Mg, Mn, Li, Cu and Ag are recommended as the major alloying elements, owing to their prominent beneficial effects on at least one of the above properties. In future, synergistic effects of these elements should be more thoroughly investigated. For other nutritional elements, such as Fe and Ca, refining second phase is a matter of vital concern. © 2020 Production and hosting by Elsevier B.V. on behalf of KeAi Communications Co., Ltd.Bacterial infection and related diseases are threatening the health of human beings. Photocatalytic disinfection as a simple and low-cost disinfection strategy is attracting more and more attention. In this work, TiO2 nanoparticles (NPs) were modified by co-doping of Ce and Er using the sol-gel method, which endowed TiO2 NPs with enhanced visible light photocatalytic performance but not pure ultraviolet photocatalytic properties compared the untreated TiO2. Our results disclosed that as the doping content of Er increased, the photocatalytic activity of modified TiO2 NPs initially increased and subsequently decreased. The same trend occurred for Ce doping. When the doping dose of Er and Ce is 0.5 mol% and 0.2 mol%, the 0.5Ce0.2Ti-O calcined at 800 °C presented the best antibacterial properties, with the antibacterial efficiency of 91.23% and 92.8% for Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli, respectively. The existence of Er ions is thought to successfully turn the near-infrared radiation into visible region, which is easier to be absorbed by TiO2 NPs. Meanwhile, the addition of Ce ions can effectively extend spectral response range and inhibit the recombination of electrons and holes, enhancing the photocatalytic disinfection activity of co-doped TiO2. © 2020 Production and hosting by Elsevier B.V. on behalf of KeAi Communications Co., Ltd.Purpose To describe the clinical presentation and novel anatomical features of a patient with chronic central serous chorioretinopathy (CSCR) complicated by retinal neovascularization (RNV). Observations A 48 year-old patient with a long-standing history of bilateral CSCR presented to our clinic complaining about a sudden onset of tiny floaters. Multimodal imaging including fundus autofluorescence (FAF), fundus fluorescein (FA) and ICG angiography (ICG) and spectral domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) confirmed the diagnosis of CSCR and revealed a pre-retinal neovascularization and concurring vitreous hemorrhage. Swept source OCT angiography (OCTA) and 3D reconstruction virtual reality determined the retinal origin of the neovascularization. Follow-up examination revealed clearing of the vitreous hemorrhage and spontaneous obliteration of the RNV without any treatment three months following the initial presentation. Conclusion and importance To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of a RNV associated with CSCR which was determined by three-dimensional (3D) OCTA reconstruction. © 2020 The Authors.Purpose To describe a patient with Streptococcus constellatus-associated Lemierre syndrome complicated by eventual cavernous sinus thrombosis (CST) that manifested as an isolated abducens nerve palsy. Observations A patient with a history of heavy alcohol use presented with Lemierre syndrome caused by an odontogenic infection due to Streptococcus constellatus. Despite initiation of intravenous antibiotics and eventual eradication of her bacteremia, she developed an isolated abducens nerve palsy on hospital day 7 due to associated CST. Cyclopamine research buy Conclusions and Importance CST is a rare complication of odontogenic infection and Lemierre syndrome. This case demonstrates the potential for primary odontogenic infections to progress to life- and sight-threatening diseases. This case also illustrates the importance of considering uncommon pathogens as the etiology of CST based on the suspected source of primary infection. © 2020 The Authors. Background Aging is a major non-modifiable risk factor for hypertension. Changes in aging are similar to those seen in hypertension in the vasculature. Also, aging increases the vascular dysfunction that occurs in hypertension. L-arginase action reduces substrate (L-arginine) availability for the formation of nitric oxide (NO). This reduces the level of NO and leads to reduced vasodilation and ultimately, vascular dysfunction. This study examines the hypothesis that age-dependent vascular dysfunction in SHRs is mediated by arginase. Methods Young (12-14 weeks) and old (11-12 months) male Wistar and spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR) were used. Mean arterial pressure (MAP) was measured in the rats. They were then euthanized and mesenteric resistance arteries (MRAs) and thoracic aortae were excised and placed in ice-cold physiological salt solution (PSS). Arterial segments were either snap-frozen in liquid nitrogen and stored for immunoblotting studies or cut into 2mm rings for reactivity studies. Cumulativeg pathway.Yellow-pigmented, circular bacteria (strain SNU WT7) were isolated from the liver of moribund eastern catfish (Silurus asotus). Our study focused on the taxonomic description of SNU WT7 using phylogenetic, phenotypic, and chemotaxonomic analyses. The 16S rRNA gene sequence of the SNU WT7 strain was highly similar to that of Chryseobacterium haifense H38T (97.29% similarity), followed by Chryseobacterium hominis P2K6T (97.22% similarity), while other species exhibited similarity values of less than 97.0%. The genome of strain SNU WT7 displayed average nucleotide identity and genome-to-genome distance values of 72.35% and 22.0%, respectively, which clearly indicated that the novel species was distant from the other Chryseobacterium species, with its closest relative being C. haifense H38T. Furthermore, the phenotypic characteristics, including acid production