Observational studies published before August 2019 were obtained through English language literature searches in the PubMed, Embase, and CINAHL databases. Mean differences and odds ratios with 95% confidence intervals were extracted and used for meta-analysis. Heterogeneity was confirmed by the I2-heterogeneity test. Subgroup analysis was conducted to evaluate the influence of study design. The Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development, and Evaluation approach was used to determine the level of evidence. In total, 2544 records were identified through database searches; 914 duplicate records were excluded, 1452 records were removed after screening of titles and abstracts, 151 records were excluded after full-text screening, and 27 articles were included in the final meta-analyses. A total of 240,706,026 patients (19,444,043 with allergic rhinitis) were considered. No signifsignificant association of AR with sleep characteristics.BACKGROUND Conversion to secondary progressive multiple sclerosis (SPMS) is associated with a relatively poor prognosis, and SPMS is responsible for the majority of the social and economic costs associated with MS. Managing the Transition to SPMS (ManTra) is a mixed methods project conducted in Italy and Germany aimed to set up a user-led resource to empower and improve the quality of life of newly diagnosed SPMS patients. AIMS To assess the experiences and the needs of Italian people who recently converted to SPMS, patient significant others (SOs), neurologists and other health professionals (HPs). METHODS We conducted 15 personal semistructured interviews (PSIs) with SPMS patients who transitioned up to five years, and three focus group meetings (FGMs), one of SPMS SOs, one of neurologists, and one of other HPs. Participants were purposely selected from the three geographic areas of Italy, and varied in terms of gender, education and (for patients) disease severity. PSIs and FGMs were audiorecorded, transcribed and analyzed by two researchers using the framework analysis. RESULTS One hundred sub-categories were identified, grouped into 13 categories and four themes 'awareness of the transition', 'communication of the transition', 'dealing with symptoms worsening', and 'needs'. The major unmet needs were collected in four dimensions 'organization and management; 'empowerment training'; 'information'; and 'policies'. CONCLUSIONS Two are the main findings first, the widespread lack of awareness around the transition; second, the need to improve the quality of the care pathway in the Italian context. It was particularly stressed the need for a holistic and multidisciplinary approach (with patients and SOs as members of the team), the development of an ad hoc plan of follow up visits with easy access to MS specialists' consultation/treatment; specialized training for each stakeholders; more information on SPMS, daily management and changes at policy level.Although Plasmodium vivax parasites are the predominant cause of malaria outside of sub-Saharan Africa, they not always prioritised by elimination programmes. P. vivax is resilient and poses challenges through its ability to re-emerge from dormancy in the human liver. With observed growing drug-resistance and the increasing reports of life-threatening infections, new tools to inform elimination efforts are needed. In order to halt transmission, we need to better understand the dynamics of transmission, the movement of parasites, and the reservoirs of infection in order to design targeted interventions. The use of molecular genetics and epidemiology for tracking and studying malaria parasite populations has been applied successfully in P. falciparum species and here we sought to develop a molecular genetic tool for P. vivax. By assembling the largest set of P. vivax whole genome sequences (n = 433) spanning 17 countries, and applying a machine learning approach, we created a 71 SNP barcode with high predictive ability to identify geographic origin (91.4%). Further, due to the inclusion of markers for within population variability, the barcode may also distinguish local transmission networks. By using P. vivax data from a low-transmission setting in Malaysia, we demonstrate the potential ability to infer outbreak events. By characterising the barcoding SNP genotypes in P. vivax DNA sourced from UK travellers (n = 132) to ten malaria endemic countries predominantly not used in the barcode construction, we correctly predicted the geographic region of infection origin. Overall, the 71 SNP barcode outperforms previously published genotyping methods and when rolled-out within new portable platforms, is likely to be an invaluable tool for informing targeted interventions towards elimination of this resilient human malaria.The Sinacanthida ordo nov. and Mongolepidida are spine- and scale-based taxa whose remains encompass some of the earliest reported fossils of chondrichthyan fish. Investigation of fragmentary material from the Early Silurian Tataertag and Ymogantau Formations of the Tarim Basin (Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, China) has revealed a diverse mongolepidid and sinacanthid fauna dominated by mongolepids and sinacanthids in association with abundant dermoskeletal elements of the endemic 'armoured' agnathans known as galeaspids. Micro-computed tomography, scanning electron microscopy and histological sections were used to identify seven mongolepid genera (including Tielikewatielepis sinensis gen. et sp. nov., Xiaohaizilepis liui gen. et sp. PARP inhibitor nov. and Taklamakanolepis asiaticus gen. et sp. nov.) together with a new chondrichthyan (Yuanolepis bachunensis gen. et sp. nov.) with scale crowns consisting of a mongolepid-type atubular dentine (lamellin).
