Low bone mineral density (BMD) was recently identified as a novel risk factor for patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). In this multicenter study, we aimed to validate the role of BMD as a prognostic factor for patients with HCC undergoing transarterial chemoembolization (TACE).

This retrospective multicenter trial included 908 treatment-naïve patients with HCC who were undergoing TACE as a first-line treatment, at six tertiary care centers, between 2010 and 2020. BMD was assessed by measuring the mean Hounsfield units (HUs) in the midvertebral core of the 11

thoracic vertebra, on contrast-enhanced computer tomography performed before treatment. We assessed the influence of BMD on median overall survival (OS) and performed multivariate analysis including established estimates for survival.

The median BMD was 145 HU (IQR, 115-175 HU). Patients with a high BMD (≥ 114 HU) had a median OS of 22.2 months, while patients with a low BMD (< 114 HU) had a lower median OS of only 16.2 months (p < prognosis prediction in elderly patients with HCC undergoing TACE.Various studies have demonstrated a role for cognition on self-motion perception. Those studies all concerned modulations of the perception of a physical or visual motion stimulus. In our study, however, we investigated whether cognitive cues could elicit a percept of oscillatory self-motion in the absence of sensory motion. If so, we could use this percept to investigate if the resulting mismatch between estimated self-motion and a lack of corresponding sensory signals is motion sickening. To that end, we seated blindfolded participants on a swing that remained motionless during two conditions, apart from a deliberate perturbation at the start of each condition. The conditions only differed regarding instructions, a secondary task and a demonstration, which suggested either a quick halt ("Distraction") or continuing oscillations of the swing ("Focus"). Participants reported that the swing oscillated with larger peak-to-peak displacements and for a longer period of time in the Focus condition. That increase was not reflected in the reported motion sickness scores, which did not differ between the two conditions. As the reported motion was rather small, the lack of an effect on the motion sickness response can be explained by assuming a subthreshold neural conflict. Our results support the existence of internal models relevant to sensorimotor processing and the potential of cognitive (behavioral) therapies to alleviate undesirable perceptual issues to some extent. We conclude that oscillatory self-motion can be perceived in the absence of related sensory stimulation, which advocates for the acknowledgement of cognitive cues in studies on self-motion perception.Pectin is an important component of cell wall polysaccharides and is important for normal plant growth and development. As a major component of pectin in the primary cell wall, homogalacturonan (HG) is a long-chain macromolecular polysaccharide composed of repeated α-1,4-D-GalA sugar units. At the same time, HG is synthesized in the Golgi apparatus in the form of methyl esterification and acetylation. It is then secreted into the plasmodesmata, where it is usually demethylated by pectin methyl esterase (PME) and deacetylated by pectin acetylase (PAE). The synthesis and modification of HG are involved in polysaccharide metabolism in the cell wall, which affects the structure and function of the cell wall and plays an important role in plant growth and development. This paper mainly summarizes the recent research on the biosynthesis, modification and the roles of HG in plant cell wall.The percent of children who can achieve a normal and physiologic pulmonary venous gradient and flow following the repair of Total Anomalous Pulmonary Venous Return (TAPVR) is not known. Pulmonary venous confluence gradients from infants with supra-, infra-, or mixed TAPVR, repaired using a direct anastomotic connection were measured. Data from age, weight, and gender-matched controls established the normal pulmonary venous gradient range (0.30-0.94 mmHg). TAPVR subjects were divided into three groups (I) pulmonary venous gradient  2 × normal with monophasic flow. From 63 children following TAPVR repair and 63 matched controls, pulmonary venous gradients were significantly lower [0.5 mmHg (IQR0.4, 0.6) vs 1.6 mmHg (IQR1.0, 2.4); p  less then  0.001], and multiphasic flow more frequent (100 vs. 84.1%; p = 0.001) within the control group. There were 38 children (60.3%) in group I, 15 (23.8%) in group II, and 10 (15.8%) in group III. Children in Group I were significantly older at the time of repair, had shorter cardiopulmonary bypass times, and did not utilize deep hypothermic circulatory arrest (DHCA). Multivariate analysis confirmed that avoiding DHCA [Odds Ratio 0.931 (0.913,0.994; p = 0.002)] and shorter cardiopulmonary bypass times [Odds Ratio 0.962 (0.861,0.968; p = 0.02)] during repair were associated with the lowest pulmonary venous gradients and multiphasic flow. Following TAPVR repair with a direct anastomosis, the majority of children can achieve a gradient two times normal or less with multiphasic pulmonary venous flow.

