The consumption of EPA (Eicosapentaenoic acid), and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid), from fish oil, in the long run, has been observed to have a positive impact on patients with coronary heart disease. Fish oil products, with so much EPA and DHA content are available, and have very variable prices. Therefore, as a therapy to be used for long-term treatment, the cost factor is to be considered.

This study analyzed the content of EPA and DHA, using GC-MS. The sample to be analyzed was the fish oil that has the lowest price (Product A1), and that of the highest (Product A2). Furthermore, the macroscopic analysis was performed, by observing the physical form including organoleptic and qualitative tests, by reading the fragments identified by EPA and DHA.

Clinical trials were conducted on patients (about 46 people), with risk factors and dyslipidemia. Product A1 showed EPA at tR= 15.574 min (relative%= 88.49%, similarity= 95%), and DHA at tR= 21.714 min (relative%= 88.92%, similarity= 93%). Product A2 showed EPA at tR= 28.719 min (relative%= 22.58%, similarity= 89%), and DHA at tR= 32.327 min (relative%= 22.87%, similarity= 90%), which meant that both had EPA and DHA contents, in accordance with their labels. Both products were confirmed to reduce total cholesterol in 4weeks (p=0.000, p= 0.000), with no significant difference in their effectiveness (p=0.652).

The results showed that both the A1 and A2 products, had the EPA and DHA contents in accordance with their respective labels. selleck chemicals llc However, with the A2 product having a percentage relatively higher than that of the A1 brand, both are equally very effective.

Non-adherence to the recommended therapy causes patients with heart failure to experience recurrence of the disease. Reminder book on therapy adherence is very useful, because it assists in monitoring adherence to therapy carried out by patients while at home. Therefore, this study aims to determine the effect of the existence of a reminder book on adherence to therapy among patients with heart failure in a private hospital in Malang.

A pre-experiment design with one-group pre and posttest was used. The respondents were 18 patients that received counseling on the management of heart failure therapy while at home and were given a reminder book. Furthermore, the modified MMAS-8 scale was the study instrument used to measure adherence.

The results showed that most respondents were above the age of 65 with a treatment duration of 1 to 5 years. It was discovered that most of the respondents had never received information about heart failure therapy. Data analysis which was carried out using the Wilcoxon test with a p-value of 0.001, showed that there was a significant difference between respondents' compliance before and after being given a reminder book.

From this study, it was concluded that providing a reminder book has an effect on therapeutic adherence in patients with heart failure. Researchers recommend that hospitals should make use of this reminder as a tool to control or supervise outpatient therapy.

Communication is a bridge of transaction between the health team, patients, and families that applies in the service units of hospitals, which are closely related to the patient safety culture. TeamSTEPPS is a team strategies and tools to enhance performance and patient safety. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the effect of modified TeamSTEPPS training on the team communication of nurses in hospitals.

This study used a quasi-experimental pre-posttest control group design and a purposive sampling technique.

About 28 nurses participated and were distributed into control and intervention groups. The results of the Wilcoxon test on communication perception obtained a p-value greater than α (0.980>0.050), while on communication attitudes the p-value was greater than α (0.517>0.050). Furthermore, the spearman rho test showed that there was no difference between the team perception (p=0.624; α=0.050) and communication attitudes (p = 0.320; α = 0.050). This means that the implementation of this training towards nurses' Team communication in the hospital did not have a significant effect.

Hospitals need to carry out the implementation of TeamSTEPPS in a sustainable manner and develop good teamwork and effective team communication.

Severe hypoglycemia occurs in 6% of type 2 DM patients with a 6 to 7% mortality rate. Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, there has been a higher rate of fatality among diabetes patients, at least 22% of COVID-19 deaths in Wuhan, China. Furthermore, the condition impairs physiological defense against recurrent hypoglycemia in the future. Accordingly, the innovation in this study aims to prevent severe hypoglycemia among type 2 patients through early risk screening, the use of preventative protocols, and patient and family empowerment. This intervention bundle is called Hypoglycemia-Nursing Early Warning Score System (Hy-NEWSS).

The innovation was implemented in inpatient and outpatient settings, within two weeks with the following sequence i) internal training, ii) Hy-NEWSS implementation, iii) outcomes evaluation.

