In addition, the variables related to these animals and the management of the farm were investigated in terms of the significance of the associations. In total, 383 serum samples from goats, of both sexes and different ages, were collected from 15 farms in four municipalities. The indirect immunofluorescence test was used for antibody detection against Neospora caninum and Toxoplasma gondii. The overall seroprevalence of N. caninum in goats was 26.4% (101/382; IC 95% 22.3-31.1), and 114 out of 383 serum samples were T. gondii-seropositive (29.8%, IC 95% 25.4-34.5). In addition, the seroprevalence of coinfection of T. gondii and N. caninum in goats was 8.6% (33/382; IC 95% 6.2-11.8). The risk factors significantly associated with the seroprevalence of N. caninum were age, type of sheepfold floor, rearing system, feeding, pasture area cultivated, cats having access to the feed deposits, worming, slaughter place of the animals, history of abortion and the presence of dogs and cats. Regarding the seroprevalence of T. gondii infection, age, category, presence of other species and purpose of breeding were the risk factors. This study was carried out in response to repeated reports from local veterinarians in Khartoum State, Sudan, where TBH infections are prevalent in dairy farms. This cross-sectional study was undertaken from October 2017 to April 2018 with the objective of assessing the prevalence and potential risk factors associated with cattle anaplasmosis and babesiosis in the localities of Omdurman, Khartoum, and Khartoum North, Khartoum State. A total of 292 cattle blood samples collected from apparently healthy animals were examined for the presence of A. marginale, Babesia bigemina, and B. bovis using PCR. The overall prevalence of A. marginale and B. bigemina was found to be 40.41% and 3.42%, respectively, while B. bovis was not detected. Mixed infections with A. marginale and B. bigemina were detected in four (1.37%) cattle. The prevalence of the two pathogens was found to be significantly higher in Khartoum and Omdurman than in Khartoum North. However, no significant difference was observed for the prevalence based on sex, age, breed, and mean packed cell volume values. Our findings indicated that A. marginale is a highly prevalent parasite in Khartoum State, which may be a primary constraint to the cattle industry. Inclusion of this pathogen in the diagnostic protocols, and consequent treatment and tick control are necessary. Moreover, the role of B. bigemina infection may exacerbate the situation to some extent in this region.The water buffalo (B. bubalis) is an alternative to cattle ranching in several regions of southern Mexico. Here we report seroprevalence and risk factors associated with the protozoan parasite, Neospora caninum, in water buffaloes in six buffalo production units, in municipalities from central and southern Veracruz, Mexico. Antibodies to N. caninum were assessed in serum samples of 543 buffaloes by a commercial ELISA-kit, and 44.8% (243/543; 95% CI 40.5-49.0) were seropositive. Questionnaires were used to collect epidemiological data and to identify risk factors associated with N. caninum infection. Data analysis indicated that older buffaloes (≥7 year) exhibited the highest seroprevalence for neosporosis 62.3% (38/61; 95% CI 49.7-73.4) (P ≤ 0.05). Buffaloes that were in close contact with cattle had higher seroprevalence 47.6% (168/353; 95% CI 42.3-52.9) (P  less then  0.01) than those that were not in contact 36.8% (70/190; 95% CI 30.0-44.1). Our findings provide important information to implement preventive measures in the buffalo farms.

The aim of this research was the identification of the enteroparasites harbored by the animals of the San Andrés community, to evaluate their role as susceptible hosts and sources of infection for other animals, humans (zoonoses), as well as parasite forms spreaders to the environment in this rural area, located in the province of Chimborazo, Ecuadorian Andean region.

Currently, the three classes of anthelmintics used to treat cyathostomin infections includes benzimidazoles, pyrimidines and macrocyclic lactones. However, due to widespread overuse, cyathostomins have developed varying degrees of resistance to all classes of anthelmintics. Fecal egg count reduction tests (FECRT) are currently used to determine the presence of anthelmintic resistance (AR), while egg reappearance periods (ERP) are used to investigate early macrocyclic lactone resistance. The objective of this study was to investigate the prevalence of cyathostomin pyrantel pamoate and ivermectin resistance, and to determine ERP at Prince Edward Island (PEI), Canada horse farms. In addition, fecal cultures and larval identification were performed to evaluate the prevalence of small and large strongyle egg shedding in PEI. Fecal egg counts (FEC) were performed on 270 horses on 14 horse farms across PEI. Horses with≥ 200 eggs per gram (EPG) met the inclusion criteria and were enrolled in the study (n = 101).
