerably. Radiosurgery is a prevalent, non-invasive, painless method of treatment with proven clinical results. It may be reused as long as it has clinical benefits to the patient.A collision tumor represents a coexistence of two adjacent but histologically distinct tumors without histologic admixture in an organ. Serous tumors of the ovary are the most common forms of epithelial tumors, and cavernous hemangiomas are rare in the ovary. Howev-er, a collision between them is an extremely rare pathology. Here the author presents a report of a 74-year-old woman whose ultrasound examines establishes rounded left ovary formation with hypo- and hyperdense sections. read more Paraclinical CA125 within normal range. Serum levels free testosterone 3.79 nmol/l (normal 0.49-2.64 nmol/l for women). The histology showed benign serous cystadenoma and vascular lesions composed of capillary and cavernous vessels amongst luteinized stromal cells. The luteinized cells were positive for inhibin A. The endothelial cells were negative for estrogen and progesterone receptor. A search was conducted in the Medline database via PubMed using the terms 'hemangioma', 'ovary', 'collision', 'serous cystadenoma', no more than 70 articles for ovarian hemangiomas appeared, and no articles for a collision between serous cystadenoma and mixed hemangioma with stromal luteinization in the ovary. From the reference, this is the first reported case of collision between serous cystadenoma and mixed cavernous-capillary hemangioma with stromal luteinization in the ovary. This rare case of collision between tumors in the ovary sheds light on possible tumor pathology in the woman's reproductive system, which must be considered by gynaecologists and pathologists.
Bacterial challenge in periodontal diseases activates both local and systemic immune responses of a macroorganism by increasing multiple proinflammatory factors that can be discovered in gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) and in saliva. We tested the hypothesis that IL-1β concentration in GCF and saliva correlates with periodontal health and diseases.Materials and methods The study included 62 people (mean age 36±14 yrs), divided into three groups - patients with periodontitis (24 people), patients with gingivitis (19 people) and periodontally healthy people (19 people). Saliva and GCF samples were taken from all participants and the levels of IL-1β in all samples were determined by ELISA.
IL-1β concentrations in GCF of healthy individuals were significantly lower than the IL-1β concentration in GCF of patients with gingivitis (p=0.009) and with periodontitis (p.

Removable complete dentures alter the spectrum of speech sounds by changing the elasto-plastic properties of certain areas of the oral cavity walls, and the geometric characteristics of the vocal resonator. These relationships predetermine largely the aims of conventional studies on the effect of prosthetic dentures on speech function.
To investigate the effect removable dentures have on the fundamental frequency of speech during different stages of the adapta-tion period.
We analysed 96×2 digital sound recordings made by 64 patients (32 male and 32 female). Each patient was asked to say 'three, two, one, zero, start' three times before denture placement, after denture placement, and after a two-week adaptation period. The pitch contours of F0 and the numeric values were obtained using the Speech Analyzer - SIL Language Technology software.
Immediately after denture placement, in male patients F0 increased by 12% on the average, and in female patients - by 10%. Two weeks after denture placement, F0 regained its normal value (p.