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) represents a highly profitable biological therapy. Platelet-rich plasma is widely used to treat musculoskeletal disorders despite mixed evidence of its efficacy. As evidenced by literature from other domains, industry funding may influence the results of clinical trials. The objective of the current study was to determine the association between industry funding and positive results for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) assessing the efficacy of PRP in musculoskeletal disorders.

A search of four databases was conducted. Included studies were RCTs comparing PRP to any non-PRP comparator in adults (18years old or over) with musculoskeletal disorders and had full text available in English. Studies were excluded if they were published before 2016 or were non-human trials. A multivariate binomial logistic regression model was created to explore predictors of statistically significant findings. Covariates included the presence of industry funding, sample size, and length of study follow-up. 1440 records were screened with 87 trials included in the final analysis.

Of the 87 studies, 61 (70%) reported a statistically significant primary outcome. The presence of industry funding was not predictive of a statistically significant primary outcome [OR = 0.36, 95% CI 0.096-1.36, (n.s.)]. Studies that did not state whether industry funding was present had a higher chance of reporting a statistically significant primary outcome (OR = 3.61, 95% CI 1.1-11.9, p = 0.035). Sample size and length of follow-up were not predictive of a statistically significant primary outcome.

The results of the current study conclude that industry funding had no impact on the reporting of positive results for RCTs investigating PRP in musculoskeletal disorders. However, not disclosing sources of funding was associated with a higher likelihood of reporting positive results. The results of trials that fail to disclose funding sources should be interpreted with caution in the PRP literature.

In sports requiring multiple short bouts of high-intensity exertion, recovery while off the field is an important part of being an effective competitive athlete. This study investigated the potential of vibroacoustic stimulation to aid recovery from athletic stress.

University of Pittsburgh club and varsity athletes (n = 22) pedaled on a stationary bike strenuously, followed by a period of recovery accompanied by vibration using a wearable transducer. Subjective and physiological (skin conductance responses and cardiac measures) were used to determine the extent of recovery with frontal electroencephalographic (alpha/theta) measures indexing brain reactivity.

Vibrations rated as the most calming by each participant were associated with increased high-frequency heart-rate variability, representing parasympathetic tone, particularly in athletes most affected by pedaling. Yet, EEG markers, while related to subjective recovery, were not associated with physiological change.

This work provides support for the idea that vibration, which is subjectively rated as calming, could affect physiological recovery from physical stressors, at least for those individuals whose physiology is affected by exertion. This is likely through direct effects on physiology rather than "top down" effects on the brain.

Stripe rust, caused by Puccinia striiformis f. sp. tritici (PST), is a worldwide wheat disease that causes large losses in production. Fine mapping and cloning of resistance genes are important for accurate marker-assisted breeding. Here, we report the fine mapping and candidate gene analysis of stripe rust resistance gene YrZM175 in a Chinese wheat cultivar Zhongmai 175. Fifteen F1, 7,325 F2 plants and 117 F23 lines derived from cross Avocet S/Zhongmai 175 were inoculated with PST race CYR32 at the seedling stage in a greenhouse, and F23 lines were also evaluated for stripe rust reaction in the field using mixed PST races. Bulked segregant RNA-seq (BSR-seq) analyses revealed 13 SNPs in the region 762.50-768.52 Mb on chromosome arm 2AL. By genome mining, we identified SNPs and InDels between the parents and contrasting bulks and ma solid foundation for functional gene analysis and marker-assisted selection for improved stripe rust resistance in wheat.

Ground glass opacity featured lung adenocarcinomas (GGO-LUAD) display more indolent biological behavior than solid nodule featured lung adenocarcinomas (SN-LUAD) and have an excellent prognosis. However, the cellular immune characteristics of GGO-LUAD remain poorly understood.

Immunohistochemistry technique was performed to stain related immune markers (CD8, CD103, CD20, CD138, CD4, FOXP3, CD68, CD163, PD-1 and PD-L1) and TGF-β from 15 patients with pure GGO-LUAD and 15 patients with SN-LUAD tissue sections (Paired cohort), and then, the related markers with significant differences were verified on 10 patients (Verified cohort) with both pure GGO-LUAD and SN-LUAD. For localization analysis of CD68 + tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs) and FOXP3 + Terg cells in tumor areas, pure GGO-LUAD and SN-LUAD were also stained for simultaneous detection of pan-CK, CD68 and FOXP3 by multiplex immunofluorescence.

In the Paired cohort, compared with SN-LUAD, only the infiltration of TAMs and Treg cells was significantly lower in GGO-LUAD.
