The notion of voluntariness, notably the inability to refrain from using an addictive substance, is central to addiction. This review examines different constructs measuring voluntariness in the context of drug addiction. We found 117 articles featuring 123 distinct scales for 11 of the 16 constructs initially searched. Self-efficacy was by far the construct with most scales. selleck chemicals Most scales were not specifically developed with samples of people with addictions. From a methodological standpoint, current literature jeopardizes the validity of generalizations about how voluntariness functions and is measured in people with and without a drug addiction. From the standpoint of social psychology, the study of voluntariness remains anchored in an individualistic orientation to the study of cognition and behavior, thus calling for greater crosstalk between psychology subspecialties.A low-field (80 mT), portable MRI scanner has been developed that may address barriers to MRI for people with multiple sclerosis (MS). As a proof of concept study, we imaged two participants with central nervous system demyelinating disease by both a standard 1.5 Tesla MRI and the portable MRI scanner. These images demonstrate the ability to identify a solitary demyelinating lesion in early stage disease and cortical atrophy and chronic white matter changes in late stage disease. In spite of device limitations, including border distortion and lower image quality, the portable device has important implications for addressing barriers to care in people with MS.

Major depression disorder (MDD) and severe depression symptoms are highly prevalent in multiple sclerosis (MS). Depression can worsen symptoms of MS and is associated with significantly reduced quality of life and increased risk of suicide. Currently, there is no gold-standard, single treatment available for depression in MS. Pharmacotherapy, cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), and exercise training individually are moderately, yet incompletely, efficacious for managing depression in the general population and MS.

This review provides an overview of evidence from meta-analyses and systematic reviews for current treatments of depression in persons with MS. This review further develops the rationale for using a combinatory treatment approach in persons with MS.

We performed a narrative review of meta-analyses and systematic reviews regarding the current state of evidence for the three most common treatments of depression in persons with MS (i.e., antidepressant medication, cognitive-behavior therapy, and excombinatory approaches for MDD in MS.

Death anxiety (DA) in chronic diseases has occupied the human mind more than other diseases. Therefore, multiple sclerosis (MS) patients are more prone to DA due to recurrence periods.

Among the psychological interventions the two approaches of logotherapy (LT) and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), They pay more attention and concentration on the subject of suffering. Therefore, the present study aimed to compare the effectiveness of these two approaches on DA in MS patients.

The statistical population included 48 women who were diagnosed as MS patients and had medical records at Iran MS Society in Tehran, in terms of entry and exit criteria, which were selected by convenience sampling. Then they were randomly divided into two experimental groups and one control group. This plan has an independent variable at three levels including LT, ACT and the control group. The dependent variables are the subjects' scores on the Death Attitude Profile-Revised (DAP-R) (Wong., Reker & Gesser, 1994). Therapin chronic diseases.

Considering the effectiveness of LT and ACT in reducing DA in MS patients, the results of this study can be used in order to achieve therapeutic goals and reduce psychological problems in chronic diseases.Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD) and Bluetongue (BT) are the main ruminants viral vector-borne diseases. LSD is endemic in Africa and has recently emerged in Europe and central Asia as a major threat to cattle industry. BT caused great economic damage in Europe during the last decade with a continuous spread to other countries. To control these diseases, vaccination is the only economically viable tool. For LSD, only live-attenuated vaccines (LAVs) are commercially available, whilst for BT both LAVs and inactivated vaccines are available with a limited number of serotypes. In this study, we developed an inactivated, oil adjuvanted bivalent vaccine against both diseases based on LSDV Neethling strain and BTV4. The vaccine was tested for safety and immunogenicity on cattle during a one-year period. Post-vaccination monitoring was carried out by VNT and ELISA. The vaccine was completely safe and elicited high neutralizing antibodies starting from the first week following the second injection up to one year. Furthermore, a significant correlation (R = 0.9040) was observed when comparing VNT and competitive ELISA in BTV4 serological response. Following BTV4 challenge, none of vaccinated and unvaccinated cattle were registered clinical signs, however vaccinated cattle showed full protection from viraemia. In summary, this study highlights the effectiveness of this combined vaccine as a promising solution for both LSD and BT control. It also puts an emphasis on the need for the development of other multivalent inactivated vaccines, which could be greatly beneficial for improving vaccination coverage in endemic countries and prophylaxis of vector-borne diseases.Porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome (PRRS) causes substantial economic losses to the global pig industry. Members of the tripartite motif (TRIM) family are the important effectors of the innate immune response against viral infections. We have previously characterized the entire porcine TRIM (pTRIM) family, and predicted pTRIM5, 14, 21, 25 and 38 as host restriction factors against PRRSV infection. However, little is known about whether and how pTRIMs restrict the infection of PRRSV. In this study, we firstly performed the amino acid alignments of the RING domain of pTRIM5, 21, 25 and 38, and found that pTRIM proteins contained the characteristic consensus C3HC4 type zinc-binding motif which is important for the ubiquitination function. Then we detected the mRNA changes of pTRIMs in porcine alveolar macrophages (PAMs) by transcriptome sequencing after PRRSV infection in piglets. Transcriptional profiles showed that the expression of pTRIM5, 21 and 26 was significantly (P less then 0.05) up-regulated, consistent with their expression in vitro.
