Silicosis is a type of chronic pulmonary fibrosis caused by long-term inhalation of silica dust particles. There has been no ideal biomarker for the diagnosis and differential diagnosis of silicosis until now. Studies have found that elevated neuron-specific enolase (NSE) concentration in the serum of silicosis patients is helpful for diagnosis and severity assessment of the disease. However, the number of cases in these studies was not enough to arouse attention.

To investigate the clinical significance of serum NSE in the diagnosis and staging of silicosis.

From January 2017 to June 2019, 326 cases of silicosis confirmed in Quanzhou First Hospital Affiliated to Fujian Medical University were included in the silicosis group. A total of 328 healthy individuals or medical patients without silicosis were included in the control group. Serum NSE concentrations of all subjects were determined by electrochemical luminescence.

There were no significant differences in sex, age, smoking index and complicationrum NSE concentration may be a promising biomarker for the diagnosis and assessment of severity of silicosis.

Serum NSE concentration may be a promising biomarker for the diagnosis and assessment of severity of silicosis.

Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is related to poor cognitive function. However, the results of previous studies were inconsistent, and whether the

allele modifies the association remains unclear.

To elucidate the relationships among MetS,

, and cognitive dysfunction in an elderly population in China.

One hundred elderly patients with MetS and 102 age- and gender-matched controls were included in the study. Baseline clinical characteristics and biochemical index for glucose and lipid metabolism were obtained. The distribution of

was assessed with PCR restriction fragment length polymorphism analysis. Cognitive function was evaluated by mini-mental status examination at the 1-year follow-up examination.

Compared with controls, MetS patients had worse cognitive function and decreased ability to participate in activities of daily life (

= 0.001 and 0.046, respectively). Patients with cognitive dysfunction had higher prevalence of MetS (62.1%

36.4%,

< 0.001) and were more likely to carry the

allele (22.3%

10.1%,

= 0.019). selleck kinase inhibitor Multivariate logistic regression analyses showed that diagnosis with MetS, severe insulin resistance, status as an

carrier, higher systolic blood pressure, and larger waist circumference were risk factors for cognitive dysfunction (

< 0.05). Repeated-measures analysis of variance, performed with data collected at the 1-year follow-up, revealed continuous influences of MetS and

on the deterioration of cognitive function (time × team,

< 0.001 for both).

Diagnosis of MetS and

carrier status were persistently associated with cognitive dysfunction among an elderly population in China.

Diagnosis of MetS and ApoEε4 carrier status were persistently associated with cognitive dysfunction among an elderly population in China. The shortage of personal protective equipment and lack of proper nursing training have been endangering health care workers dealing with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). In our treatment center, the implementation of a holistic care model of time-sharing management for severe and critical COVID-19 patients has further aggravated the shortage of intensive care unit (ICU) professional nurses. Therefore, we developed a short-term specialized and targeted nursing training program to help ICU nurses to cope with stress and become more efficient, thus reducing the number of nurses required in the ICU. In order to avoid possible human-to-human spread, small teaching classes and remote training were applied. The procedural training mode included four steps preparation, plan, implementation, and evaluation. An evaluation was conducted throughout the process of nursing training. In this study, we documented and shared experiences in transitioning from traditional face-to-face programs to remote combined with proceduralization nursing training mode from our daily work experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic, which has shown to be helpful for nurses working in the ICU.

Mobile health technologies (mHealth) are efficacious along the continuum of HIV/AIDS-from prevention of HIV transmission to those at the highest risk of acquiring infection, to adherence to HIV medical care, for those living with the disease-decreasing the public health burden of the disease. HIV/AIDS is a complex condition, as certain population subgroups are disproportionately affected. Furthermore, barriers experienced at the individual level (e.g., HIV stigma) and at the systems level (i.e., access to care) contribute to these disparities. Low cost, high penetration rates and ease of use mean mHealth SMS/texting solutions hold the biggest promise for curbing the global HIV/AIDS epidemic; yet these technologies have their own challenges. Our primary objective was to assess interventions that promote adherence, which are delivered via SMS/texting, and important design and ethical considerations of these technologies. Specifically, we evaluated the underlying frameworks underpinning intervention design, st = 4) studies.

Our mixed methods review determined that privacy and confidentiality remain a concern for PLWH. Provisions to accommodate literacy, infrastructure, technology and other challenges (e.g., access to smartphones and Wifi) are important ethical considerations that guarantee equity and equitable access. Further investigation will determine the contexts within which theoretical models and frameworks remain relevant in the rapidly evolving field of digitized interventions that support adherence.
