Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a multifactorial neurological disorder associated with neuropathological and neurobehavioral changes, like cognition and memory loss. This article provides an overview of the current clinical applications and guidance on interpretation of results, as well as future directions. Specifically, we provide an overview of (1) the differences and reference data for HR-pQCT variables by age, sex, and race/ethnicity; (2) fracture risk prediction using HR-pQCT; (3) the ability to monitor response of anti-osteoporosis therapy with HR-pQCT; (4) the use of HR-pQCT in patients with metabolic bone disorders and diseases leading to secondary osteoporosis; and (5) novel applications of HR-pQCT imaging. Finally, we summarize the status of the application of HR-pQCT in clinical practice and discuss future directions. The aim of this work was to compare the available data about sensitivity and specificity of the third molar maturity index (I3M) from five different regional groups' radiographic samples to study possible ethnical difference. For this purpose, a sample of 6157 orthopantomograms (OPGs), coming from 15 countries, was analysed. Data about sensitivity and specificity were pooled using a bivariate modelling approach. The one-way MANOVA analysis was applied to assess the likelihood that sensitivity and specificity of the five regional groups are sampled from the same population. The result of the one-way MANOVA showed that both sensitivity and specificity did not depend from the regional groups. The obtained sensitivity was 84% (95% CI 82% and 85%), and its specificity was 94% (95% CI 93% and 95%). Based on these results, the I3M was a useful statistical tool to identify whether a subject has reached the legal age of 18 years old, regardless of his or her ethnicity.

We described the technical aspects of a retrocolic, retrogastric, laparoscopic gastric bypass procedure with manual gastrojejunostomy and the closure technique for the three mesenteric defects generated by the Roux-en-Y limb reconstruction.

We summarized the data from 587 patients concerning complications directly related to the surgical technique. There were no internal hernias in patients followed, and in only 2 cases, small bowel obstruction related to defect closure occurred.

This retrospective, single-center study aimed to investigate the importance of chemotherapy and to come up with the optimal liver resection margin length for patients with resectable colorectal liver metastasis (CRLM).

Patients who had undergone any form of liver resection for CRLM were reviewed and analyzed. The analyses were broken down into three parts (1) overall effect of chemotherapy, (2) effect of chemotherapy with positive/negative resection margin, and (3) result of discriminative analysis with optimal margin length analysis.

In total, 381 patients were studied. Among them, 279 received chemotherapy whereas 102 did not. Survival was significantly better in patients with chemotherapy (5-year, 43.6% vs. 25.8%) (p < 0.001). Patients who received chemotherapy (n = 93) with negative margins had better survival than patients (n = 8) with positive margins (5-year, 28.1% vs. link3 0%) (p = 0.019). On multivariate analysis, margin involvement was the poor prognostic factor for survival. Various studies have reported satisfactory hemodynamic performance and good long-term outcomes of the Medtronic Mosaic porcine bioprosthesis. However, the hemodynamic and clinical performances of the MB25 in the mitral position remain unknown. This study aimed to evaluate the hemodynamic and clinical performance of the MB25 in mitral valve replacement (MVR). Twenty patients who underwent MVR using the MB25 between February 2013 and April 2018 were studied. We evaluated the hemodynamic performance of the MB25, cardiac chamber size, cardiac function, and systolic pulmonary artery pressure (PAP) using echocardiography during follow-up. The study outcomes were major adverse cardiac events (MACEs) and all-cause mortality. Sixteen patients (80%) had a patient prosthesis mismatch defined as an index effective orifice area of ≤ 1.2 cm2/m2. The left atrial dimension was significantly reduced after surgery (p = 0.0282). The mean pressure gradients (MPG) in the mitral position were 5.5 ± 1.7 mmHg at discharge and 4.2 ± 1.3 mmHg at 1 year postoperatively. The MPG in the mitral position significantly decreased during the follow-up period (p = 0.0489). Systolic PAP significantly improved postoperatively. The 1-, 3-, and 5-year survival rates were 87, 79, and 70%, respectively. No cardiac death occurred. There were no MACEs or reports of structural valve degeneration during the follow-up period. The hemodynamic and clinical performances of the MB25 in the mitral position were satisfactory as the smallest biological mitral valve. The MB25 is a reasonable option for MVR to reduce the surgical difficulty in high-risk patients with an advanced age, a small body size or MAC and when recurrent MVR or complex procedures are performed.Analyzing and evaluating the ecosystem service value of wetlands can provide technical support and theoretical basis for regional socio-economic development, ecological environmental protection, and other planning measures. Based on the factors of hydrology, meteorology, society, economy, resources, environment, and culture, the wetland ecosystem services value of Yellow River Delta (YRD) was evaluated by the method of functional value and equivalent factor, which has certain reference significance for future research. Two methods were used to calculate the ecosystem services value of YRD in 2016, and the results were $3.28 × 109 per year and $4.53 × 109 per year, respectively, and the regulation services accounted for 76.3% and 16.7%, respectively. Through comparative analysis of ecosystem services value from 2001 to 2016, the average proportion of regulation services was 51%. Regulation service is the leading function of wetland ecosystem of YRD. Equivalent factor method is more suitable for the assessment of wetland ecosystem service value of YRD in 2016. In terms of time, ecosystem services value tended to increase, with an average rate of $2.02 × 109 per year. In terms of space, it gradually increased from inland to shallow sea water. On the premise of rational development and utilization, it is predicted that the value of ecosystem services will continue to grow in the future.

Acute intervention with wild blueberry (WBB) has previously revealed positive cognitive and mood effects in typically developing children; however, it is unclear whether effects persist after daily supplementation. In addition, no data have been published exploring the metabolite profiles of children following berry consumption, to our knowledge. A study of this kind could provide insight into a mechanism of action for the cognitive and mood improvements observed previously in children. The aim of this pilot study was to assess cognitive performance and urinary metabolite concentrations in healthy 7-10-year-old children across a 4week daily WBB drink intervention.

This pilot study examined the effects of daily WBB consumption for 4weeks (766mg total polyphenols; 253mg anthocyanins; equivalent to 240g fresh blueberries per day) on cognition and mood in 15 healthy 7-10-year-old children. Polyphenol metabolites were measured in 24h urine before and after the 4week intervention.

Chronic WBB-related benefits were seen on cognitively demanding trials on the modified attention network task, a task measuring executive functioning.