Of the twenty-eight patients involved in the study, 3 patients (19%) had a high risk of hypoglycemia, while the remaining had a low risk for the condition. However, at the end of the study there was no event of severe hypoglycemia (0%), and only 1 event (6.33%) of mild hypoglycemia. The results also showed that the accuracy of nurses in implementing the protocols was 93% and that during the evaluation, 95.62% of the responses of the nurses from the inpatient and outpatient settings were positive. Finally, the scores of the sensitivity and specificity evaluation were 99% and 88%, respectively.

It may be concluded from this initial study that Hy-NEWSS is effective in preventing severe hypoglycemia, accurate in identifying patient risk level for the condition, and has high applicability to be implemented in hospital settings.

the activation of NLRP3 inflammasome machinery has a central role in obesity-induced inflammation. Genetic studies well support the involvement of functional variants of NLRP3 and its negative regulator, CARD8, in the pathogenesis of complex diseases with an inflammatory background. We have investigated the influence of NLRP3 (rs4612666; rs10754558) and CARD8 (rs204321) genetic variants in both the inflammatory status of visceral adipose tissue (VAT) from patients with severe obesity and in the systemic oxidative stress before and after sleevegastrectomy (SLG).

23 consecutive severe obese patients candidate to SLG were enrolled in the study. Visceral adipose tissue (VAT) biopsies, obtained during SLG, were used to evaluate the expression of NLRP3, IL-1β, IL-6, and MCP-1 by real-time RT-PCR. DNA was extracted from peripheral blood lymphocytes and genotyped by RFLP analysis. Before and 3 months after SLG, all patients underwent the assessment of oxidative stress, biochemical parameters, and body-compositione impact of the NLRP3 rs4612666 C variant on severe obesity.

12,13-dihydroxy-9Z-octadecenoic acid (12,13-diHOME) was one of the newly found lipokines. The goal of this study was to investigate whether the 12,13-diHOME was associated with related metabolic markers of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) in a Chinese population with type 2 diabetes (T2DM) and obesity.

This cross-sectional study enrolled 202 subjects with T2DM. Anthropometric parameters, 12,13-diHOME, serum lipids levels, fasting blood-glucose (FBG), serum glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c), fasting insulin (FINS), homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR), liver and kidney function parameters were collected. NAFLD was diagnosed based on abdominal ultrasonography examination results. A computer-aided ultrasound quantitative method was applied to evaluate the liver fat content (LFC).

The number of the patients with fatty liver was 139 (68.81%) and those with non-fatty liver was 63 (31.19%). Subjects with NAFLD had a higher body mass index (BMI), diastolic blood pressure, serum alaearch should be carried on about this newly found lipokine.

Little evidence is available on how both forms of ghrelin change during the aging process. Most of the earlier studies measured only total ghrelin levels and mainly in the fasting state. This study aimed to assess periprandial changes of acylated and desacylated ghrelin (AG, DAG) in volunteers aged ≥65 and <65 years and to establish an association between both forms of ghrelin and nutritional status in older volunteers.

Venous blood for serum AG and DAG assays were collected in sixty volunteers after an overnight fast and two hours after the consumption of a standard 300 kcal-mixed meal. In those aged 65 years or more nutritional status was assessed.

Levels of DAG and AG were lower in older compared to younger volunteers in the fasting state as well as postprandially. DAG levels after a meal decreased in older, but not in younger subjects. However, significantly higher levels of postprandial AG were found in subjects with a risk of malnutrition and those with reduced appetite in comparison to wellnourished ones. Interestingly, elderly subjects with the lowest insulin and BMI had the lowest fasting AG levels and subjects with too high BMI and hyperinsulinemia presented also the highest fasting AG levels.

In older subjects, levels of both forms of ghrelin were lower and differential postprandial AG and DAG responses were observed when compared to younger subjects.

Minimally invasive right colectomy is increasingly performed as standard treatment for diseases of right colon. Complete mesocolic excision has been introduced for cancer treatment to improve oncological results. Both standard and complete mesocolic excision techniques are associated with intraoperative complications. The purpose of this study was to analyse incidence and management of intraoperative complications in patients who underwent laparoscopic right colectomy with complete mesocolic excision in a single institution.

This is a retrospective study conducted in a single Italian centre from April 2017 to October 2020. Data of non-metastatic cancer patients who underwent laparoscopic right colectomy were collected to analyse onset of intraoperative complications, their management and rate of conversion to open surgery.

A total of 92 patients were included in this study. The 1.09% of patients were converted to open surgery due to adhesions and bowel occlusion. The 5.43% of patients had intraoperative complications bleeding from Henle's trunk, pre-pancreatic plane and ileocolic artery stump account for 3.
