Realistic synthetic data can be useful for data augmentation when training deep learning models to improve seismological detection and classification performance. In recent years, various deep learning techniques have been successfully applied in modern seismology. Due to the performance of deep learning depends on a sufficient volume of data, the data augmentation technique as a data-space solution is widely utilized. In this paper, we propose a Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) based model that uses conditional knowledge to generate high-quality seismic waveforms. Unlike the existing method of generating samples directly from noise, the proposed method generates synthetic samples based on the statistical characteristics of real seismic waveforms in embedding space. Moreover, a content loss is added to relate high-level features extracted by a pre-trained model to the objective function to enhance the quality of the synthetic data. The classification accuracy is increased from 96.84% to 97.92% after mixing a certain amount of synthetic seismic waveforms, and results of the quality of seismic characteristics derived from the representative experiment show that the proposed model provides an effective structure for generating high-quality synthetic seismic waveforms. Thus, the proposed model is experimentally validated as a promising approach to realistic high-quality seismic waveform data augmentation.West Nile virus (WNV) and Usutu virus (USUV) are zoonotic arboviruses. These flaviviruses are mainly maintained in the environment through an enzootic cycle involving mosquitoes and birds. Horses and humans are incidental, dead-end hosts, but can develop severe neurological disorders. Nevertheless, there is little data regarding the involvement of other mammals in the epidemiology of these arboviruses. In this study, we performed a serosurvey to assess exposure to these viruses in captive birds and mammals in a zoo situated in the south of France, an area described for the circulation of these two viruses. A total of 411 samples comprising of 70 species were collected over 16 years from 2003 to 2019. The samples were first tested by a competitive enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. The positive sera were then tested using virus-specific microneutralization tests against USUV and WNV. USUV seroprevalence in birds was 10 times higher than that of WNV (14.59% versus 1.46%, respectively). Among birds, greater rhea (Rhea Americana) and common peafowl (Pavo cristatus) exhibited the highest USUV seroprevalence. Infections occurred mainly between 2016-2018 corresponding to a period of high circulation of these viruses in Europe. In mammalian species, antibodies against WNV were detected in one dama gazelle (Nanger dama) whereas serological evidence of USUV infection was observed in several Canidae, especially in African wild dogs (Lycaon pictus). Our study helps to better understand the exposure of captive species to WNV and USUV and to identify potential host species to include in surveillance programs in zoos.Existing caching mechanisms considers content objects individually without considering the semantic correlation among content objects. We argue that this approach can be inefficient in Internet of Things due to the highly redundant nature of IoT device deployments and the data accuracy tolerance of IoT applications. In many IoT applications, an approximate answer is acceptable. Therefore, a cache of an information object having a high semantic correlation with the requested information object can be used instead of a cache of the exact requested information object. In this case, caching both of the information objects can be inefficient and redundant. This paper proposes a caching retrieval scheme which considers the semantic information correlation of information objects of nodes for cache retrieval. We illustrate the benefits of considering the semantic information correlation in caching by studying IoT data caching at the edge. Our experiments and analysis show that semantic correlated caching can significantly improve the efficiency, cache hit, and reduce the resource consumption of IoT devices. This study aims to analyze the psychophysiological stress response of a helicopter crew using portable biosensors, and to analyze the psychophysiological stress response differences of experienced and non-experienced crew members. We analyzed 27 participants (33.89 ± 5.93 years) divided into two different flight maneuvers a crane rescue maneuver 15 participants (three control and 12 military) and a low-altitude maneuver 12 participants (five control and seven military). Anxiety, rating of perceived exertion, subjective perception of stress, heart rate, blood oxygen saturation, skin temperature, blood lactate, cortical arousal, autonomic modulation, leg and hand strength, leg flexibility, spirometry, urine, and short-term memory were analyzed before and after both helicopter flight maneuvers. The maneuvers produced a significant increase in stress and effort perception, state of anxiety, and sympathetic modulation, as well as a significant decrease in heart rate, blood oxygen saturation, leg and inspiratory muscle strength, and urine proteins. The use of biosensors showed how a crane rescue and low-altitude helicopter maneuvers produced an anticipatory anxiety response, showing an increased sympathetic autonomic modulation prior to the maneuvers, which was maintained during the maneuvers in both experienced and non-experienced participants. Fasiglifam manufacturer The crane rescue maneuver produced a higher maximal heart rate and decreased pulmonary capacity and strength than the low-altitude maneuver. The psychophysiological stress response was higher in the experienced than in non-experienced participants, but both presented an anticipatory stress response before the maneuver.Dexmedetomidine (DEX), a highly selective agonist of α2-adrenergic receptors, has been tailored for sedation without risk of respiratory depression. Our