from glucose, D-fructose, lactose, and maltose, of strain SNU WT 7 differed from those of C. haifense H38T. The major polar lipid of the strain was phosphatidylethanolamine, and several unidentified aminolipids and lipids were also present. Similar to other Chryseobacterium species, the quinone system was composed mainly of MK-6. The genome of SNU WT7 is 2,690,367 bp with a G + C content of 43.6%. Taken together, our data indicate that the isolate SNU WT7 represents a novel species of the genus Chryseobacterium. Thus, we present the name Chryseobacterium siluri sp. nov. for the novel type strain SNU WT7T (KCTC 72626, JCM 33707). © 2020 The Author(s).Indonesia is currently in the process of mandating the establishment of Remuneration Committees (RCs) for all listed companies. However, little is known about the effectiveness of RCs in Indonesia. This study sheds light on this issue, by examining the relationships between RCs, executive and board of director remuneration, and firm performance in Indonesia. This study uses 847 observations of firms listed on the Indonesian Stock Exchange (IDX) during 2014-2017. Our results indicate that RCs are positively related to executives remuneration and firm performance. In particular, higher remuneration is only linked to higher performance in firms that have established a remuneration committee. This study documents the interactions between RCs, remuneration levels of senior company officers and firm performance in an emerging market setting with voluntary formation of RCs. This study has implications for regulators and company management in Indonesia (and other emerging markets), as the existence of remuneration committees is found to be associated with more effective remuneration packages and higher firm performance. © 2020 Published by Elsevier Ltd.To remove high oxygen content is important to make high quality oil and valuable products. In this paper, the research on homogeneous catalytic deoxygenation reactions, including decarboxylation (DCX)/decarbonylation (DCN), hydrodeoxygenation (HDO) is reviewed. Based on DCX/DCN, the classic radical reactions such as the Barton decarboxylation, Henkel, Hunsdiecker and Kochi reactions were introduced, the practice and overall performance are also discussed. In addition, the different reaction pathways and mechanisms were demonstrated and the key chemical processes have been selected from the literature as examples to elaborate the critical emphasis on the mechanistic understanding. The applications of the catalytic deoxygenation reactions for high-value products have also been highlighted. Overall, this review provides insight discussions on the DO issues and progresses in homogeneous catalytic aspects. © 2020 Published by Elsevier Ltd.Cortical deafness is a rare condition and is usually caused by bilateral cerebral lesions. Several cases of sudden cortical deafness caused by ischemic stroke or hypertensive intracerebral hematoma have been reported, however, no cases of traumatic cortical deafness were identified in our literature search. We experienced a case of delayed traumatic intracerebral hematoma (DTICH) presenting as cortical deafness. In our patient, warfarin intake seemed to be a risk factor for DTICH. Head injury may adversely affect the coagulability and thrombolysis. A high risk of DTICH after traumatic head injury should be kept in mind when encountering patients taking anticoagulants. © 2020 The Author(s).Lead-bismuth eutectic (LBE) is a candidate liquid metal coolant for a fast reactor, especially accelerator driven system (ADS). Freeze sealed valve is a candidate design to be possible to add passive safety to the reactor. On the other hand, since LBE is known that it causes expansion after its solidification, quantitative evaluation of the stress to the pipe produced by the LBE expansion should be considered. Many researchers produced related data for the expansion, however, evaluations of the strain by LBE expansion was barely reported. Therefore, the strain measurement using a stainless steel cup and the stress evaluation was performed together with visual observation using an optical microscopy. The results indicated keeping above room temperature (RT) was a significantly effective way to reduce the strain to the pipe. © 2020 The Authors. The mechanism of graphite formation on gray cast iron metal during carburisation process using organic nano-carbon (ONC) was investigated at 900 °C for a holding time of three (3) hours. TEM and XRD were employed to characterize the pulverised nano-carbon to determine their phases and bonding potentials. Also, SEM/EDS, XRD and Vickers' hardness tester were employed to determine the microstructure, phase compositions as well as hardness and wear properties of the carburised material. The microstructural result showed that, there was uniform carbon diffusion into the substrate material which led to layers of graphite formation and subsequent surface modifications for each of the selected nano-carbon used. Also, the XRD results revealed variations in the peak patterns for each of the substrate carburised with different organic carbon with substrates showing graphite and iron phases as observed in that carburised in pulverised palm kernel shell having broad peaks at 35.50o, 44.4o, 65.12o and 82.395o. This is traceable to amorphous properties and crystalline behaviour of the organic carbon. Further to this, the micro-hardness measurement showed that substrate carburised using pulverised palm kernel shell performed better compared to other substrates in other media with a micro hardness value of 355.8 (HV) against as-received which is 116.9 (HV). Thus, this is a novel and possible method of improving the properties of grey cast iron to meet the increasing demand in gear applications. © 2020 The Author(s).