hypothesis is that DEX produces any direct perturbations on ionic currents (e.g., hyperpolarization-activated cation current, Ih). In this study, addition of DEX to pituitary GH3 cells caused a time- and concentration-dependent reduction in the amplitude of Ih with an IC50 value of 1.21 μM and a KD value of 1.97 μM. A hyperpolarizing shift in the activation curve of Ih by 10 mV was observed in the presence of DEX. The voltage-dependent hysteresis of Ih elicited by long-lasting triangular ramp pulse was also dose-dependently reduced during its presence. In continued presence of DEX (1 μM), further addition of OXAL (10 μM) or replacement with high K+ could reverse DEX-mediated inhibition of Ih, while subsequent addition of yohimbine (10 μM) did not attenuate the inhibitory effect on Ih amplitude. The addition of 3 μM DEX mildly suppressed the amplitude of erg-mediated K+ current. Under current-clamp potential recordings, the exposure to DEX could diminish the firing frequency of spontaneous action potentials. In pheochromocytoma PC12 cells, DEX was effective at suppressing Ih together with a slowing in activation time course of the current. Taken together, findings from this study strongly suggest that during cell exposure to DEX used at clinically relevant concentrations, the DEX-mediated block of Ih appears to be direct and would particularly be one of the ionic mechanisms underlying reduced membrane excitability in the in vivo endocrine or neuroendocrine cells.Muscarinic acetylcholine receptors (mAChRs) are a pivotal constituent of the central and peripheral nervous system. Yet, therapeutic and diagnostic applications thereof are hampered by the lack of subtype selective ligands. Within this work, we synthesized and chemically characterized three different stereoisomers of hydrobenzoin esters of arecaidine by NMR, HR-MS, chiral chromatography, and HPLC-logP. All compounds are structurally eligible for carbon-11 labeling and show appropriate stability in Dulbecco's phosphate-buffered saline (DPBS) and F12 cell culture medium. A competitive radioligand binding assay on Chinese hamster ovary cell membranes comprising the human mAChR subtypes M1-M5 showed the highest orthosteric binding affinity for subtype M1 and a strong influence of stereochemistry on binding affinity, which corresponds to in silico molecular docking experiments. Ki values toward M1 were determined as 99 ± 19 nM, 800 ± 200 nM, and 380 ± 90 nM for the (R,R)-, (S,S)-, and racemic (R,S)-stereoisomer, respectively, highlighting the importance of stereochemical variations in mAChR ligand development. All three stereoisomers were shown to act as antagonists toward mAChR M1 using a Fluo-4 calcium efflux assay. With respect to future positron emission tomography (PET) tracer development, the (R,R)-isomer appears especially promising as a lead structure due to its highest subtype selectivity and lowest Ki value.Reduced inhibitory glycinergic neurotransmission is implicated in a number of neurological conditions such as neuropathic pain, schizophrenia, epilepsy and hyperekplexia. Restoring glycinergic signalling may be an effective method of treating these pathologies. Glycine transporters (GlyTs) control synaptic and extra-synaptic glycine concentrations and slowing the reuptake of glycine using specific GlyT inhibitors will increase glycine extracellular concentrations and increase glycine receptor (GlyR) activation. Glycinergic neurotransmission can also be improved through positive allosteric modulation (PAM) of GlyRs. Despite efforts to manipulate this synapse, no therapeutics currently target it. We propose that dual action modulators of both GlyTs and GlyRs may show greater therapeutic potential than those targeting individual proteins. To show this, we have characterized a co-expression system in Xenopus laevis oocytes consisting of GlyT1 or GlyT2 co-expressed with GlyRα1. We use two electrode voltage clamp recording techniques to measure the impact of GlyTs on GlyRs and the effects of modulators of these proteins. We show that increases in GlyT density in close proximity to GlyRs diminish receptor currents. Reductions in GlyR mediated currents are not observed when non-transportable GlyR agonists are applied or when Na+ is not available. GlyTs reduce glycine concentrations across different concentration ranges, corresponding with their ion-coupling stoichiometry, and full receptor currents can be restored when GlyTs are blocked with selective inhibitors. We show that partial inhibition of GlyT2 and modest GlyRα1 potentiation using a dual action compound, is as useful in restoring GlyR currents as a full and potent single target GlyT2 inhibitor or single target GlyRα1 PAM. The co-expression system developed in this study will provide a robust means for assessing the likely impact of GlyR PAMs and GlyT inhibitors on glycine neurotransmission.Nanomaterials have become increasingly important both in basic research and in applications [...].Environmental pressure poses a major challenge to the agricultural sector, which requires the development of cultivation techniques that can effectively reduce the impact of abiotic stress affecting crop yield and quality (e.g., thermal stress, wind, and hail) and of biotic factors, such as insect pests. The increased consumer interest in premium-quality vegetables requires the implementation of sustainable integrated pest management (IPM) strategies towards an ever-increasing insect pressure, also boosted by cultivation under protected structures. In this respect, insect nets represent an excellent, eco-friendly solution. This review aims to provide an integrative investigation of the effects of the insect screens in agriculture. Attention is dedicated to the impact on growth, yield, and quality of vegetables, focusing on the physiological and biochemical mechanisms of response to heat stress induced by insect screens. The performance of insect nets depends on many factors-foremost, on the screen mesh, with finer mesh being more effective as a barrier.
